Not my best run, but Kandros doesn’t care as long as I completed those objectives and successfully extracted. I have now soloed Platinum in Mass Effect Andromeda using every character!
Objectives: Retrieval / Boss / Boss
Gameplay notes and build: goo.gl/CBJ2Dw
Normally on Wave 1, I start off in the kitchen (upper-right of map), but this time I was testing a little nook I found to hide between the retaining wall and a rock outcropping on the far left side of the map. Enemies seemed to be confused by my position and would approach from one direction. You’ll need a fast firing weapon to take out multiple bogies that might come around the rock. Dual Kishocks were not the best choice given their small clip and slow reload time.
I did not expect this to be a successful run, seeing I got downed on the initial wave and was, by my standards, playing rather sloppily. Infiltrators, however, give players a lot of wiggle room to do silly things, given their ability to cloak and drop aggro. I tightened up my game by Wave 3 and played well enough to successfully extract.
Powers and Weapons
Activating Escape Artist with a melee kill gives you a cloak that lasts about 3-4 seconds. Add the time it took you to shoot, melee, or cast a power while cloaked and finish off the enemy with a melee, and you are looking a Tactical Cloak coming off cooldown while already cloaked. This invisible assassin build sounds great, but it’s difficult to pull off in a Platinum solo. Enemies have too much health or armor, and stunning them only gives you time for at most two to three melee strikes before they recover. Then it becomes a race to see who can kill each other faster, and you have to worry about your targets friends coming to help him out. I am sure it can be done, but it will require a lot of trial and error to kite and isolate enemies one by one.
Escape Artist does allow my shields to regenerate while cloaked, which synergized well with the Multicapacitor gear. For instance, if my shields went out and I had to cloak and run away, they would be back to near full strength by the time I found a new position.
We all know that the Kishock is one of the best weapons in the game. Since I wasn’t using additional boosters and mods to stack sniper rifle damage (besides a Sniper Rifle Amp III), I relied on Incinerate’s damage and DOT to finish off enemies. If I missed a weak point (one shot kill for mooks and Observers), one cast of Incinerate was often enough to finish them off.
This was not a Sticky Grenade build, but I did throw my two at chokepoints and the occasional Saboteur, Anointed, or Sharpshooter hiding by themselves. This in fact is the ideal scenario for the Escape Artist build. Whittle down health with Stickies and finish with melee.
Objectives
This was my first successful Platinum Solo with the double Boss objective. Thankfully I had a couple of Cobras in reserve for the second one on Wave 6. Cloak certainly helped give me the time to hide and line up charge Kishock shots to the Behemoth’s weak point.
As I was out of Revive Packs by Extraction, I just ran and hid until the shuttle arrived. And, just like that, I completed Platinum solos with every character kit in Mass Effect Andromeda!
Look for a recap post in the near future with a table detailing every run and my thoughts. Until then, please enjoy!
