I've been playing the same character for 487 hours since 2014, and have yet to beat the game. How can I just concentrate on the main quest and do some or ignore side quests and activities?

Ask your Inquisitor what they would do.
Ask them what they consider most important. What areas they think are too risky for the only person who can close rifts (they don’t know they have plot armor, after all!). What causes they feel like prioritizing.
Don’t tell them which plots advance the story.
They don’t care about that.

arvaarad has the right of it! Imagine the world really is about to end. Demons are threatening farmsteads, your soldiers have crappy equipment, you need to root out Corypheus' followers. Your heart's racing and you're running out of time. What do you do?

That is great advice from both of you. I should do like I do in Skyrim. Let the character lead the story. Thanks once again.

I would advise against eating Dragon Age Inquisition, as game discs have no nutritional value. If you have a compulsion to eat non-nutritious inanimate objects, you may have a disorder called pica. I urge you to seek professional help, as those with pica are at risk of any number of complications, such as choking, malnutrition, intestinal blockages and lead poisoning. You will end up in the hospital if you don’t deal with this problem. Think of this as your "main quest" and not a "side quest," as you put it.

With 487 hours of gameplay, I've seen enough that I know what I want to mod. The mods I use are cosmetics like HD eyes, improved face skin, Qunari Vitaar. Skyhold PJ replacer, and I also have two hair mods installed. Lastly some retextures of Sera, Cassandra, Cullen, and Josephine. I still haven't seen the rest of the game and dlc's (except for the Emporium).

In all seriousness, do you mean 487 hours spread over different playthroughs or with one character?
My advice with skipping side quests is to simply not start them. After that much time in the game, you surely have a good recollection of which side quests are interesting and which aren’t worth doing, because the task is dull or the reward is paltry/excessive.
Also, ask yourself if a side quest is really going to benefit anyone before you start it. Gathering ram meat for starving refugees has a real impact, but the same can’t be said for hunting down a bunch of bears because you found some dead guy’s letter in the woods.

Yep, that's 487 on one character since release day. I usually take 25+ hours in one place, like the Hinterlands. I do every little quest there is. Whether it's to feed refugee's, find clues about the Wardens, collect mosaic's, read every letter, codex, and landmark. Solve constellation puzzles, and walk everywhere unless there's a high powered enemy in the way. I am a completionist and like I said many times before this game is completionist hell. This is why I asked this question. I wonder how people do it. As for that example about hunting bears in the woods cause I found a dead body. What if there are more bodies to be found with loot? See these are the thoughts that run through my mind.

See these are the thoughts that run through my mind. As a completionist myself I'd like to disagree. I have 4 finished PTs so far. (and 3 started) All of them are completionists PTs. I collected all Mosaics/Shards/Bottles/Mugs/Astrariums/Dragons. All my finished PTs are around 220-250 hours. How I do it: - do the quests to get all companions - do the quests that will vanish once you get to Skyhold (Templars to the West/Apostates in Witchwood) - do the quests to get all Agents for the Inquisitions (Speaker Anais, Lord Berand, Clemence, Master Dennet, Enchanter Ellandra, Ritts, Tanner, Vale’s Irregulars, Blades of Hessarian, Belle) - get just enough Power to do In Hushed Whispers and do it - get enough Power for In Your Heart Shall Burn and do it - get my specialization and now I start going through the Zones (Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, parts of the Stormcoast, Crestwood, Western Approach, Emprise du Lion) with a comb (tho not really, I've mostly memorized the places of all the Mosaics/Shards/Bottles) - when I hit Lvl 16 I go to the Stormcoast and do the Red Water quest, being already at the Stormcoast I walk to the opening to The Descent and do the DLC. (I like to RP that my Inquisitors are at the Stormcoast, feel the trembling and go to investigate) - when I've done that I mostly do Into the Abyss and then Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts <-- in between I do some, if not most companion quests - do What Pride Had Wrought - do the Jaws of Hakkon DLC (most times I'm now at Lvl 21+) - now I do the Hissing Wastes and Forbidden Oasis <-- by this time I collected everything everywhere - do Breeding Grounds <-- I like to have this quest being the last thing I do in Emprise du Lion - do Doom Upon All the World - do the Trespasser DLC I've made a [GUIDE] Herbs | Quest Items | Requisitions 2 years ago, so I could upgrade all my Potions/Tonics/Grenades at once. If you want to make sure you did all Quests, found all Collections and Codices, here the links to the Dragon Age Wiki pages. Tipp: Do not do any Requisitions given by the Requisitions Officer. They're meant as an easy/fast way to get Power, they won't stop coming, also some items required for them stop dropping after some quests, so you'd be stuck with unfinished Requisitions in your Journal. Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. This does help a lot. It helps with knowing what's worth doing. I don't know how I racked up 487 hours, but I've only started one other character and she made it as far as the Hinterlands, I deleted her soon after to concentrate on my main. But according to Origin I have 487 hours into the game. I do spend a lot of times creating characters in the CC and taking pictures. For example I never played Dragon Age Origins with GoG Galaxy only with Steam. I recently started playing the GoG version and before I started a serious playthrough, i had racked up 20 hrs just messing around with the CC and taking pictures of them. I would start their origin up to when the first cutscene ends then close the game. In Skyrim SE I have over 200 hours played and most of it is creating characters and taking pictures at different locations. Since I played the original Skyrim, I don't feel the need to play SE at all.

Second I never fought any of the dragons in game, but I did notice that the dead bodies usually had no good loot. But what keeps me going at it is the hope that there is something worth looting.

Thank you, a couple of mods and my time made her. 2nd, there is no good armor in game if you plan to craft. Everything you craft will be better than everything you find. You don't even really have to kill dragons to get dragon gear because if you have money you can just shop the BE for the crafting goods. Some of the weapons can be good on their own, but you can also, for the most part, just craft better. the only good loot in the game are teh Accessories, or amulets, because you can't craft them. For the most part, you run into the naturally and none of them are particularly amazing, just nice to have. Only two I always want are this one: Kitty's Collar is a unique amulet Looted from Macrinus in the Griffon Wing Keep. It makes you mages and rogues auto come back to life. Saved my butt a lot of times. Ring of Doubt is a mage only ring. Looted from a corpse during the side quest Something to Prove acquired in the Exalted Plains. Makes you invisible unless you attack.

To finish the main quest and forget about the distractions called side quests, pretend that someone made a bet, pick any amount, that you can't finish the game. When done, take that pretend money and treat yourself to a just reward, whatever that might be. I'll throw in an extra bonus. If you finish the game, and post an image, in the what did I do today in DA thread, showing your Inquisitor at the end, just before the credits, I will give you a like and say excellent. If you want to eat your game, may I suggest you grill your disk, add your favorite seasoning. Hold up. Before you do that, marinade your disk to give it that rich flavor. Where was I? Oh yeah. Have your favorite side dish whatever that you might want. Another is to cut it into 4 pieces dipping them into your favorite chip dip or whatever dip. For more information, you can visit how to prepare your disk for eating dot com.

Exalted Plains that is the last known location of my Inquisitor and Co.
