Are the mages basic staff attack affect by the targets armor? I have armor pen on my staff but just wondering its its more efficent to have attack or penetration on it? I know basically the harder hitting weapons are better with attack increase and lower dmg like dagger are better with penetration but im clueless when it comes to the staff.
Thanks ahead of time!

Mages basic attacks (actually probably all their attacks) ignore armor. So, armor pen on a staff is a waste.
I think the priority for me (early on) on staves would be:
1) Life-On-Kill (super important.. so keep all your cottons for this.. don't use them for anything else) 2) Attack (or Willpower) 3) Critical Chance (once you get the hakkon staff) 4) Critical Damage (when you are close to 100% on critical chance)
Cheers!

Interesting thing is that attack upgrades give almost same damage as crit damage upgrades (+/- point or two difference). So, when you have enough crit chance stick with attack upgrades because staff grips and blades have more attack slots than crit damage slots. Of course this is the case with Hakkon's staff, other staves can benifit from crit damage upgrades.

I am wondering if wearing two +20% crit damage rings would be better in general, once you are criting non-stop. Obviously, no reason to wear them with a two-hakkon rogue (although I neither play rogues nor use two hakkon daggers). It seems like it would be more help across the board, and not much of a drop-off from wearing ability rings. What do you think? Surely you crunched these numbers before..

Yeah, attack upgrades on weapons and crit damage rings are win, win. But on the other hand, many ability rings can give bigger numbers than crit damage rings. Not much bigger, but still...

Yeah, it is hard sometimes to guage, but the two crit damage rings seems to be superior in many cases. Except things that don't crit, like secondary hits from chain lightning. But, it also makes your basic attacks stronger, I think. Any idea what the cap on crit damage % is?

things that don't crit, like secondary hits from chain lightning Exactly Well many people say that cap is at 180%, but it seems to it can go much higher. You can change dexterity with Frosty and test it. I was to lazy.

Obviously, characters that are obsessed with one attack ( like Tamar's DragonRage in particular ) it probably makes sense to keep the ability ring on. Thanks!

Mark Thanks so i am criting all the time now and knowing armor pen is a waste will help i was asking because i have 136 crit dmg on my staff (hakkon) and was doing a toss up between armor pen or atk because im using the dragon blade for the 12 crit dmg on it so the atk or pen would just be extra free dmg just didnt know which was more useful. For heals i just use a ring and a crit dmg ring/lightning chain ring ( trying to decide on those 2 as well) On a obtuse note i did get a weapon call adruits gift and even tho cunning is maxed already i love using it more then hakkon( though i wouldnt bring it to nightmare) Just 1 more 27 and pi amulet till i got the chance at the shadow 😓 May my hopes and dreams lay in ruin lol

Andruil's Gift is very cool.
It isn't bad in NM. The only issue is you are usually playing with one or two AW already, so that is alot of electric damage.

You can change dexterity with Frosty and test it. I was to lazy. tested it months ago, works easily..... like as high as u want it (u can even change the max values) another thing you can do is to change the enemy's stats as well for example there is a stat called anticipation that makes enemies predict ur attacks and stuff, so u can tweak that on enemy assassin and shield dudes (SP/MP both, since they share assets)
