A question for all those who've elfed their way thru DAI... I've played 3 world states now and am finally onto my last. The first was sensible, religious and paragon, the second was filled with protagonists who were very suspicious of magic, and the third is mages fighting for freedom. Now I'm playing the fourth which, so far, has had a dumb Warden who was so taken by Morrigan that he let her push him into doing terrible things he later regretted. He also took the rather Cerberus stance of humans first, dwarves and elves second. He threw himself at the archdemon to atone for his sins. This gave me a reason to do all the things I hadn't the heart to do before, like possess Connor, and that's the whole point of this world state. He's followed by a selfish Hawke who cared about his friends and family first, and to hell with everyone else. He just wants to get rich, drink beer with Varric in the Hanged Man and screw Isabela. So this world is full of protagonists who put themselves first, but will also do anything to achieve their objectives whether it be the blight, getting noble again, or Corypheus. I've never been Dalish in DAI so I'm thinking this is a good opportunity for that, upping the drama of a Solas romance by going all in with his opinions and being super super elfy. I want to dislike most of the crew, as I've been besties with them in my other playthroughs, and be as rude as possible. I'm also thinking the English VA for that as it's more fitting for an elf?? Any guidance from those who've done it would be great. I'm hoping to be all Andraste sucks, the shems suck, etc etc etc. Honestly it sounds like a lot of fun.

Just be aware that there aren't as many purely elf options as you might wish, although playing a very pro-Dalish elf would be appropriate if you really want to annoy Solas and Sera. The only thing is if Solas disapproves of you then the romance is never going to get off the ground as your approval has to reach a certain level for this to happen. You might actually find it more satisfying having Solas disapprove of you as you can get dialogue that you don't get if you approval level is good. So you will need to make a choice of whether you want to suck up to him at first in order to romance him and then reject him later, or simply go full on disapproval from the beginning.
My elves have tended to be diplomatic but I got the sense that even if I wanted to it was very difficult to actually criticise the Chantry faith. You can deny you are the Herald all you wish but everyone tends to ignore your objections. Cassandra does tend to disapprove of a selfish Inquisitor regardless of their faith or race.
So really it will be a case of taking the most antagonistic options you can, regardless of whether they are "elfy" or not. Be careful though in the Wicked Eyes/Wicked Hearts quest though as being too antagonistic could lead to a premature ending.

I think all these people saying "You don't get to be elfy in DAI" are exaggerating.
Just off the top of my head, there is the meeting with a Dalish mage in the Hinterlands, an elfy option when talking to some elf woman in Redcliffe, conversations with Mother Giselle, the meeting with Abelas, telling Cassandra "I have my own gods", talking to Minaeve, saying your vows in elven language when marrying Cullen and maybe a few I'm forgetting.

Who's been saying that? It's defending it that's the complaint. As for making a selfish Dalish, that's a bit tricky. You can choose more arrogant dialogue options but the Inquisitor overall is a far tamer and more polite version compared to say, the Warden. Selfish can take many forms but end up benefitting a group. Making a truly evil playthrough is hard, but a despised Inquisitor is easy.

I've lost count of how many times I've seen complaints about there not being enough Dalish dialogue. Bitch, there is. Anymore than that and the Inquisitor would be that annoying person who tries to insert the subject into any conversation.

Be careful though in the Wicked Eyes/Wicked Hearts quest though as being too antagonistic could lead to a premature ending. Oooh I didn't realise being pro-Dalish would annoy Solas. I thought it would help the romance. Just shows you how much attention I've paid to him in the past. That's good to know, I wanted to be friends with Sera too so I should be less Dalish-y I guess. Then I can have a romance that lasts into Trespasser. I want this Inky to the only one who Cass hates, I thought I might be able to criticise the Chantry to achieve that but I'm fine with just being selfish instead. Thanks so much for the advice. How would Wicked Eyes end prematurely? I think all these people saying "You don't get to be elfy in DAI" are exaggerating. Ah good! Some opportunities then. I just feel like I should maximise the elf angle to try and make this new playthrough different to my past ones. A despised Inquisitor is easy? I know it's hard to be evil, and perhaps that good and proper as you are supposed to inspiring a bunch of people. But despised is good enough, my other IQs are pretty awesome so it'll make a nice change.

Don't worry about Solas' dislike for the Dalish. As far as I remember, there is only one conversation where you clash with him over that. I've lost count of how many times I've seen complaints about there not being enough Dalish dialogue. Bitch, there is. I can't say no to such a reasonable request! Who doesn't keep a post archive for this specific occasion?

There are elf options in the dialogue but they are limited in what you can say. The OP was asking whether a Dalish would be a good choice for a selfish Inquisitor and I was pointing out that in some ways, if you want the dialogue to fit this, you would have to go with the general option rather than the elf one. With the examples you give, they would not fit the sort of Inquisitor that the OP is aiming for. The only specifically elven dialogue that seems to offend a companion (other than Sera) is when you mention slavery to Dorian in relation your background.
If you compare the options given to you in DAO (not specifically labelled elven but you can see which they are) for being aggressive and anti-human, anti-Chantry, with those in DAI it is evident that your specifically Dalish Inquisitor is not nearly as extreme as you can make a Dalish (or City Elf) Warden. This is why I was suggesting that whilst Dalish Inquisitor will give them options with respect to certain companions that you would not get as another race, not all of the specifically elven options are going to fit the type of Inquisitor they wish to play as so they would need to select the appropriate general response rather than the elven one.
To give another example, if you take the elven option for the acceptance speech for the role of Inquisitor, you will get approval from Solas and Dorian, even if disapproval from Sera. However, if you take the general option of claiming it for your own power (or words to that effect) I believe that will earn far greater disapproval from companions like Cassandra and it may even open up other dialogue options later on that you would not get with the elf one. (I suggest checking the Wiki on this).

How would Wicked Eyes end prematurely? If you get thrown out of the ball because you have offended the sensibilities of the Orlesian nobles then effectively it is game over. I've not done this personally so I don't know how bad you have to be for it to happen but since you start at a lower level of approval as an elf anyway, if you make too many faux pas it is going to be easier to reach a negative point than if you play a non-mage human noble.

Tricky. At most you can be dismissive of the Chantry and humans in general, otherwise you just get the usual aggressive/disagreeable dialogue other Inquisitors get.

(I suggest checking the Wiki on this). I've checked this myself now. To get the greatest disapproval from the maximum number of companions you need to say: ◾I'll do it for my own power. - Cassandra/Varric/Solas/Sera/Blackwall : Greatly Disapproves; Dorian : Disapproves That is -25 for Greatly Disapproves and -5 for Disapproves. Nobody approves of this choice. So it is definitely better not to take the elven option in that case. For some reason, though, it apparently increases the chances of Leliana being Divine by +5 (you'd think it would be Vivienne as she is the power hungry one but I suppose if you are taking the selfish route then you will end up with the ruthless Leliana as Divine and that definitely is not good.) Mind you saying you will do it for your own power would fit an ultra conservative Dalish because the elf option is really if you want to show that an elf can work with other people to improve your standing with them, whereas an isolationist Dalish doesn't care what the other races think so long as the "true" elves are returned to power.
