Yah, I dunno why other TV shows haven't gotten a remake. Why are they so concerned with LiS? I mean, here's the elevator pitch... "A family gets shot up into space, in a brand new rocket... And then they get lost in space." That's it. I know TJ Hooker seriously needs a remake, why always lost in space. As much as they would ever remake Hardcastle and McCormick...

I know TJ Hooker seriously needs a remake, why always lost in space. As much as they would ever remake Hardcastle and McCormick... Hardcastle has some serious hustle for a old dude. I'd legit love a Simon and Simon remake. Loved the show but wouldn't nerd rage if they messed it up. Similarly another Fall Guy show and I'm in.

Moving this to the Lobby, but it does have MEA vibes.
In the latest trailer, the Robinsons explore Voeld and Kadara by Nomad...

I was a huge fan of the original, when it first started. The first season was great - but then it fell into camp (competing with Adam West's Batman) and most of the screentime was handed to Will, Smith, and the robot. The rest of the cast were treated like cameo bit players. Yes, that's hyperbole, but I really feel the show lost a lot when it started featuring Will instead of the family as a whole.
I think I heard some hints of the original John Williams soundtrack in the first trailer.
I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I agree with all of the above, I will say that for me, the years after the 1st one were great just due to jonathan harris as dr smith. A female dr smith was surprising for the new series, i hope they do not take the part too darn seriously. Sooner or alter i guess i have to get netflix.

I only hope this version properly justifies why the Robinson family continues to keep Smith alive, rather than being simply "too nice" to throw someone who began the show by attempting to murder them out the airlock.
Even something as simple as making Smith have some expertise that's crucial to getting the Jupiter 2 home (eventually) would be enough, because why else would they have any reason to tolerate Smith's treachery on almost a daily basis?

...why else would they have any reason to tolerate Smith's treachery on almost a daily basis? This was the water cooler discussion we had at work yesterday. The device is weak - the story revolved around the inexplicable. Real life LiS - Doctor: Haha! I screwed you all again! Family <to each other>: Get a rope.

I'd personally go the route that the Jupiter spacecraft could have been something John Robinson and Dr Smith worked on together. Robinson was the guy in charge of the project, while Smith was the brains behind the spacecraft's design.
Smith eventually was fired after it was discovered they'd been co-opted by a rival company/faction/government into selling secrets, thus giving Smith motive to want to kill the Robinson family. But as the only person who really understands how the ship works, the Robinsons are forced to keep Smith around, once they all get stranded together.
That'd be my pitch for LiS, if I was the one behind this remake.

Be hard to justify, at least as far as the original series went. He was a psychologist. Though I think they retconned his goofy behavior (when the actor was given carte blanche to write his own dialogue) by saying his exposure to the ship's propulsion system messed with his mind. (He was not sealed in a cryogenic tube like the Robinson family was during liftoff).

Meh, needs more Joey and his Amazing Technicolor stop-motion helmet As many problems as I have with that movie's idiot plot, I do have a soft spot for it. Wonder if Matt LeBlanc could be convinced to do a cameo role in the new show? I know that the movie version wasn't good for his career, but it's not like it was his fault that the movie sucked, all the actors (except William Hurt) were watchable and did the best they could with the material given. But when it comes to cameos appearances from the cast of previous iterations, they have to get Bill Mumy.

Fun fact (according to Wikipedia anyway): Bill Mumy was offered a cameo in the movie but turned it down because they wouldn't let him play older Will. I'm actually with him on this one, especially given how dumb their reason for denying him was- that the audience would somehow be confused.

What a ridiculous reason for not having him play Older Will. I have no idea why they'd think audiences might be confused, since they are already asking the audience to accept a future version of Will. Did they think the audience might think this was actually the future Will from the show (mixing up alternate realities with time travel), or did they really not think audiences were stupid enough to not differentiate between movie and show, if the same actor from both was playing the role? Gah, who was the idiot who wrote and produced this thing? *Googles* Ah... Akiva Goldsman, why am I not surprised? (That being said, Jared Harris was great as Older Will. I thought he was, by far, the best thing in the entire movie)

Finished watching the series, was pleasantly surprised, after going in with some trepidation. The only three (minor) quibbles I had were; Didn't the flashback show the Resolute being torn to pieces? So how was it intact later? How did John and Don survive the Jupiter 4 explosion? Was the wrecked section they were in meant to have been the cockpit? I feel like a flashback could have helped clear this up. Why did none of the colonists give Judy hell for her monumental stupidity, choosing to sacrifice the fuel needed to get off the planet, all in order to save one man (who died anyway)? Did everyone decide to keep schtum about what actually happened, so no-one else knew how it was all her fault? (It irked me to no end that even Victor would later say " We sacrificed the fuel for nothing", when in reality, no, she sacrificed the fuel for nothing. You wanting to prioritise recovering the fuel before trying to rescue Evan, makes you the only one with any friggin' sense and thinking rationally in that situation, mate.) Other than those minor nitpicks, really enjoyed the show.

If it has Andrömeda vibes then I will pass. I'd say this is more like what Andromeda should have been. Lost in Space makes limited resources (such as fuel) and survival in a hostile environment (natural hazards and predators) actually matter! Y'know, the sort of things that Ryder and Andromeda Initiative should have had to deal with throughout MEA, rather than having those problems all magically resolved themselves off-screen by the time they reached the Nexus? Several characters in LiS have to deal with natural hazards and easily avoidable mistakes turning deadly, due to the perilous situation they're in. A cosy catastrophe (like MEA often was), this show most definitely does not present. Actually, my only real gripe with S1 is that only one colonist died on the planet, when there are several instances where they could have bumped off a few redshirts to make the situation as dire as it should have been.

I watched the pilot episode of this series and I have to say that I am not that impressed. While the premise and the general feel of the science fiction elements looked appealing, on average I was taken out of the story because of very common and trope-y plot points. First of all, the whole "Oh the atmosphere is earth-like, so we can totally remove our sealed space suits" bit had me rolling my eyes so much that I almost dislocated my optic nerves. Does the concept of foreign micro-organisms and bacteria running rampant over human immune systems, that have no defenses against alien environments, never occur for these story writers and directors? I swear, such careless antics like that are Prometheus or Alien:Covenant levels of stupid. If the next episode doesn't show all members of the Robinson family bleeding out of their eyes, or crapping out their internal organs while screaming in agony I'm going to be disappointed. Granted this is a common trope, and I know that it shouldn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but don't try and sell a realistic science fiction setting but then immediately turn around and throw common sense and logic out the window for something so basic. Speaking of realistic science fiction, the whole dilemma in the pilot: How does the extreme fluctuations of the temperature/water make any sense?
So the glacier they crash land on is flimsy enough to melt out from underneath the Jupiter 2, moments after crash landing, completely submerging the ship under 20+ feet of water, yet somehow cold enough to entirely refreeze said melt water in the span of a few seconds back into a solid block of ice. What's more, the mother mentions that the temperature is supposed to drop to -60 when the sun goes down, yet there's somehow a rainstorm? How does that make any sense?
The second big point of contention I had with the first episode, and I feel the show overall if I ever decide to watch any further, is the frankly lazy overuse of the 'family drama' trope. Do mainstream entertainment producers somehow think that a functional family unit is non-existent in our universe? You can still have a compelling story, one filled with tension and 'drama' without resorting to lowbrow concepts like hubby and wifey fighting, or rebellious kids exacerbating situations you know. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, since even Mass Effect couldn't get away from "daddy issues" as a character development concept, but seriously, are all writers that juvenile? I happen to get along swell with my parents, who are happily married after 35 years, as well as my two siblings. Am I somehow less compelling as a potential story character because I don't constantly get into arguments with my family and I actually enjoy spending time with them? The classic Lost in Space series didn't have a dysfunctional family either, and yet they were still interesting enough to watch that we have had two remakes of their show. I don't see what improvement all of this "drama" brings to the new takes on this setting personally.
