well that's nonsense. I mean I get the point if you are too busy but why are you commenting on entertainment at all if you are too busy?

Saw Endgame, no spoilers but it was good. (still kinda wished Ghost Rider was in the movie though). I personally give it a solid 8 out of 10. Anyways, so long MCU, you gave this guy 10 years of fun and exciting times with your movies. media.giphy.com/media/pBevuxpD4Tq4U/giphy.gif It's strange - but I feel no interest in anything currently announced or even hinted at, beyond maybe Guardians 3. I certainly won't be seeing Far From Home in theaters - despite liking Homecoming and enjoying this version of Peter Parker.

It seems we're not alone, either. His favourite is Cap, mine is Iron Man - but the end result is the same. And the point about the MCU having become less a series of interconnected films and more an impossibly high budget TV series is on point.

I kind of thought the point of the MCU was to be a "high budget TV show". *shrugs* either way I'm fairly invested in it and think this is one of its main strengths. That movie runner's have figured out what TV executives have that as long as you create high quality content that interconnects you can get people that will give you your money.
That being said the MCU has never been a Game of Thrones or Babylon 5. I haven't felt an overwhelming need to go see every movie, especially in the theaters. I still haven't see Captain Marvel and didn't miss out on anything in Endgame and despite all of the interconnectivity of the universe the only movies you really need to see are Ragnarok, civil war, and infinity war.
As far as the future is concerned I can't see myself giving up on the MCU. Sure I'm not going to see EVERY movie in the theater but I'm invested enough to see Dr. Strange 2, Black Widow, and maybe Guardians 3 as well as any other unannounced thor, X-Men, or potential Avengers movies. Plus on top of all that you have the marvel shows. I am very interested in a potential Hawkeye show and I know I'll probably be watching both the Loki show and Wanda/Vision since my wife is such a fan.

In other words my wife earlier today mentioned if the music from that one scene in Avengers Endgame was used in Ace Combat. Of course Ace Combat has a lot of its own epic music and I really can't think of many moments in the series where it would fit.
But then I got to thinking about Dragon Age...still got nothing but I think there would have to be something where that music could be used.

If they were brought back five years ago, though, they'd still be "gone" to them, though. Changing the past doesn't change the present remember. It would just cause another alternate timeline. The only way they could return in the main timeline would be to return them in the here and now. The formatting on your post went a little odd, were you replying to me here?
I was talking about the horrible implications of people returning to the precise location they vanished (five years later) which might have been deadly. You'd figure that people dusted in planes might have reappeared at high-altitude, those in submarines might have reappeared at the bottom of the ocean, people dusted in the street might find themselves reappearing in the middle of busy traffic... none of which would be pretty. In order for Cap to maintain the timeline, he must allow events to play out exactly as they did before. I don't think he really needs to "maintain the timeline" though. The timeline has already split off because of his presence there. It can't like...split off more; there's nothing to split from (if that makes any sense). One could argue that he should not risk changing things too much because that could lead to a worse future, but it could also lead to a much better future and Cap being the optimist that he is would probably be willing to try. Who knows, maybe between sessions of schtupping Peggy, he dismantled Hydra before it could get started again, prevented Bucky from becoming the Winter Soldier, and foiled 9/11. But the reason they had to return the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir back to their proper places in history was because if they didn't, they would radically alter the timeline. It's why they could return everyone dusted back to the precise moment they vanished, negating the five year post-Snap timeline, because those events had already become established history for the Avengers and to undo them would have created a paradox.

So now that I have had a chance to stew and gain some perspective, figure now is about as good a time as any to do a review for this movie...since it was just so good and all. Now this might be a bit of a difficult movie to review for me since I both managed to 'Force Awakens' myself (my term for when I spend more time trying to judge and analyze a movie and wait for it to get good I risk not enjoying it) and 'Casino Royaled' myself to boot (the term for when I need to go to the bathroom but refuse). As such my opinion on this movie could still fluctuate wildly, though in the end it would probably just trend upward and I already think very highly of this movie...though still not as good as Return of the King so...another thing I gotta stop doing. All this being said I did really enjoy this movie and think the world of it. It is a testement to it, for various reasons that I am realllly tempted to go out and see it again in theaters, even in Imax if its still available...and given how rarely I go out to the movies for any movie that should let you know what its ultimate rating for me. Lots of terrific action, solid character moments, and perhaps some of the best music in the series to this point. It was both visually pleasing while also being pretty well written as its run length gave the plot a chance to breathe and gave the Russos and the writing team some time to actually examine the philosophical implications that they were trying to raise... though even a three hour movie didn't really give them the opprotunity to explore these issues in the depth they probably should have. So, specifics. The good:
In general this movie does do a couple things really, really well. As I alluded to in the above segment the movie really gives the characters a good chance to breathe. Its a three hour movie and its definitley divided into at least three acts so each act is roughly an hour long which gives them time to set up proper character stakes. We actually got to see how the world changed and how it marinated. Instead of just fixing the situation within a week or a month of the snap the Russos gave the world five years in this new state. And for the most part they do a good job of showing how time has moved on and how the world has been effected, the good...and the bad. Though it does seem for part of the movie's theme of moving on its rather interesting that in many ways the entire planet seemed to be holding its breath and that it couldn't move on.
The second really great thing this movie did...Infinity War focused on Thanos...this movie focused on the Original Six. There were other heroes that survived 'the snap' and, much to my surprise, all the heroes that were snapped were brought back about 2-3rds of the way through but even then the focus always stayed on the Original Six, even if there was some loose ends that were tied up in interactions with the other heroes.
Aside from that this movie did a good job with its complications and but moments, don't know why I was expecting otherwise but I had the feeling that the Russos would give the Avengers a fairly easy path to fixing it, but in each act of the movie, and at every term, there were constant obstacles.
Rapid fire on what else I liked, specifically: The rat saving the day. Them killing Thanos easily...but then it doing nothing to change things. Black Widow trying to hold what was left of the Avengers together. The Time Heist in general/ somewhat unique take on time travel. Bruce Banners conversation with the Ancient One. Tony running into his father and getting some closure. The Heil Hydra bit (very cheeky there taking a previous controversy and turning it into a strength for the movie) Cap versus Cap 'America's ass'. Loki escapting, bit hamfisted but Tom Hiddleston pulled it off. Black Widow's death (when the movie got good). Cap lifting Thor's hammer and really putting a hurt on Thanos.
And last but not least the 'portals' scene. While the movie itself did not quite knock off LOTR for me this scene did knock off the charge of the rohirrim. Perfect music. All hope seemed lost. Thanos about to claim victory and then quite surprisingly you hear Falcon with an amazing callback, some great dialogue and just pure cinematic perfection. I cannot wait to see the Cinema Wins for this.
The final battle itself was just as well done and really a much greater improvement over the 'Battle of Wakanda' in Infinity War. I thought that in that movie the Battle of Wakanda really lost track of its characters and felt just like a random assortment of action scenes rather then having any weight or context to it (a lot like a recent battle that happened in another franchise recently). But in the battle of Avengers HQ the action did stay focused on the characters and there was a LOT of characters but there were still great moments sprinkled in...the only character that felt kind of lost in it was Thor...and more on him in a bit.
The bad:
The CGI in this movie and general effects were a bit weird at times and inconsistent. They did such a great job with Thanos this movie and last...but with Professor Hulk it was a serious case of the uncanny valley here. Also Thor's gut don't know if it was CGI or what not but man did that look bad and inconsistent.
Pretty annoyed we traded Black Widow for Gamora. I mean I had a lot more to say on this but the Russos clarified what time travel we were dealing with so...
Which brings me to Thor. On the one hand it kind of makes sense and on one hand it was an interesting angle to explore...a guy who was so convinced in his vengeance but then failed so tragically basically just giving up on life is something that could happen maybe even to Thor. And him joining the Guardians also feels like it could be interesting...
But I just can't help but feel that it under cuts the character development he's had for three movies plus bits and pieces in the Avengers. This is a man who used to be hedonistic and very leap before you look...but he grew into a leader. A funny leader perhaps but a leader, a King. And he throws that all away and chooses the path of Hedonism again which from a narrative perspective is basically the movie saying that his big lie wasn't his hedonism but him becoming a responsible Adult. That just...doesen't sit well with me. I kind of get it though because him being responsible has also gotten most of his family killed in a short amount of time so I could change my mind on this but at the end of the day this is one thing that really put a dent in the character for me, as of now.
Random musings:
So Thanos. Not a negative by any stretch of the imagination but it was interesting where he came down in the end. He proved himself a meglomanical hypocrite. Sure it could've been interesting had he had more of an intellectual bent but this was one possible outcome of his character from Infinity War.
I guess, unless the tv show changes things, Age of Ultron will be the best that Hawkeye ever is. He was fine in this movie but again didn't get a lot of screen time and was basically...kind of combat useless. I mean he outsmarted the Outriders which proves he could have been actually more active in the final battle but...wasn't...is this a Jeremy Renner thing?
Speaking of which I have to wonder if the problems with Thor is a Chris Hemsworth thing, or a Russo/ writer thing. From some of the behind the scenes things I have seen I get the feeling that Hemsworth likes having fun. This was evident in Ragnarok, as much as I like the movie, it was very different in tone and Thor was a lot more fun loving (without shirking his responsibility) then in either of the last two movies where he was more melodramatic. In Infinity War he was closer to Thor 1-2 Thor. The humor was there, a bit, but it was low key and he was far more interested in being out for revenge and being serious then he was in having fun...then in Endgame he was back to being comic relief. Which maybe the Russos et all just don't know how to write Thor being *that*.
Captain Marvel. My feelings about Brie Larson not withstanding I think I could grow to like the character. She didn't have a lot of screen time so hard to judge for sure but I didn't really object to her. Ironically perhaps the actress's arrogance while not appreciated I did rather like Captain Marvel's cockyness in the film, one of the better exchanges in the film was between her and Peter Parker in the battle. Perhaps on a purely personal note, I do like her voice. And she was used rather perfectly in the movie. Not some mary sue that came in and showed the Avengers whats what, instead she really didn't turn the tide of battle...and infact her cockyness and playing with her food got her into trouble when Thanos blasted her with the Power Stone.
Final Verdict: Tier 1.

How come Scarlett Witch stopped head zapping people? That seems like it would have been useful in the Infinity War fight with Thanos.

Final Verdict: Tier 1. I too was not a fan of Thor's character arc in End Game, and had a similar problem with Capt. America's arc as well Thor basically forsook his responsibilities to his, now decimated, people in the most flippant way, to go off and adventure with the Guardians, though I suppose running off on adventures with The Warriors Three is what Thor was doing before the first Thor movie. And he delegated that responsibility to someone who had forsaken Asgard for 1000s of years.
Capt. America does something similar with this timeline, and runs off to alternate timeline to be with the woman he loves. We don't know what he did there, and I find it difficult to belive that Steve at whatever point in the period from 50s - 00s that he ended up in would ever be living the quiet life with the world in so much turmoil. I wouldn't call this an embrace of hedonism, but I do see it as another abdication of responsibility. Though, I suppose because Steve returned, his actions are functionally similar to just retiring.
Obviously people, even super heroes, ought to be allowed to retire, or change jobs, or take their lives in a new direction; however, Steve and Thor in End Game seem to just run away. I'd have rather if both of these characters just faced reality, and accepted their responsibilities, perhaps even grown into more of a leadership role.

Err, don't know how to say this, without spoiling, but... Black Widow... Despite what happens in Endgame, a Black Widow movie is still in development. It's set to start filming this June.

Bringing everyone back at the exact moment they were dusted would not have brought them back in the present. It would have created an alternate timeline where they reappeared. Changing the past doesn't change the present, it just causes another timeline to split off.
So while yeah bringing some people back in the same spot they were dusted may prove dangerous or fata, it's also the ONLY way to let them rejoin the main timeline.

Despite what happens in Endgame, a Black Widow movie is still in development. It's set to start filming this June. So I take it that its going to be an origin movie? We honestly have no clue. Could be a prequel, maybe they could pull something miraculous and set in modern day. The point is, we're still expected to see some more Black Widow in the future.

Watch for the Black Widow flick to be the last great thing from Marvel for a long, long time...

Despite what happens in Endgame, a Black Widow movie is still in development. It's set to start filming this June. So I take it that its going to be an origin movie? Unfortunately it's the most probable. We have yet to get a superheroine movie in modern age with the current cinematographic universes.

But if that's true, then how was Cap able to exist in the main timeline as an old man, as going back to live his days in the past should have created an alternate timeline. Unless Old Cap living his life in the past always happened in the main timeline (but no-one knew about it), shouldn't Old Steve not exist in this timeline anymore?
And I know it's a minor quibble, but;
The Snap shouldn't be called the Decimation, as that only means to remove one-tenth of something.
Devastation would be a applicable name for the Snap, especially as it's etymology fittingly means "I lay waste to", which fits Thanos' actions like an Infinity Gauntlet.

They way I saw it was: Cap stayed in the past and lived his life in the alternate timeline, then once Peggy passed away that was when he went back to the original timeline to say his goodbyes and pass on the shield.

That would resolve the horrible implications I pointed out earlier, that Cap sat back and let horrible atrocities of the 20th/21st Century play out without doing anything.
If he grew old with Peggy in the alternate timeline, Cap could have been free to save Tony's parents, save Bucky, avert various wars, assassinations, natural disasters, etc... because even though his actions wouldn't change the main timeline, he could at least try to make the alternate one a better place.

Two more niggles that I forgot to include in my review: First of all while the clarification on the time traveling aspects of the plot did seal the major plot holes in the movie...for me...it did create an interesting kind of new one. Not really a plot hole just...something that would've been better.
So if we assume that everything happens in different time lines, IE Cap going back created a different timeline, it does create an...bit of a paradox. In Winter Soldier Cap goes to visit Peggy and in his exhibit it is mentioned that Peggy marries a male soldier that was a part of Steve's unit during the war...a man we never see any pictures of, as far as I can tell, and is never given a name. If this were Type A time travel then it would be obvious: This is Steve and realizing he had to be quiet to let the timeline proceed...he just lives a quiet life. The set up seems obvious. But since the writers/ directors have made it clear this is type C time travel this makes this whole plot device a bit bizarre in rhetrospect.
I talked about Hawkeye a bit but it is fascinating how this movie did do the entire cast more justice both Thor and Hawkeye just seemed to get the short end of the stick in things to do. Just...interesting.
