I know this has really been beaten to death, but I feel it needs to be reiterated. While it's wonderful that there are so many options in the game, for so many people, I don't think it's quite right that straight males have virtually two options: Josephine and Cassandra.
I, like many others, found both of these characters to be unattractive. I'm aware that this is an unpopular opinion because others actually did like them, but that isn't the issue. I'm also aware that this is really an issue of subjectivity since even the demo with the most options may very well still not be that thrilled by their options. One might say that I did get options, I just didn't like them. That's fair, but ultimately I think this leads me to the crux of my post: all of the characters available should be possible to romance.
Sera was easily the most attractive and interesting female romance option in Inquisition - aside from maybe Harding. Inevitably this lead to me making a female character, which is fine, I've played female characters before, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have preferred to play a character I could relate to more.

Seems like we've gone from beating the dead horse to trying to cut it's head off to mount on a wall as a trophy.

Sometimes you just have to admit that your personal choices did not align with the game's. It happened to me. I moved on. (Mostly)

I'm curious, what would you consider to be attractive? I'm surprised guys don't find Josephine attractive since she has classically feminine features and an elegant coif, while Cassandra has angular cheekbones a model could kill for.

Also I mean it's just totally 100% subjective. 95% of players think Dorian is absolutely gorgeous; I can barely stand to look at him (sorry, Dorian!). Blackwall gets trashed left and right, but I find him... sigh... just perfect hehehe xD
Tis all in the eye of the beholder. I mean OP says he likes Sera, who is often accused of being one of the most unattractive female characters. (p.s. I think she's super cute.) (EDIT: p.p.s. OP also says he likes Harding, and most agree with him, whereas I'm like, very "blehhhhhh" towards Harding.)

It's so gaudy that it makes Dorian's outfit look like a Monk's robe! But a change of clothes can easily win anyone put off by those cloth of gold poofy life preservers! That won't make Josephine ugly to me. I never noticed the partial open mouth though, will have to take a look sometime.

Ohhhh, I see the open mouth now. Not so bad, but I get how small things like that can drive one nuts! To this day, I want to tackle Cole and wash his hair! He looks so misshapen when he's not wearing his hat!

He looks so misshapen when he's not wearing his hat! Arghgh yes, Cole's another one! Not only is his hair all greasy, but his skin looks funky, and his profile.....!! THE BOY HAS NO CHIN. I mean when I read the book I was envisioning this cute-ish young man, yes, VERY DIRTY, and the unkempt hair I can accept, but he literally looks like a corpse, and slightly inbred one at that lol (Cole ISN'T a corpse; he's a spirit who manifested a physical body; no reason he should look like death warmed over, AND no reason he should be fucking chinless!! I think they literally tried to make him unattractive. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. However, they failed to make me stop loving that boy )

One might say that I did get options, I just didn't like them. That's fair, but ultimately I think this leads me to the crux of my post: all of the characters available should be possible to romance. I wasn't crazy about my options either (Josephine and Sera), and didn't romance either of them. Yeah, it was annoying, but I'm used to it by now. What can you do? I did two playthroughs with no romance, then did something extremely unlikely for me and romanced Cullen, and to my surprise, really enjoyed it. Maybe you'll find one you originally didn't think you'd like, but would? For what it's worth, I also have the unpopular opinion that all the options should be available to everyone. More happy people that way, fewer disappointed ones. I don't care if it's "unrealistic" to have that many bi people in a group. Fiction is practically built on implausibility. And there are dragons and things. And for all we know, maybe it wouldn't be odd to find 4 bisexuals in a group in Thedas. And it's not like that means they couldn't tell stories with straight/gay people, they just wouldn't be romance options. It has downsides, but I think the upsides are worth it. I'm curious, what would you consider to be attractive? I'm surprised guys don't find Josephine attractive since she has classically feminine features and an elegant coif, while Cassandra has angular cheekbones a model could kill for. Josephine bugs me for two reasons: her hideous outfit and the way her mouth stays partially open all the time Same I can't decide if the mouth thing or the outfit bugs me more. Looks are definitely subjective though. I don't find Sera even remotely attractive. Josephine, like her character, doesn't particularly evoke any reaction, positive or negative, from me I think she looked better in her concept art/tarot card. Vivienne isn't my style at all. Harding's receding hairline does her no favours I think Cass looks the best out of the ladies in Inquisition. And who doesn't like a few scars?

However, they failed to make me stop loving that boy ) Cole (Compassion) looks exactly how he's supposed to: He looks like Cole, the mage who starved to death. That's why he looks "like a corpse" who hasn't washed his hair and has raggedy clothes. As for why he never changes his look, he says it himself: Dorian: Is this how you want to look?Cole: I want to help. Looking doesn't matter.

Fine, right, pretty sure this wasn't even aimed at me. But I'll just say this anyway. You remember trailer Ryder? Where she wakes up? Yes. She's beautiful. I said it. You know you don't have the courage to tell me otherwise.

I agree that the straight male romance options were not good because of the severe lack of variety, even though the number of vstraight male romance option has remained constant since Origins at 2.
In Origins and II, both straight male romance options were very different. They had very different ideas, different faith, different inherent abilities (one love interest is a mage and the other is a Muggle in Origins and II) and in II, they were of different races. Leliana and Morrigan were both very different women. The same could be said of Isabel and Merrill. Furthermore straight female romance options have remained very diverse since Origins until Inquisition. The only ones with the highest amount of options is a bisexual Elven female and well, there is a very good reason Dalish Elves are known as wild Dalish Elves.
Contrast this with Josephine and Cassandra. Both are nobles, both are devout Andrastians, both come from notable families, both want to be wine & dined, both are Muggles, etc. They are too similar and the differences between them are mostly physical and on-the-surface type of behavior - Cassandra is older, more blunt, will go to the third base a lot faster (without being ambiguous about it) and has a better body than Josephine (Cassandra's a warrior and Josephine's a diplomat after all) but Josephine is younger, more ladylike and more accommodating towards Elves (Cassandra treats and views Elven culture and religion as nonsense, which can be observed when you bring her to the Temple of Mythal whereas Josephine actually goes out of her way to make an Elven protagonist feel comfortable).

Welcome to the "Straight Femsheps who didn't like Kaidan in Mass Effect 1" Club. Yes well, nice guys are seen by women as boring these days, only good for being the spare tire / fallback plan when the bad boy eventually dumps her for another lay so naturally this sentiment should be expected. I played male Shepard and found Kaidan to be a quite nice introverted man. Apart from his migraines, there is nothing wrong with him.

Welcome to the "Straight Femsheps who didn't like Kaidan in Mass Effect 1" Club. No offense meant to Kaidan, I respect the guy, but he was so passive that I started to wonder if Bioware was afraid to give a more self-assertive guy as a romance.
