So, I just recently watched the TV series Black Sails, and fell in love with everything about it. After finishing the show, I got a craving to play a good pirate game. I started thinking about some games, and searching around for the best pirate related stuff I could find. To no surprise, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag was amoung the best of top pirate games available. That's when it hit me. It would nice to have a pirate game along the lines of Black Sails, and who better to make something as advanced as needed for a game like this than Bioware. The basic idea of it. You start as a nobody, from a crew of a vessel that a pirate captain boards with his crew, to capture as their prize. You get taken as a hostage to help as a new crew member of the pirate captain. From there, you build trust with your fellow pirates through whatever means necessary, working your way up the ladder. Your first big accomplishment is trying to become the quarter master. Then, eventually captain, if you decide to start a mutiny once your captain screws up one too many times. Thus leading you to making a name for yourself and changing history along the way. It could follow some history to be able to meet the different pirates of the era, and make alliances/enemies as the story progresses. Having choices of loyalty or deceit to meet your needs/play style. I think it would be perfect for Bioware since they're so amazing at their story related ideas, having to make decisions that could change everything for good or bad results, shaping the future of pirating in the end game. Though maybe make it open ended where, depending on your choices, pirating continues to grow and you become a revered pirate or you become a shipping merchant instead. Just an idea, thanks for reading! Let me know what you think.
P.s. if you love pirate related stuff, check out the Black Sails TV series, its one of my all time favs now. Oh, and it's has quite a bit of violenece and nudity. I'm sure most of you won't mind, but just a warning for those that might.

No obvious multiplayer opportunities so I doubt modern Bioware would be interested.

Try Pillars of Eternity 2, may not be exactly what you are looking for but it has got the piratical theme and it is a damn lot better than anything Bioware has put out in recent years or will put out anytime soon.

Thanks for letting me know. I've been looking at that one wondering if it was good. I'll have to give it a shot.

No obvious multiplayer opportunities so I doubt modern Bioware would be interested. There's tons of multiplayer ideas that could be added to this a type of game. Look at Skull & Bones or Sea of Thieves. They would just have to come up with a way to implement multiplayer options.

You had me at pirates! Well, Black Sails actually, of which I watched the whole series. I don't know that it's only Bioware that could make this game. There's this obscure, little known SP RPG company that goes by CDPR that might be able to do it justice. Then there's Guerilla Games, Naughty Dog, and why not? Bethesda. I personally think Naughty Dog is the best match for Black Sails. They make the most cinematic, character-driven SP games and Black Sails was nothing if not cinematic and character driven. Unless you mean all the Showtime cable frontal nudity could only be done by Bioware ... but then again, little old CDPR has that "covered" as well.

No obvious multiplayer opportunities so I doubt modern Bioware would be interested. Sarcasm fail, since a pirate RPG could easily have an MP mode, like ME3MP. Several modes/missions, even: Capture the flag, where the flag is either in a chase or treasure on a treasure map. Escort mission. Cutting-out mission. Boarding mission -- a close quarters form of capture the flag. Sail racing mission. Rush mission -- ground-based, pirates have to land and successively capture #1 the beach/docks, #2 the village, #3 the governor's mansion, and #4 the fort, with a time limit. The defenders win if the pirates can't capture all four objectives in the time limit.

Well, definitely not the only ones that could do it, but I was thinking about the choices and character development of ME1-ME3 mostly, Bethesda was definitely another thought that came to mind. The others sound like good choices as well. Loved everything about Horizon Zero Dawn, so I could see Guerilla Games tackling it very well. I just miss the character/choice driven experiences of the older Mass Effects and think it would be nice for it to flow in the way those games did. Also, gg with the multiplayer ideas, that's mostly what I was thinking about similarities to ME3 if not it's own online driven world.

You can't have a pirate game with MP and NOT have that.

But how about we add a straight up free-for-all MP mode? Two teams, two ships, whoever strikes or sinks first is the loser.

I actually hope DA5 will be a pirate game. I want to take charge of a captured Qunari dreadnaught and mess with the Felissima Armada.

Because they are cancer to everything they touch for one. Oh nice, I've heard about Bethesda haters, but only second-hand. Never got a chance to talk to one. So what flipped the hate bit for you? Fallout 76? Fallout 4? FONV? Trying to monetize mods? Women in Wolfenstein? ... SKYRIM!!??

Oblivion itself had placed me on a very wary footing because of its smaller size then Morrowind, seeing that trend continue did them no favors, by the time of Fallout 4 and Skyrim, my fears had been realized and yeah... Hate is a bit strong though, I just think they are a horrid developer to anything they touch.

I'm not going to give you a hard time, since you were kind enough to answer my question of true curiosity. I'll just point out that if "cancer" now means something milder than hate, my internet hierarchy of hyperbole needs adjustment.
