I love playing as a guy, too; I like playing a guy more than a girl! (Though I will play a girl very rarely. And in non-romance games I always pick a girl b/c I love playing a girl in an action game just tearing shit up and being a total boss bitch.) But personally I find the m/f and f/m romances boring. I think it is just the DA writers' tendency to write very traditional romances, like romance novel level romances. I can't get into them and always, ALWAYS abandon those playthroughs. But the f/f and m/m romances tend to be more interesting and break tradition more. I squee about them way more. So just as an example, a guy (Alistair) giving a woman a rose. Oh geez, fucking gag me with a spoon lol! However, a guy giving another guy a rose, or a woman giving a woman a rose? D'awwww!I actually like that sort of traditional romance aspect, so I find it disappointing that Bioware tends to do it in the m/f romances more than the same-sex ones And as progressive as Bioware is, a good way to improve would be to have more "traditional" same-sex romances without angst rather than often making them deviant. Call me cheesy or boring if you want, but I'm a sucker for romantic things like Alistair's rose or Cullen's lucky coin or other sweet stuff and I'd love to see that in a female pairing. DAI had that with Josephine, since she can be romanced by a female Inquisitor.

Solas! I've romanced Cullen, Iron Bull and Blackwall. My last play through I romanced Solas and there is no going back after being fade tongued by the egg

Solas is my canon. I do like Cullen a bit more(mainly because it is a happier one) but for story reasons Solas is just so much better.

DA2: Hawke is lonely. DA:I: Forever alone. But I love Cullen's romance even if it's not my canon, and I will probably end up trying Alistair next time I play DA:O. The bolded part, yeah, I would've liked to see that too in a ss romance. Josie's nearly had that, but Inky ends up saying, "Perhaps I should've written a poem or bring flowers." Umm why can't you show that instead of just telling her? I also like the idea of having traditional romance stuff in ss, because not every ss romance has to be bittersweet, star crossed and angsty. It's something to consider in a future DA and/or ME game.

I actually like that sort of traditional romance aspect, so I find it disappointing that Bioware tends to do it in the m/f romances more than the same-sex ones And as progressive as Bioware is, a good way to improve would be to have more "traditional" same-sex romances without angst rather than often making them deviant. Call me cheesy or boring if you want, but I'm a sucker for romantic things like Alistair's rose or Cullen's lucky coin or other sweet stuff and I'd love to see that in a female pairing. DAI had that with Josephine, since she can be romanced by a female Inquisitor. And that is a step in the right direction, definitely. I did say that they did it more with m/f ones, not only in them. Too bad I don't like Josephine more I don't dislike her, either, for the record. I actually like that sort of traditional romance aspect, so I find it disappointing that Bioware tends to do it in the m/f romances more than the same-sex ones And as progressive as Bioware is, a good way to improve would be to have more "traditional" same-sex romances without angst rather than often making them deviant. Aw, really? Meanwhile, you actually read adorkably bad love poetry to Cassandra, so I hear. I agree. 200%! I hope they considered this and other things for ME:A/DA4 when it comes to giving the romances variety compared to what we've seen before. It should be especially un-angsty in the ME setting, as well. Hmm, on this topic, do you (and the other people in the thread) have any preference for whether the NPC or the protagonist is the one doing the poetry-reading/flower-presenting/gift-giving? (Optionally, for the protagonist, probably.) Personally, I'd love to see my Inquisitor give Cullen flowers or something similar. It doesn't have to always be the guy. And I'd also like to see a woman give another woman a flower, obviously, or a guy give a guy one. "Mix things up a little."

And to all who love their traditional m/f or f/m romance, that's totally fine! We like what we like! xD

I do, actually! If I'm playing a girl, I want to be the one who takes the initiative and does the gift-giving to my lady. And if I'm the guy, then I want to be the one who is coddled and loved on by his man lol I think this is because in both those scenarios I'm thwarting traditional gender roles. It's just really fun and satisfying to play an aggressive gal or a sweetie guy. Though I've been happy with both. I love Zev giving me the earring, and I love giving Fenris his book and teaching him to read

I like to have it both ways, give and take. For example, since my canon is Cullen, after bringing lady Inky to the lake and giving his lucky coin, she would've done something special for him too. Like forge a new sword and shield for him.

I would still love it if they continued traditional m/f stuff, so that people like me can enjoy it... Although, it'd have to be more another Disney princess though (I'd personally love to romance someone like Jasmine or Mulan this time around!) or even Rapunzel, lol.

I'm not one for the "canon" playthrough, since they're all just playthroughs to me; so I instead simply voted by my favorite romance plot.
There isn't a badly written one that I've seen (even if I find Bull's creepy and weird), but I think Solas's plot is the best. The shock, the feels, the great voice acting, the huge payoff in Trespasser-- none of the other plots stand a chance, no matter how well done. Those two VAs killed it, and the lore involved is incredible. This plot is deep. Very well done.

Well, my canon was a Lavellan who romanced Cullen, but I've done every romance except for Cass and Dorian. Just don't have it in me to play a male character. I get enough of that in other games.
