Bioware has made contradicting statements about how loot works, and the statements are causing a lot of arguments over on Reddit. The main contention is whether all loot, particularly weapons, can be dropped from any enemy, no matter how small the chance, or whether specific loot (again, with emphasis on weapons) will drop from specific enemies. There are many statements in support of the "global" case, referring to a discussion in the official Bioware Discord (which unfortunately I do not have a transcript of -- anyone?) where a dev claimed "there are no enemy specific loot tables." "it has been confirmed that there is no loot tables." "They have flat out confirmed there is no loot tables. I even argued for a while with the devs and others in the official discord about this because I agree.. everything being world drop status is just bad. Sure no one wants to run a boss 100000 times for 1 piece of gear but not being able to chase anything just sucks." But then there are contradictory statements in the dev stream and in gaming articles about Anthem: Video linkQ: Do bosses drop unique loot, like if I hit a Stronghold and killed one of those giant gorilla looking things, do I get, I dunno, a crazy quad barreled shotgun? A (Ben Irving): I think we've kind of addressed this, but generally the answer is, by playing the game, there are loot tables (note the plural), and the higher the content and play gives you higher chances of rarity amongst the loot tables, and those loot tables are kind of ... if you are playing a Ranger, you're more likely to get Ranger gear. Article Link"...Some loot is drop-specific from certain enemies, while others are earned by completing certain questlines."
So what is the truth?

likely your class has a specific loot table tied to it for specific gear drops, is what it seems like they are saying in the 2nd one.

1) There's no loot specific to one activity or enemy in the game. It's just that challenging content will be more likely to drop higher rarity gear.
2) Each Javelin has certain weapons and gear that is specifically tailored to them (ex. Colossus can't use pistols, but can use heavy weapons like Grenade Launchers)
3) While out in the world, your loot drops are skewed to drop gear for the class you're currently playing, but there's still a chance you'll periodically get gear for your other javelins
4) No matter what kind of loot drops in the world, it is always instanced for each individual player; meaning its for you and only you.

That Gamespot article sounds like how they were describing the vinyls in the game and not the gear you will equip for damage and such, so both are right they are just describing two different things.

This is my theory as well. Consider crafting materials, which are also loot. You’d expect grabbit ears to only drop from grabbits.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

They are copying. And then tweaking. But the idea is not theirs, so they really don't know what they're doing and are making it up as the go along. (The above is my opinion; that it's probably true is just a coincidence)
