Those textures are a bit worrysome, you would think that since they're playing on the PC the fidelity would be higher.

Those textures are a bit worrysome, you would think that since they're playing on the PC the fidelity would be higher. Maybe. Depends on whether they thought the Stockholm influencers and press would care more about performance and fps or eye candy. Also depends on how close that alpha build was to day-to-day development build. I imagine that when you are fixing a crasher bug, if loading the 1K textures takes 1/16 of the time to load 4K textures, guess which size will be the default size for the build? Since you have to load and crash the game over and over again until it's fixed.

Idk, seems a bit stale. Same ole telephone pole NPCs that just....stand there engaged in the same animations. The vibe looks like NPCs are just waiting for you to talk to them vs NPCs moving about the map engaging in their own daily routines like many other RPGs that are open world or have populated hub areas.
I just dont look at Fort Tarsis and see a lively and vibrant place. Just same same type of NPC standing in one place areas that we got since KOTOR almost 15 years ago. I guess I just expect more....

That was really bad. I was expecting animations on the level of the E3 2017 video, but instead it's just mannequins staring directly into your soul. They shouldn't have gone for first-person if they couldn't do it properly.

Fort Tarsis looks a lot emptier than the original E3 trailer, which isn't surprising since if they had kept that density of NPCs it would've been a pain to just walk around, running into people left and right. Then again, I suppose more NPCs can show up as the fort evolves over time. The NPCs that are present seem awfully static, though. It kind of gives the impression that the fort is occupied but not lived-in. This has been an issue with Bioware for years. Static NPCs. Too few NPCs. There is no such thing as too crowded in a videogame imo. Assassin's Creed is doing just fine! And after Witcher 3 and especially RDR2 now, half deserted hubs with unmoving NPCs are disappointing. Especially for a looter shooter with segmented small hub spaces. If we can have open cities with hundreds of people now in a vast RPGs, populating a closed off space shouldn't be a problem for consoles anymore.
Still not impressed. Maybe I'm just too burned from Andromeda, but it all looks too similar still for me. Maybe it's the Frostbite effect...
The dialogue felt a bit off. Too stiff. Some odd VA choices. That said, the game is bound to have better written dialogue. What little we've seen of it doesn't stand out but at least it's not instant cringe yet.
Overall the game LOOKS totally fine. I like the art style of Fort Tarsis and the character models are decent enough. Not great but ok. Gameplay/combat is actually what really puts me off and gives me the most MEA vibes in a bad way. Static bullet sponge enemies are not my thing.
Don't mean to be a hater. Just bored at work. I still browse new Anthem stuff once in a while to see if my interest might get piqued but still nope. I'm sure it will be a decent looter shooter. I might try the demo to get confirmation that it's really not for me but it's probably going to be the first Bioware game I skip.

I've been hoping the Fort Tarsis stuff would convince me to buy Anthem, but I'm even more on the fence now. The dialogue choices seem so limited/pointless, and the NPCs shown are just bland.

They shouldn't have gone for first-person if they couldn't do it properly. The only thing shown in the video are dialogue close-up view (aka Silver quality conversation). What was shown in the E3 2017 video was a mocapped cutscene (aka Gold quality conversation), that's still in Anthem, just not used for tertiary interactions.

They shouldn't have gone for first-person if they couldn't do it properly. Well, no surprise that the NPC (Praxley?) from that video is not in the game. Same as the couple of weapons shown in the video if we trust the datamining. No stampeding animals as well. At least the graphic fidelity seems the same although with much less foliage, dust, detail, etc. The E3 2017 video was just a vertical slice and much of it was expected to be better looking than the released product. I am mostly dissapointed that the world had a much more alien feel in 2017 compared to now. But I guess that is due to the aforementioned less environment details that are too taxing for current hardware. And I will have to eat my hat if Shaper storms look even close to what was shown in 2017.

This is definitely not the core of the game, more of an extra for BioWare fans and something that will distinguish the game a bit compared to Destiny or The Division. But it cannot be directly compared to their previous games, where these interactions were arguably of primary importance.

No stampeding animals as well. The stamped I caused to a group of not-too-aggressive fauna in the alpha shouldn't have happened? Were they the same big bull/rhino types? And did they casually stampede around the areas and reacted to dangers from the environment just like in the E3 video? I am yet to see the same creatures from the couple of stampedes shown in 2017 and any similar stampede behavior. It could be in the game, but the recent videos don't show it anywhere. I guessed it's one of the things that got cut or severely toned down due to hardware limitations.

I guessed it's one of the things that got cut or severely toned down due to hardware limitations. They were the huge rhino-like creatures. About 4-5 of them hanging in a large shallow pond of water. They all run away in pack from me when I started to shoot at the nearest while still being relatively far from them (I had to sprint to actually kill it). The people doing these videos are more interested in showing combat and loot than "not aggressive" fauna behavior unless it's murder-at-first-sight. It's the same reasons why nobody spend 5 minutes following a fennec in DAI pre-release videos.

Those textures are a bit worrysome, you would think that since they're playing on the PC the fidelity would be higher. It's a capture. Video compression will always make textures look like crap. Especially if the bitrate needs to be toned down to a level appropriate for streaming video. I have the same complaint, but there may be practical reasons for having interactable NCPs be static. You wouldn't want to have to search all over Fort Tarsis for an NPC every time you want to talk to them. They could leash those NPCs to a small-ish area, though, where it makes sense (e.g. have Zoe walking around the Forge area, but not go anywhere else). However, that might also present issues with framing during dialogues.

Those blurry textures cannot be caused by video compression, especially since there are some crisp environmental textures right behind her. I assume you're referring to her shirt, since that's the only texture on her visible enough to judge. It absolutely can be caused by video compression. The level of compression also depends on what was in motion in the video when that snapshot was taken (this is actually a huge factor). Of course the issue could be with the source, but I learned long ago never to judge game textures based on video captures (unless I'm looking at a lossless capture, or a high bitrate capture of a static, non-moving subject).

Keep in mind that those are IGN materials; that month of Anthem promo they do now didn't just materialize after 2 days of work - they probably worked on it for some time and were allowed to capture materials from earlier builds, some of which I know had a bug that AFAIK prevented better textures from loading. And if that doesn't satisfy you - there was a BW stream from 1,5 month ago that had technical issues, but they managed to feature parts of the same conversation with this particular character and textures were fine there (and that was earlier build as well).

I have to say I care more if the characters are interesting or not...as opposed to graphic fidelity. I liked the Commander Vohl (spelling?) character...totally gonna be working with the dude based on that little interaction.

With the "Crimson Lancer" on Ft Tarsis Radio, it seems like they took a beat from "The Silver Shroud" in Fallout 4. If we get a mission that has anything like that, I'm here for it.

I'm pretty sure as far back as the Xbox 360 there was a feature for listening to custom soundtracks and in GTA4 you could add them to the radio stations ... but that might be failing memory.
