Yeah what the hell is OP talking about, the reddit sub is a giant hugbox where Anthem is going to be a 1000/10 revolutionary game that brings about instantaneous world peace and the end of poverty and hunger, and any concerns contrary to that are downvoted into oblivion. They fanboi harder than any other Anthem discussion area. I almost considered making a /r/AnthemForRealists or something just to have level headed discussion.

Well, OP didn't say anything about people hating on Anthem on Reddit. They said those on the Reddit were discriminating against those who were about the story elements of the game and downvoting those with concerns about the more narrative aspects. OP felt that people wanting a good story were being pushed aside and ridiculed by those purely interested in maximizing combat efficiency and discussing best weapons/loadouts. OP is specifically looking for people to discuss story and who aren't hardcore about just the "pew pew" elements.

OP should post some examples.

There are plenty of good people. And there are plenty of shit lords. I understand being cautious over the purchase of a game but the outrage doesn't make sense. The next Dragon Age will have a robust multiplayer. The next Mass Effect will as well, doesn't matter what galaxy it's in. They can have a strong single player, but just like Red Dead 2, it will still have multiplayer. Admit it, you can see battle Royale with batarians and salarians.
They can't return to the BioWare of old anyway. And I know EA is evil, but we probably wouldn't be here discussing Anthem and their future games had EA not purchased them over a decade ago.
I'll be getting Anthem for Xbox and maybe PS4 after six months or so.

I don't get it, are you agreeing with me or what because what I see there are posts downvoted for suggesting that there might be anything not 10/10 about Anthem Im trying to show that any topic that even shows or hints at the slightest possibility of criticism or pessimistic views towards Anthem/EA/Bioware are generally downvoted. As a result, what you see at the top of reddit represents the more optimistic views of Anthem/EA/Bioware.

I understand it as wanting an Anthem Safe Space and the reddit sub is absolutely that (in my opinion).

To be clear this has mostly come out of the Anthem subreddit. But it is important since that is where many new fans are likely to go to if they're interested in this game. The behavior I've seen there has been extremely disappointing to say the least. People who have any serious concerns, particularly when it comes to bioware staples like story and characters, are being ridiculed and told off constantly. Like how dare they want to enjoy the game in a way that's different then the typical shooter crowd. Anything that doesn't involved how to kill shit better in the game is treated as crap and a waste of time. And the mods only seem to be encouraging this behavior as they are quick to censor and remove threads that doesn't follow their fanboi hive mind. They are actively pushing away and abusing new potential fans just because they aren't part of the new hardcore shooter dude-bro mentality that's become so pervasive there. I really want to love this game, but the people I've met make that extremely hard. Seriously I'm desperate here. I just want to be a part of a fan base that makes this game worth playing. I want to be a member of a decent community of people who are at least nice to each other. So many people like me are on the fence, ready to put down hard earned money on a pre-order, and just need a little positive push in the right direction. So why is even this much so difficult for this fan base? Just quoting the OP again so everyone can see it without having to scroll/page back.
It sounds to me like he wants to chill on the BSN instead of Reddit.

Ah I see the confusion now, I'm not sure what is meant by "good people" in the OP and people agreeing with it. I understand it as wanting an Anthem Safe Space and the reddit sub is absolutely that (in my opinion). That's .... definitely not what I'm looking for. On the contrary it's super important to have a place where you can discuss your concerns and problems seriously and honestly without being ridiculed and chased off simply because you didn't share in the idealized circlejerk. Honestly this is incredibly vital to making a game better. There are many problems that can blow up down the road if devs are not paying careful attention to people who are expressing serious problems they encounter with a game experience. Actually I don't really consider that subreddit an Anthem Safe Space because that would imply that you're safe to express your alternate opinions without being harassed. When even the mods harass posters and lock down threads that aren't "SUPER POSITIVE". The posts that were linked above are just a fraction of posts that I've seen of people being downvoted like mad, threads often locked and removed for the dumbest reasons, and just general abuse against naysayers going on there that I've witnessed many times before. I suppose I didn't explain enough what I mean by "good people" in that sense, but it's kinda hard to quantify in detail since it can be greatly influenced by personal expectations. If I were to add more explanation to it I'd say I'm looking for people who are more respectful of others, more open to actual decent discussion, and more welcoming of people who are not all going to be the same and want the same things, even if that means talking about possible failures the game. It sounds to me like he wants to chill on the BSN instead of Reddit.
Yeah, that's fair, and all things considered probably damn good advice.

There is no downvoting here and I think you will find many folks that are just as concerned as you about story and characters here.
I kind of fall into the camp of excited for Anthem, cautiously optimistic, and also accepting that I am not getting a Mass Effect or Dragon Age style of game this time. My very favorite aspect of Bioware games just is not going to be present here and I have had to come to terms with that.
That said, I am hopeful that Bioware can bring something unique to this sub genre and deliver a quality gaming experience. I want them to succeed. Rather than stay bogged down lamenting the elements of the game I am not going to see, I think I would prefer to just share in the excitement for a new style of game and hope for the best.
I'm hardly the baseline for judging Bioware fans, or gaming fans in general. My favorite game of all time is Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect: Andromeda share a top place in my ranking of Mass Effect games. Dragon Age and Mass Effect are my two favorite game series of all time and it isn't like I just recently discovered Bioware. I grew up playing their games. I played Baldur's Gate when it was a brand new pc gaming sensation.

I didn't read the threads super carefully, but apart from being downvoted I'm not sure I see evidence of derision. Most of the participants were respectful and shared the concerns of the OP. There was a bit of snark, but nothing worse than you'd see around here.
caios , there are trolls everywhere, here being no exception, but in general this is a fairly welcoming place full of SP-oriented people where you can express your concerns without getting too much flak. See the Anthem Skepticism thread for more. If anything the Hype Thread gets more ridicule than the skepticism thread. One thing you might want to do is change the title of this thread. By saying "where are the good people" you are implying the other people are bad, which can lead to antagonism and -- in this case -- confusion as some people aren't sure which side you mean is "bad." Maybe something along the lines of "Can we discuss my reservations about Anthem here?"

Yeah, that's fair, and all things considered probably damn good advice. Well BSN is a much more even handed place to talk about BioWare games. We have fanboys, but we also have haters, and all points in between that spectrum. What you're looking for is mature people, I think. Reddit's focused subs tend not to have those, because the voting system necessarily encourages groupthink and isolationism, and the focused subs start with positivity towards their target which only ever intensifies. There are notable counterexamples when something is too bad to be ignored, like say Destiny 2's various missteps or how awful Arrow got in season 4. But essentially the prevailing wisdom on those subs becomes a pretty immature viewpoint of "Mommy is wonderful and perfect and anyone who says Mommy did something wrong is a Bad Man."

On the contrary it's super important to have a place where you can discuss your concerns and problems seriously and honestly without being ridiculed and chased off simply because you didn't share in the idealized circlejerk. I'm going to try to put this as gently as possible: Perhaps the ridicule might have more to do with the presentation of the idea/demand, and the attitude conveyed in word choice and tone, and not so much the idea itself? I get that you were burned by unfair handling by the mods, but if that burn came across in what you posted, people in the sub might not appreciate it, no matter what merit your idea/demand may have. I'm not denying the circlejerk part of it. I had several replies downvoted because I had the termerity to mention, not even compare, but just mention, the word "Destiny." There are some zealots who feel compelled to search the sub for that word and auto-downvote the post, no matter what it says. So that shit definitely happens, but what happens far more is people being deaf to counter-arguments and/or being insulting and dismissive, and the mods are very quick to shut that kind of shit down. For better or worse -- I personally think the mods are a bit too quick to hit the censor button, but that's just me. I agree, but I'm dubious of any post that justifies its strident tone on that basis. All too often, this "pay attention to serious problems" justification is just a thinly veiled attempt to get one over, to demand something for completely selfish reasons, dressed up as the greater good. Like the whole "Anthem will fail without PvP" nonsense.

I thought the subreddit was okay until this thread today . Yikes. Are you referring to the topic or the response? The response was relatively mild. The threads where a bunch of posts are deleted by a mod are the more yikes ones to me. Here's an example: ww.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/aa5chq/what_about_a_1v1_practice_arena_pvp_first_to_5_or/Which reminds me, something I meant to mention is that I read all the downvoted replies. Trying to counter the circlejerk a bit. If you mean the OP, meh. Pretty low effort. Come in, shit on the game, end with a "maybe you prove me wrong." I don't even read those threads. It's just pot stirring.
