Finished up gear challenges on my Ranger, so that's 30/30 done for Ranger, Colossus and Storm. Time to start those 10 Interceptor challenges. And making good progress on the Champion challenge at 70%

Today a new version of this map was released anthem.tmkfrench.fr/indexen.html - used it to search some very hard to find caches Also made a melee ranger build, dunno if they stack but I get 235% and 215% melee from 2 skills when used for 10 seconds, melees give me 40% shields back every hit... wow the enemies went down fast on GM2. Have to explore this more, maybe enable more electricity

Decided to get out of my comfort zone today and play a different Javelin. Jumped straight into GM1 freeplay with the Interceptor and managed not to die...with common items in some slots no less. It doesn't seem to require much skill...lots of flailing and button mashing to kill enemies to rejuvenate health faster than enemies can drain...I hope it becomes less pure chaos as I understand the powers better. I did enjoy having a reason to use my legendary machine pistol which definitely helped me not die with a less than optimal build for the difficulty. All in all it was fun and did enough to upgrade the common gear to epic. Yeah, I've been trying out the Interceptor as well yesterday and today. At first it felt off but it has quicly grown on me. Especially the spark dash thing. The really funny part for me is that after 6 hours yesterday and today my Interceptor has a higher rating than my Storm with 110 hours...though I was pretty lucky pulling 3 legendary items for the "flailing kid." You're right though, it's grown on me. I think between Cariff's Talon restoring 50% health on enemy kill and Way of the Bold restoring 50% armor defeating enemies in melee (not entirely clear how health and armor are different) I might be about unkillable.

From what I understand armor is health so anything that restores armor is restoring health and the health packs you pickup restores armor/health

It's been a while. So.. today in anthem, a couple topics: The red wire (Is this an expression in english?) throughout the post is how I'm getting annoyed by the lack of legendaries, specifically, how I'm not getting the only 2 gear for my storm legendary which I really want (black ice and pondering infinity). 1) I did a bunch of runs with my storm, and I'm really growing on my current alternate build: Ice storm, arcing burst and divine vengeance. Mostly it's shield stripping, melee-ing and divine vengeancing through shields, but I like it on GM2. 2) Because I haven't seen any legendaries in a week or so (wtf?) on gm2, I decided to try GM3, a legendary contract. My lord, the health bloat. I mean, damage from enemies is okay, I guess, it's doable. But the damage you ened to do to get a kill around here... jezus. This just proves that you need a full legendary build just do be mildly efficient at gm3. In any case. I did the run just fine, but no legendaries, so I figured it's not worth the effort. 3) The playerbase dropoff. It's noticable. And I mean, HARD. I tried doing a second GM3 mission, and I ended up starting alone! WTF? I cancelled the mission Also, later on I did legendary contracts and strongholds, and half the time we didn't start with 4 people! Granted, it did fill up after a couple minutes, but still, what a difference to earlier! Just as I was actually kinda sold on the concept of the party in anthem, it's bleeding away from me I hope it doesn't reduce further too much... I mean can solo gm2, but still... 4) I decided to say fuck it to searching for the right legendaries with my storm - at least until they increase the drop rates -, bit the bullet, and tried out another javelin for the first time since official launch. The ranger. And I enjoyed it a lot! I really had to get used to not having my floaty storm though. The movement is totally different. BUT i really liked the vanguard style of the ranger. Low on shields? attack (melee). Low on armor? attack (combo). I'm running ranier's blaze, seeking missile (MW), and sticky grenade (non MW), and it's been really fun! It IS weird to me that I don't have an option anymore for large groups of fodder (which were basically fresh grinder meat for my storm), and that I have to pick off enemies one by one, but the trade-off is friggin'huge combo damage. Like, wtf. Also, I felt pretty proud that I could survive with a new javelin on GM2 (ok, in large part due to my friendly neighbourhood freelancers... but still ). I think I'll stick with ranger for a while. It's a whole new world. Signing out! Hope I'll get a chance to play the stronghold tonight, and if not, definitely tomorrow! Can't wait to smash faces with my police baton! Also very curious for the patch notes (not so much the stream, as we'll be able to play it before the content before the stream )!!

But the rng gods know when you want something and deliberately taunt you with everything else first 😂.

Oh, what gear piece are you using to do that... Vanguards badge. Yes thank you! Sorry I didnt have time to launch Anthem again yesterday or this morning to check it I'm very bad in remembering anything "named"... I feel this completely changes my Ranger gameplay now, I get so fast kills and get to hold shields up, but cant go rampaging like that alone with a bigger horde.

I might be about unkillable. Yes, the 'keep hitting things' Interceptor build is quite attractive.

You get a certain amount of AOE with the grenades but sticky grenade is more of a single target thing. I like the seeker grenades if I'm worried about groups. They all shoot off in multiple directions and then explode where they hit so they can go quite wide and, big plus for me, you don't have to be good at aiming
I was saying in my last post how I recently switched to a more melee-centric approach for my ranger. It is pretty cool!

Yes I was thinking of going with seeking missile and sticky grenade, but the sticky masterwork doesn't freeze (prime) enemies. So now i'm thinking seeker + frost grenade. As a bonus, sweet sweet melee bonus damage! I have a MW melee component that - as an inscription - adds more melee damage than the component itself

Scrapped the junk loot but got stuck loading into Ft Tarsis. On another note todays two Legendary missions got me one legendary each time. Legendary mission really lived up to it's name today.

Did a 5 minute Freeplay on GM3 just before I thought(!) the servers were going down (8:00am ET) and snagged a Legendary component, so I got the hell out of there so my reward would save.
Then the servers didn't go down, so I started doing Contracts. Looks like not many people are doing regular contracts anymore.

I tried it on GM1 but I had no idea how to do the puzzles. I was just randomly pressing buttons and getting stuck on the wrong level, crashing into ceilings trying to get back up. Needless-to-say it was a bit frustrating in places No doubt I'll get the hang of it, eventually By the way there's some new dialogue from Sev in the bar. Someone to chat to again, yay

That new stronghold is like a combative puzzle box. Very well designed. Praise is forbidden when It comes to Anthem.

By the way there's some new dialogue from Sev in the bar. Someone to chat to again, yay Matthias loves to lead me on that he's got something to say to me, until I get there and he changes his mind. So rude.

Ha so finally Sev wants to talk to me. So I like the new stronghold very much. The Unfathomed went down pretty fast on GM1 though. It won't be as time efficient in leggo farming as HoR. Speaking of leggo farming. I did aquick freeplay session this morning to finish up level 1 gear challenges for the storm. Got notified of a strider in distress and something about a titan. Made it there in time to open the door. As a token of thanks that other fereelancer who did all the work left me some nice loot...yup to side of the strider was a leggo drop. Easy, piecy, lemon squeazy. It turned out to be a legendary version of one that I already had a masterwork but who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth eh?

Trying to solo the Sunken Cell. There are reasons why this may actually be impossible for all but one Javelin.

Today in Anthem: A rollercoaster ride of emotions. I need to get some things off my chest. So buckle in. I have no plan in my head as I start to write this, I’m going to let my feelings guide me.
So. The new patch/update hit. I really don’t know where to start, but I’ll try with some good stuff so that is out of the way:
- The stronghold is very pretty. The setting is quite the masterpiece and level designers should be proud of themselves. This is akin to previous parts of anthem. Rightful honors are due.
- Holy shit restarting another missions from the end screen. Finally. And selecting missions without collecting them. Very good optimization.
- Some of the rebalances were necessary (like ponder infinity), and some of the others were nice, I guess.
- The
- A couple more bug fixes, which is always good.
- A couple new universal components. Yay? I guess? Who tf even uses this.
Uh oh. Negativity already seeping in? Yes. Here we go.
1) More bugs introduced.
a. Literally: the. first. The first. the FIRST. THE. FIRST. THING I notice as I start up the game is that my ranger (which has nowhere near legendary stuff equipped) has a rating look as if he’s legendary. How can you not notice this? Do you not playtest? Come on. This just screams unprofessionalism the moment anyone opens up the game. I know, may seem like an overreaction at this point as it means nothing in practice, but it’s bad press from the get-go.
b. Salvaging. It’s way slower again. Like before. Re-introducing old bugs again? How afraid do we have to be every time you patch that you break a previous patch? What will break next time? Do we need to start a pool before each patch to gamble on what breaks this time? Also, you taketh away what you have giveth before. It feels like back with the the temporary loot rain.
2) What did we want from the new stronghold? Outlaws. What did we not want. More annoying dominion. What did you give us? Yes. Dominion.
a. I understand that in the concept, the dominion is supposed to be there, but still… it was a let down for me. And dominion is the most annoying faction regarding enemies with their electric resistant shields (ok fine, I’ll use the underbalanced guns…), and their constant elemental attacks, and their higher health than others.
b. Let’s not forget the intermittent water-tubes-of-complete-disorientation-and-nauseation you have to fly through.
c. Bioware, I understand that you wish to uplift the lootshoot crowd with the puzzles. But really. Know your audience. For the general lootshoot crowd, a bioware puzzle is over their head. Teamwork to achieve a puzzle? Even more so. I wish to tell you about the gruesome experience I had. This was the second time I ran the stronghold.
i. The first room. Yeah. Great fucking gameplay design to have a defense objective in the middle of a circular room with legendary health bloat turrets all around and nowhere to hide. I spent so much time scraping together javelin remains I felt like a janitor.
ii. Puzzle 1. STOP JUMPING ON MY PUZZLE STUMPS IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING.
iii. The puzzle with the cataclysm. Since one person alone can’t finish closing the tubes in time before they regenerate, I had to spend 10 minutes in that fucking room running circles closing tubes before my teammates figured out they’re not supposed to shoot the dur hur elementals but just press the damn tubes.
iv. The puzzle with the turning circles. Who’s fucking idea was it to create infinite spawns of freezing enemies close to a platform where you have to stand still? I want to bitchslap him over the internet. We spent 15 minutes here because my teammates could not grasp the concept and would not defend me as I DID try to get the puzzle.
v. Oh yay. Another fucking room you’re dumped in the middle of with turrets all around you. How novel. Scrape scrape scrape.
vi. Oh, the final chest? Yeah, safe point right? WRONG!! Let’s spawn a gigantic mob as you open the chest when you least suspect it which turns you to swiss cheese in 0.01 seconds once you open it up without any chance of defending yourself.
vii. And why not an arbitrary and useless echo collecting room, where you have to fly around, only to be hit with instant overheating out of nowhere, which makes it impossible to control your dive towards an electrified water pool which shreds your final sliver of health.
As a redeeming factor, the third (and last time I will be doing this stronghold if I can help it) I did use my storm and had a slightly more competent team, so the experience was less harrowing. But still. This dungeon felt like it was designed to promote teamwork, and punish inordinately hard those that don’t.
d. Also, why are the chests so damn far in? I mean, you get one after the first room in temple of the scar, 2 rooms at most in the other dungeons. Here it takes ages before you get a chest. The first run I even figured it was a bug and the chests had not spawned. BALANCE, gawddamnit. Also, this dungeon takes way longer (see next point) than the other dungeons, so maybe add 3 chests?
e. This brings me to the boss fight. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO LEARN YOU THIS LESSON OLD MAN!!? Do you not learn from your mistakes? Do you do this on purpose to spite us? Or – worst of all – do you actually think it is fun?
The goddamn damage sink. You had this feedback already on the monitor. Why do you incorporate another needless damage sink? As long as the rest of the dungeon lasted, the boss fight alone lasted longer than that. And it wasn’t my teammates this time, they were okay-ish, because I had this on all 3 runs. So much needless health bloat. F*ck you for doing this again. Seriously.
And the thing is, the fight doesn’t change. He does 2 attacks over and over again. One attack you can simply stand behind a pillar, the others is a near undodgeable homing attack which stuns you and leaves you to frustratingly chew your controller because the stun hit you ever so slightly and constant drain takes all your health away. Yes, by the third time I had learned to dodge it, but that only made it worse as the whole fight became dodge, dodge, shoot for 0,01% damage, dodge dodge, shoot for 0,01% damage and repeat.
3) You did not change anything about your core problem. As a matter of fact, you dismissed it (or so I heard).
I did not watch the live stream, nor do I intend to, but I read the gist of it. Apparently the chat was toxic, which is a difficult place to live stream in; I’ll grant them that. But instead of even acknowledging it and doing mea culpa, they just dismissed it and referred to an offsite, unofficial forum where they at one time gave us a half arsed explanation? No! NO! Seriously. I haven’t even seen a legendary drop on grandmaster 2 in over one and a half weeks. I even have trouble making masterworks drop ffs.
I understand that if you want to work the system out, you need time to fix it. But in the fucking meantime, if you don’t want to bleed out fucking players by the time you’re fucking done doing your fucking rework, just fucking make the loot fucking rain! How could it even hurt the game? I don’t understand. You’re afraid players will have nothing to grind for? Well guess what geniuses, you already have a dead playerbase doing nothing! This is not about me wanting everything now. It isn’t it’s about reward. I’ve been playing a week and a half and got nothing (besides gameplay fun, of course) to show for it.
It was EXTREMELY disappointing that, after basically a month of radio silence, they did nothing, NOTHING, NO. THING. about their core issue. Not even communicate with us about their approach, plan, or how far they are.
4) After a month of radio silence, I expected a HUGE bug fix list. It was, frankly, disappointing. They didn’t even fix the health bar bug. How difficult can it be? How difficult did you make it yourself to be? I’m honestly underwhelmed after a month of the bug fix list.
Also, honestly? The forge being able to be accessed anywhere is actually useless. It does not fit with the lore. It makes no logical sense. But mostly, it serves no purpose. First of all, have the balls to stick with the vision you had, and defend it. In all my hours of play, I have not once had a situation where I though: “hmm, wish I had 2 other skills now which I can select through the slow-ish menu in the middle of combat”. No. What I HAVE thought is: “Man, wish I could use more skills on the fly here!”, so I have more than 2 skills available in combat. No one is going to change skills in the middle of a battle for a particular enemy and afterwards switch right back, you ninkempoops. Too much of a hassle. We want readily available profiles, like maybe mass effect Andromeda, that’d work. I’m not navigating a slow menu while a titan is stomping me into the ground. The only place I see this working is freeplay, as you spend a longer time sometimes there, and you want some variation once in a while.
The rebalances. There’s a couple of ‘m, but guns are still useless on GM2+. The storm is still underpowered tissue paper compared to other characters. Gear is still all over the place. Fully resistant electric dominion shields are still a thing (this is personal, but absolutely god awful in my book), … After a month? Djeezus Christ people.
5) The boohoo blog.
This is it. This is the one that put me over the edge, and spiraling towards this whole rant. Ben & Chad happily announce that they failed their promises, and as a solution intend to make no more promises. What. In the actual. Jesus-loving. Bull excrement. Fuck.
I know they’re writing this blog as to defend how hard they’ve been working in the past few months. Sure, I’ll believe that. I’ll also believe that the Schreier article did not create a positive, productive working environment.
But trying to boohoo us by saying how hard development is (which you know in advance), how difficult it’s been (we all knew that and empathise), how much of optimistic fools you’ve been (no news there), and using these personal shortcomings as an excuse for not meeting your earlier promises? And acknowledging that the greatest mistake you made was promising things, and trying to rectify that by eliminating your only redeeming factor you had over these 2 months: your openness in communication?
That broke me. Something broke deep inside. The light that deep down still burned for Bioware as a company has gone out. I loved you since dragon age orginins and mass effect 1. I played DAO in French (because of circumstances), a language I am NOT good at, only understood half of it, but loved the game. Mass effect was a crowning achievement. ME2 I played through 17 times. I stood by the ME3 ending, it was a great game. I loved DA2, despite the criticisms. I was okay with DAI: the characters were still there, I only ended up playing it twice, but still… I defended. I stood by MEA as it was torn down, as something was still holding it together. Something bioware. I even bought a lot of lootboxes out of naivety that it’d somehow help bioware. I stood by anthem, as I believed it would turn out okay in the end. But now I say: No more. No longer. It is finished. Done. My faith in bioware, my fidelity, my loyalty, it is… gone. I will no longer hope for anthem to be okay. I will not hope for dragon age 4 to be good. I will no longer care about the future of bioware.
Don’t get me wrong, I will still play Anthem because I enjoy it in the state it is now, it still does many good things and checks a lot of personal enjoyment boxes. But I will no longer have any personal investment anymore in the company previously known as Bioware.
