Good morning everyone. I noticed something strange when I opened GeForce Experience (both with the Demos and now the full game)....My PC is well-above even the recommended specifications, and I played even the Demo with everything set to ULTRA as was the Default setting but I experienced no issues or anything that caused me to want to try to lower the settings.....But this morning I opened Experience and it told me that my Optimal Settings should all be set to a combination of Medium and/or Low.
My PC configuration is as follows:
CPU: Intel 6850K six cores at 3.6 Ghz
DDR 4: 32 GB G.SKILL @ 2400 Mhz
GPU: 8GB GTX 1080 FTW2 with/ ICX
Bootable Drive: 512MB Samsung 950 EVO M.2 with NVME
Secondary SSD: 1TB Crucial MX 300
Cooler: Corsair H80i v.2 AIO
Motherboard: X-99 based Gigabyte Phoenix SLI
PSU: EVGA 850 P2
Monitor: 27" S27D850T Samsung 60hz Monitor (2560x1440, 1,000:1 Native CR/Mega Dynamic CR, 4ms RT)
Case: CoolerMaster H500M Midtower
Why if my PC is clearly well above even the Recommended Requirements would G. Experience tell me to set most everything to LOW or Medium for an "Optimal Experience" ? To me, with those settings that would be okay if my computer was below the recommended specs, I can understand that. But above them? What gives?
Now I know from most other games I play like DAI and Andromeda that I can set things to their highest settings and have a visually great, virtually problem free experience.
Is anyone running a newer 8700K setup with other hardware specs comparable to mine?....I would be interested in hearing what Experience is telling users with newer rigs than mine what they should have their settings at to play this game.
Many Thanks

I have a 2080. I’ll have to check. Even with my 2060 in the alpha it was fine

I never trust GFE. It usually gives lower settings than what your PC can handle.
I have 8086k CPU and will check what it recommends when I get home.
It could be that GFE tries to give settings for big frame rates or to avoid some sort of bottleneck it believes to happen.

I've long since stopped trusting GeForce Experience when it comes to fine tuning a game's settings. It will almost always tell me to set everything to Low/Medium, what makes sense considering their ultimate aim is to sell you newer and more expensive graphic cards.

Hey, Cowboy. Thanks for your reply. Oh, my system ran the game fantastically. Unless I turned V-sync OFF (in which case I did get some slight yet noticeable screen tearing due to my monitor not keeping up with the GPU rendering rate)...I had no complaints of any kind if I kept V-sync ON and set everything to the Default of Ultra. Ran great, looked even better.
I'm just curious about the details of Geforce Experience....Why it says I have to set everything to Low or Medium, when clearly my rig is well above even what is recommended. Shouldn't Experience recognize that and be able to apply higher more appropriate settings itself?
Thanks again. Would be interested in hearing what it says about your 2080.

Thanks for your input.

What you say makes sense as well... strange that this would happen to anyone with a moderate to high-end rig that is built anywhere within the last 3 to 5 years with careful consideration. But perhaps you and others are right....don't trust GFE to set the graphics, go with your own gut feeling and what you know works.
Hope you have a great day/evening. See you out in the world next week!

Just checked what GFE suggests and it's to lower half the settings from Ultra to High, lol. I run the game with 70-90 FPS and it wants me to lower stuff? It could be trying to reach the 144 FPS my monitor can show but even at High settings it will get to about 120 tops.
I have GPU 1080Ti, CPU 8086k, 32GB DDR4 3000 mhz RAM, SSD (the last one seems to help the most since I don't have to wait minutes for stuff to load. I hear people even have loading for the Forge, which is instant for me ).

Hi EB! I ignore GFE settings for every game, because they set them ridiculously low. I played the demos at 2560 x 1080 with an FX-8320 OC'd to 4.1, 16gb RAM, and a GTX1080 FTW on ultra, and it ran OK, but Anthem used 50-70% of the CPU. I've since upgraded to a Ryzen 2700x, same graphics card, and faster RAM, and GFE is telling me to run some things, like terrain and vegetation, on medium. I'm not going to.
I could get a few more fps if I set everything lower than full ultra, but I'm not going to for general play. Maybe if I was doing Strongholds on a high difficulty, I'd lower a couple of settings, but otherwise, eh.

Hm... Really? the default game settings is ULTRA?
(1) go to the GENERAL section within the GeForce Experience to see what it thinks your gaming specs are and match them to Bio's specs
(2)Select the Optimize icon to initiate the optimization process, or try the Games section and select Automatically Optimize Newly Added Games.
nVidia has a cloud data center with thousands of PC configurations to find the optimal balance of graphical eye candy and system performance that is close to your hardware configuration. Don't expect it to be 100% correct.
Frankly the graphics card is the main workhorse. If it gets too hot the software/drivers may throttle it down to avoid burning the components. ....

I remember using Geforce Experience once to "optimize" my games and it was all total bullshit. In some games the settings were changed to something much lower even though they were running very well the max settings and in some other game it upped the settings when I had reduced some details for better fps. So I would not give a damn about it. Just put everything on Ultra, see how that works and if you fps are too low try lowering some stuff, the most demanding stuff first.

Yes the Default graphics setting for ANTHEM on PC was ULTRA (this was even confirmed by Ben Irving during his most recent live stream with Chad Robertson when they reviewed the Settings). Whatever it was set at in the Demos I left it at, I never changed anything.
I am well aware of how GeForce Experience works in terms of Cloud-based Optimization, and I have tried what you suggested even on a game like DAI and Andromeda, but still it puts my Settings well below what my system is actually capable of. I have been running those games with everything on Ultra and have had no issues as long as I keep the V-sync turned ON, which I don't mind doing considering that my monitor is only 60hz rather than 144 or 165 hz (which I would need to negate screen tearing with vsync OFF). But I am okay with this trade off.
Thanks for your post.

Uh ..... Huh huh uh huh....
Weird. My GFE (not girlfriend experience lol) has been the opposite of all of you.
I have a Strix 970. GFE tells me to ultra everything. I had to turn down a setting or two for TW3 from the GFE recommendations, as I noticed some minor jinkiness.
Not defending NVDA, they aren't my favorite company right now. Just that my experience with GFE has mostly been positive.

GFE had set most everything to medium for me, and I have a decent desktop.
GTX 1070, i5 7600k, 16 gig ram. I reset it to default settings and it runs pretty smoothly on high/ultra.

"Girlfriend Experience"....I want one! LOL. Seriously though, other than the weird game settings issue....I like GFE, it's good for keeping the drivers up to date etc rather than having to do it manually every few months, so yes, largely very positive other than this one curious issue that is really a non-issue because I know what my rig can handle. Games like DAI and Andromeda are all set to ULTRA and I still manage anywhere from 75 to 105 FPS if my Vsnyc is OFF.....The trade off is though that I do notice minimal screen tearing especially when I move the mouse from left to right to rotate the camera angle. But if I keep it on to match my monitor's refresh rate than I hit that sweet spot of 60 FPS with no hiccups. So I'm okay with that trade off for now, until I can buy a faster monitor.....Though I do like my S27D850T from Samsung quite a lot, so unless it dies on me I won't be changing.
That's funny though.....the "Girlfriend Experience"....never heard that one before, har har.
Thanks for your post. Maybe I'll see you out in the world sometime.

Well, I used to watch that show on HBO, "Cathouse". That's where I learned it. I swear! Why are you looking at me like that? Edit: to be fair, I am driving a 22" 1050p monitor, so my card has less work to do than many of yours. I wasn't saying you are wrong, more that my experience is different likely due to old hardware if I'm being honest

"Why are you looking at me like that?"
I'm teasing! I think what you said was funny....never heard of that show "cathouse", but "Shiny" (gee, I wonder where that expression came from....)
Thanks again though.

Well, I used to watch that show on HBO, "Cathouse". That's where I learned it. I swear! Why are you looking at me like that? Sure, sure... I believe you. LOL.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

I'm ignoring the GFE recommended settings. It wants to put me at 4k with low settings. I'm playing in 2k with a mix of high/ultra settings with v-sync on. Pretty rock solid performance wise.
Using an Acer 28" 4k monitor with rest of system in sig.
