There are two things that really stands out about Anthem that should be reason enough for most people to check out the game eventually. Even if you only like single player games and not a big online person, still recommend eventually picking up the game with a friend for this experience. 1. BioWare has created one of the most beautiful open worlds ever. The Bastion (open world area; obviously there will be more if you know the story and lore) is so insanely detail and just a wonder to fly around, fight, discover ruins and caves, and pick up random artifacts, notes, etc. It’s is bioware’s best work in terms aesthetics. 2. BioWare has truly made each class feel unique. Something that I never quite felt playing all three classes in Destiny. Playing as the colossus actually feels like a tank that can stand toe to toe with an Ursix. The storm truly feels like a powerful mage who deals damage from afar but can also strike down out of nowhere with a powerful magic melee. The interceptor is so insanely quick, agile, and deadly (with the classic mass effect charge!). And the Ranger feels like a standard soldier with a good mid range combat options. That being said, I hope they continue to expand upon the open world to continue building on the depth of content and systemic events. I hope they also continue to make each class feel more unique with new abilities, ultimates, and melees Agreed. Those are among the best aspects of Anthem.
The only thing the world is lacking a little is interactive stuff. Would be cool if we could also find say and NPC with a quest or something but I guess that's a concession to the coop gameplay or something (not a necessary one IMO but still).
But one of the absolute best things about this open world IMO is that we are allowed to really explore it ourselves. Yes, the map is alcking functionality like waypoints but it has the great advantage of not having 2000 question marks. Finally we get to really find things ourselves again, be it notes, landmarks, dungeons, chests or just cool places. I love to just fly around and stumble on things without having a frigging minimap or compass jammed full of symbols. Very well done BioWare! Way better than in Inquisition and Andromeda. Keep that for the next Dragon Age/Mass Effect game please!
Bolded for truth. The map icons in Andromeda were somewhat overwhelming. It helped on my 2nd playthrough that I refused to talk to the people who wanted to give me "Scan 48 things on 5 different planets" quests and I also avoided the "show me all the hidden caches" perk. Otherwise the sheer number of things on the map was exhaustion inducing. I felt the same for the few hours I played TW3.
Finding those glowing glyphs, chests and bits of paper with lore on them while out wandering in Anthem is very satisfying. Checking off icons on a map: not so much.
I also really like the resonant noise those glyphs make. I wish echoes made a louder and more pleasant sound than *squish* when you pick them up. It would be fun if they each had a note associated with them so you'd get a chord playing if you were flying with 3 tailing you.

While I somewhat have to agree at first glance that both points are valid-ish, I still think they are far beneath what should be expected from Bioware.
The open world is indeed Bioware's greatest and very best looking. But it is just one world, with one city and the rest are landscapes that can hardly be told apart. Everywhere on the map looks and feels the same. It is eye-candy rich, but it lacks variety. I would personally take the varied landscapes from flat deserts to cold mountains of Inquisition and Andromeda over the single world of Anthem anyday. Maybe because I value variety over eye-candy. Well, perhaps that is just me.
As for the 4 classes feeling unique, that is the bare minimum to be expected from a game that is heavily focused on ability spamming. Destiny on the other hand focus a great deal on gunplay, therefore it offers a ton of gun variety. Anthem lacks gun variety but compensates that somehow with 4 unique classes whose abilities are greatly different from one another. Overall, there is nothing special about it to be honest. Bioware has already created a game that features not 4, but 17 classes/characters that feel completely unique and different from one another, having unique looks, gameplay, particular roles and several build possibilities for each one of them. That game was Inquisition's Multiplayer.
In all honesty, whoever thinks that there is anything praiseworthy about Anthem having 4 unique classes or one single pretty looking world have to up their standards.

Well, perhaps that is just me. As far as Inquisition is concerned, I can get behind you. The variety and general visual quality of the maps was great.
But in Andromeda, I felt like we just went from one desert to the next. Oh sure, two (!) were sand, the next one was ice and on was a gray asteroid but they were all just deserts nonetheless. Hell, even Kadara looked like a desert with green textures on it. The only real exceptions were the starting planet (which wasn't really that open) and Havarl but otherwise, I take Anthems smaller scale with beautiful and imaginative vertical design over 4 deserts anyday.

I did liked Eos and Elladeen(i enjoy desertic landscapes) but Anthem definitely is prettier.

Then again: afterwards we're always the clever ones. This game needs more juice added to keep playing.

On the xbox1x my load times are minimal. Just my personal experience. I wonder if there is a major difference from console levels

Here are the load times post patch so people can see (not made by me). The problem will still come up though if someone in your team has a standard hdd. Even if you have a ssd you will still have to wait (load times).

Even if you have a ssd you will still have to wait (load times). Very interesting video. Even though they are post-patch and therefore at their shortest, those particular loading screens (to load the game and the freeplay area) still feel pretty long (and I guess they feel even longer when one is not playing, but rather watching the video). Also, the HDD vs SSD information you mentioned is crucial. In this game, the whole team starts the mission together. So if you have a SSD but you're playing with a friend who uses a HDD, you will have to wait for them. Therefore the "buy a SSD" argument which has been flying around does fully not apply if your friends don't have SSDs.

Indeed. My demo was on an SSD and boyfriend's was on an HDD and I had to wait about 30 seconds more for him to join the game.
So unless you play solo you're stuck waiting one way or another anyway because of that stupid tethering.
