DA4 will provide the opportunity to give me a first character, the same way Anthem does... if you call that a character.
Anyway, Combat Mage is my preference with some of Sandal's abilities

people seem to forget that anthem is not an RPG.

As an update to my initial plans I have decided it could be fun, based on my 'rules' for the gender I play in RPGs that my first character will either be Oliver/ Olivia.

I doubt it, but if they let me be evil, I will do all kind of messed up things.
in a more realistic approach, if the game really catches my eye and with they trend approach of limiting alligments (by every new game) you can put on your characters I will probably end up with a Sir Gawain character.
that are my plans from the moment.

Chances are high I'll choose female mage but everything else depends a lot on the CC.

Back when DAI was being billed as human-only, I had vague ideas about a female human mage (having just finished playing a male human mage in DA2). Then race selection was announced and I was 10000000% certain I'd play a female dwarf DW rogue. My favorite Inquisitor turned out to be a female qunari mage, so I don't put a lot of stock in what I think I want to play versus what I'll actually end up playing... That said, I do have vague ideas about a female character, either a qunari warrior or dwarf rogue/warrior, assuming the game offers more than just human backgrounds. It would be interesting to play a Tal-Vashoth or pit fighting slave or Seheron native, or an Ambassadoria dwarf with ancient ties to Tevinter (shades of Aeducan in there!). I think playing as a human noble in Tevinter could be interesting, given the magocracy. With all the Solas stuff going on, I think I'll keep my elves in Origins. But honestly, we don't know enough about the game for me to decide specifics. I usually do that as I play the game and get a feel for the kind of character I'm allowed to play. Voice acting plays a big part in that, as does race, background information, romance options, what kind of allegiances we can make.... I usually play characters somewhere on the Neutral or Chaotic spectrum, though. 👀 And I'll start with a loose character concept, like "studious grumpy loner" or "bratty half-pint" or "regal practical warrior-princess".

Male rogue (bow) elf = qunari > human > dwarf Depends on the setting, race selection and origins, of course

I typically make dwarven male warriors but on a first run I will probably go with human. I can see where running as an elf would be interesting since we are going up against Solas

I never know who will end up being my favorite. For Origins, it took almost a dozen runs before I tried Dwarf noble and fell in love with my rebellious Aeducan princess. In Inquisition, it turned out to be my Dorian-loving sword and board guy, even though I normally prefer my female characters and their LIs. I still love archer game play in all DA games, in various ways, but I can never guess which character will click for me. The first run, however, is always my fail run. I rush too much and react without enough reflection, which generally gets people (and sometimes entire races) killed. I'm look at you, Tali.
