There is a strange predilection for Bioware character artists to create androgynous and fairly ugly females. It's been happening for three games now. Meanwhile the men are glorious, lol. I think it really is a thing. Not sure what the art director tells the team to pull this off.

It's not looked down upon (by sane, regular people) if it fits the character to have a revealing costume, and that there are other (female) characters that offer another perspective to.. outfit design. Besides, I love sexy impractical outfits, but it's always the female characters and PC that get those options, and male characters can't be obnoxiously sexy and seductive and objectified. Where is the equality? When both genders are treated equally in terms of '' objectification '' there is barely any reason to criticize said '' objectification. '' This is the future liberals want v Iron bull and his pecks wasn’t revealing? Iron Bull's droopy mantitties were certainly out in the open, what about it though?

Well, now that I saw the OP's profile, I have serious worries about him. The guy doesn't talk about anything that isn't about hot women in videogames
Either he's a troll here to bait or worse, a lonely virgin obsessed for videogame's women because nobody wants him. Either way I feel sorry for him.

'' I love sexy impractical outfits, but it's always the female characters and PC that get those options, and male characters can't be obnoxiously sexy and seductive and objectified. '' I didn't say much about JUST revealing costumes when making this point, but sexy impracticality, and male characters being objectified as much as women, when the intention of the character design is to be boisterous with their sexuality, when it comes to appearance especially, even if it doesn't necessarily otherwise fit the character. Iron Bull having his chest out, while it can be perceived as sexy, was most likely not included to make the character show off sex and eroticism, but the culture he comes from and his physical prowess, as well as fit the trope of a '' simplistic '' barbarian ready for a good fight and the taste of blood. I'd say the same about a female qunari with her tits out as well, especially if they are not perfectly round E cups.

He's been singing this tune since Inquisition came out, here and elsewhere, including at least one video game forum that isn't even attached to BioWare. (The Obsidian Pillars of Eternity forums.) He's even hassled David Gaider about it on Twitter, which went about how yoiu'd expect.

There is a strange predilection for Bioware character artists to create androgynous and fairly ugly females. It's been happening for three games now. Meanwhile the men are glorious, lol. I think it really is a thing. Not sure what the art director tells the team to pull this off. I've noticed that, for whatever combination of socialization and biology, straight women tend to be much more tolerant of love interests that aren't "conventionally attractive" than straight men are. Solas, Iron Bull, and Garrus are no dreamboats in the traditional sense, though two out of those three do have pretty smooth voices which I imagine are at least partially responsible for their popularity. I figure this supposed "uglification" is more an evening of the scales, so that female characters on average are comparable in "conventional attractiveness" to their male counterparts. It's not even new. ME1 Ashley's looks were fairly down-to-earth.

I remember when The Shape of Water came out, there were some who expressed disbelief that a woman would be attracted to a fishman when human men are abound. The response, which I have to admit that I agree with, was “Have you seen most regular dudes? Gimme the fishman, please.” 😂

thats1evildude The Shape of Water crossed my mind when I was writing that post. Try selling a Rule 63 version of that to a male audience without making the hypothetical fishwoman a lot more human in appearance. Heck, the fishman kinda looks like Thane to me.

Ah yes, the Cute Monster Girl trope. Male monsters can be pretty beastly and still be considered attractive, but a female monster generally has to be at least similar to a human woman to be a romantic partner. That tends to be decried as sexist, but I think it’s simpler than that. What women find attractive or at least tolerable about men is not the same as what men find attractive about women. Male monsters can be uggos because, let’s face it, most men (myself included) are damned ugly, so there’s less of a hurdle to clear.

I have my own theories about why straight/bi women are more accepting of '' not conventionally attractive '' men, but besides that I think it definitely helps that straight female love interests are generally, GENERALLY well made, important to the story and give off a very romance novel feel that I don't think exist in such caliber with other romances. Basically writers know who they are writing for and it pays off.

If having "beautiful" women in the game would stop people from bitching about how "sjw feminazi" bioware has gone, then sure. These threads usually end up cringey at best, sexist and creepy at worst.

I'm all for beautiful women so long as it makes sense.
If I am in either the richer districts or else an area where physical appearance is of value (*cough* brothels *cough*) then I expect to see some pretty women. But if i'm in the alienage I want to notice a certain amount of malnourished and/or deformed elves t. Which isn't to say that there can't be a few diamonds in the rough, but still. Some beautiful women is ok even though I expect to see more average people than anything else.
Personally I think previous games never went far enough in showing the effects of poverty...
