TL;DR Dark sphere 5A (+40% DoT, +40% Damage) is worse than useless and will actually reduce overall damage. Duration bonuses serve only to reduce overall damage. Dark sphere's DoT can last from 5 to 12.5 seconds depending on how long the target stays within dark sphere's AoE.

Summary Dark sphere will continously apply a 5-second DoT effect every 0.5 seconds to targets as long as they remain in the AoE. This 5-second DoT effect is not extended with duration bonuses. Whenever dark sphere applies a DoT on a target, it refreshes the old DoT with a new one. In technical terms, stacking occurs (similar to incendiary ammo) but the damage remains consistent. This disallows detonating multiple biotic explosions on a target which remains in the AoE. The listed DoT damage in the power screen is the overall damage that dark sphere will do in the listed duration. Due to potential bugs, duration bonuses do not increase either dark sphere's duration or dark sphere's DoT duration. This is detrimental because lesser damage would have been dealt in the same unextended time frame. This is especially problematic for evolutions 3 (5A) and 6 (6B). The damage formula for each tick in dark sphere is as follows: 250 * (1 + [DS DoT bonuses] + [general power bonuses]) / ([listed DoT duration] * 2) Dark sphere itself lasts 8 seconds or until it is detonated. Duration bonuses do not increase dark sphere's duration.-------------------------------------------------- To illustrate the effects of the bug, look at the following example: In all cases, dark sphere is casted on the target and detonated 5 seconds later. Collector Adept 65% power passives + 30% smg power mag Dark sphere 4 (damage) DoT damage (20 ticks) 20 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95) / (5 * 2)) = 1,150 Dark sphere 5 (damage, damage) DoT damage (20 ticks) 20 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95 + 0.4) / (7 * 2)) = 964.286 Dark sphere 5 (damage, recharge) DoT damage (20 ticks) 20 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95) / (5 * 2)) = 1,150 Dark sphere 6 (damage, damage, radius) DoT damage (20 ticks) 20 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95 + 0.4 + 0.4) / (9 * 2)) = 861.111 -------------------------------------------------- And of course there's data as usual. *edit* and thanks to tyhw for the help.

And does that mean if I take 4A, 5A and 6B the only overall effect would be I'd lose 10% of the DoT?

If u pick 5A and 6B u loose a lot more, in the 30% range based on my previous check 5A is a stupid pick. 6B however gives radius. --------------------------------------------------------------- lets consider Corlist build and only the Total DoT damage : DS is casted and detonated after 5 sec and your target is in the radius for let s say 3 sec. Collector Adept 65% power passives + 30% smg power mag Dark sphere 5 (4A damage, 5B recharge) DoT damage (16 ticks) 16 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95) / (5 * 2)) = 920Dark sphere 6 (4A damage, 5B recharge, 6B radius) DoT damage (16 ticks) 16 * (250 * (1 + 0.35 + 0.95 + 0.4) / (7 * 2)) = 771------------------------------------------------------------------ so picking 6B for radius instead of just 4A 5B, u loose 16% damage over timethats shitty damage anyway, over 8s moreover, so priming radius still a big gain !
