If normal lyrium powers dyed Fenris' hair white, is Shirallas gonna get red hair? On a side note, I'm having a hard time imagining what Fenris would sound like when doing the "Who's a good boy" voice. You bring up an interesting point. It's been a popular fan theory that the ritual changed Fenris' hair white but I don't think we have 'official' confirmation that it did . Unless, given how it changed that servants' hair (besides making him blue as well), it's implied that it does change hair colour? Very curious now how it would change Shirallas. Ha ha we do now, Gideon Emery is a treasure.

Thoughts and feels on Issue #2: Very good to see more Fenris, I think the writers nailed Fenris' profound yet straight forward speaking style, mixed with his typical snide humour. And of course him giving Autumn love was adorable. I'm very curious regarding how the relic fits in with Fenris' world of Thedas entry, seems like something that was used to 'seal' in the lyrium after he got carved up. Although I have to wonder, if the relic was only made for elves why did Danarius bother letting humans compete for the "prize" (as mentioned in the World of Thedas entry)? Probably explains why that servants' infusion was an utter fail, no where near as much skill and time needed. Lots happening in this comic, the Qunari were surprising. Francesca is definitely going through a lot, she's on the cusp of descending into a morally dark view point that I find interesting. Fenris trying to encourage her was surprising. I was expecting he'd be less than friendly towards a Tevinter mage pursuing power, even one he was temporarily allying with. Unpopular opinion but I like jaded, loner Fenris who didn't exactly have a good word about his Kirkwall peeps. Kinda suits the place he's in, especially following how he's probably bitter about his fall out with Shirallas. Bit of nitpick but I was surprised Fenris referred to his markings as "lyrium tattoos", when in DA2 he only referred to them as "the/these/ my markings". That was a little ooc for me. Looking forward to the next issue in March and seeing how events wrap up!

Although I have to wonder, if the relic was only made for elves why did Danarius bother letting humans compete for the "prize" (as mentioned in the World of Thedas entry)? It is possible that Danarius was privy to information that allowed the device to be used on any race but kept his source secret and thus the intelligence died with him. Alternative explanation: Another instance of the information in World of Thedas (2) being superseded by subsequent revelations because WoT is not an accurate historical document but simply an unreliable narrator passing on details gained by various researchers in world that may or may not be the actual truth. (Note: This is not a criticism of the writers of the comic but more a snark at Bioware for the way they have explained discrepancies in the World of Thedas books that were originally marketed as being "ruthlessly fact checked.")

So, a few people have been saddened by Fenris' comments on his Kirkwall friends... I thought I'd explain what we were thinking in this post. That's where our heads were, anyway... Thanks for this. I guess I was one of the few people that didn't dislike Fenris' bitterness regarding being separated from his friends. It's not like they've got facebook and can keep in touch whenever. I do remember a plot point of this comic was that Fenris was reeling from being alone, and his typical defence is to put up a front than admit vulnerability, so this doesn't surprise me. Then also his fallout with Shiallas, as an attempt to form another friend group, fell flat and that just made him extra bitter, so his headspace makes sense to me. But maybe Vaea and Francesca can turn him around. Oh well, can't win them all. You guys had some pretty big shoes to fill but as a Fenris fan I'm not offended by that writing choice.

Varric can and does know how to get a hold of Fenris, though. Or at least he thinks he can. That said, I also have no problem with Fenris' dialogue. I disagree with his assessment, but its not like its ooc for him to feel it or something.

Well, I don’t think it was at all out of character! It just wasn’t what I wanted to hear from him about Kirkwall I suppose.

Finally got my copy in the mail today so could read all the comments and make my own. not a fan of the art. In some panels, the characters look rather goofy and ugly. And while I only had a chance to quickly look through it this morning, I thought the slave they put in lyrium coffin looked a lot like Calix.
Not sure I'd call them goofy but I also thought the sarcophagus guy looked like Calix. Had to remind myself the latter was not with that group but up above with Aaron and the others. Floppy hair must be a thing amongst young Vints.
We hear Gideon Emery's voice with every line we write. Pretty much this.
If using regular lyrium on a person causes a massive explosion, what kind of blast will be generated by red lyrium?
Well, we got a pretty good idea at the beginning of DAI. Actually, this too much lyrium reminds me of the too much eezo in the MEA comic about the nuclear biotic salarian.
It's been a popular fan theory that the ritual changed Fenris' hair white
I think it wasn't so much the ritual as the shock to his system. Kind of like the Trial of the Grasses turned Geralt's hair white.
Overall, I thought there was too much jumping around in this issue. Something interesting would happen and then, if not an ad page, the scene would shift to a different group. And, when members of different groups look alike, it takes a while to figure out where you are and what's happening. By the time you do, it shifts again. I guess that's one way of saying these issues need to be longer!

Why does this artist make the Qunari look like goblins?
Anyway, I'm surprised to see that Fenris was blond. People usually imagine pre-lyrium Fenris with dark hair.

My adoration continues to grow! I never thought we’d see a Tevinter noble actually care about slaves, but Francesca has defended them twice now. First against her family friend, and now against Fenris when she thought he was going to interrogate them.

More magical Elf shenanigans, the Qunari being d***s, and even some background and development from some of our more notable members. This has been one of the best comics in the DA setting to date and I am thoroughly enjoying them.

Welp, 'ask and ye shall receive' is still a constant in this world lmao. Though blond...Is not what I expected based on the eyebrows and old concept art. The dark hair, based on a personal choice, just seemed to *suit* Fenris. Edit: So Danarius just stuck Fenris in the coffin and that's how he got those markings? This seems like a more simplified version than his WOT vol 2 entry which describes it as an elaborate process. And , oof, the pain in Fenris' eyes

Anyway, I'm surprised to see that Fenris was blond. People usually imagine pre-lyrium Fenris with dark hair. Yeah, that was an art team choice. And let me tell you, I was not expecting the reaction it got in the twitter and tumblr spheres. To me, it was clear he had darker skin and sandy blonde hair in the art. But our poor art team has been accused of whitewashing him, and that's never fun. How is Casse? He was hurt badly but in the last page is Aaron riding him again? Casse is still hurt, but is limping along. That’s why Calix points out that Ser Aaron is causing him pain. Yeah, Ser Aaron had a choice between putting him down, leaving him behind, or taking him with so they can move slowly and hope Francesca will return and can heal Cassé.

Unfortunately, segments of the DA fandom tend to be a little quick to scream “RACISM” when they see anything that can be interpreted as problematic, even when it isn’t. I’ve had fights with fans who wanted to burn BioWare to the ground for making Sera white when her concept art had her as darker-skinned, as though concept art was itself a binding contract. Of course, there’s a lot of LGBTQA folks in the fandom, and I can see why they’re quick to stand up to discrimination when they experience so much of it in their lives. And in generally it's good to be socially conscious. Still, this was one molehill that didn't need to be turned into a mountain.

They will always find something to be offended by. I also don't recommend apologizing to them, since it only encourages this behavior. Personally, I'm fine with it. We knew nothing about what Fenris looked like before his lyrium transformation, so why cling to pre conceived ideas? As for dark skin + blond hair being "too crazy", people should remember this:

I'm not entirely sure why is Fenris promising to spare Francesca's father. Is he concerned that she will be upset? Slavers have families too and that never stopped him.
