I find that is the hazard of a MMO or Looter style game. This pretty much sums it up. I was an off and on sub of the game for a couple of years. And it was my first & only MMO. MMO's appear to be all about gear grind. Latest one ups your max level, and gives you another set of gear to grind (as do pretty much all the expansions). To what purpose? They just re-level the mobs so that you end up in the same place, but need to gear grind to get there (which means you need to sub to get the expansion to stay as powerful as you were previously). And it's all about getting you addicted to it. Pretty cynical, really.
Having said that, I can wholeheartedly recommend it for the 8 class stories, and the continuing storyline though the Shadow of Revan expansion (KotFE/KotET, not so much). That's a LOT of content, and harkens back to the Bioware of old. If you've never played it, I think you'll get quite a lot of value for your first 3-6 months or so.
I agree as far as I'm concerned MMO"S are dead(my opinion) I will happily spend the money on a new game rather than pay to win, lets be real what do you win?

Isn't there supposed to be "fun" in there somewhere? I figure, as long as I'm enjoying the gameplay while I grind, it's fine. E.g. both Anthem and Monster Hunter World are grind games in essence, but the gameplay is really fun while doing it, so it's not time wasted for me.

No problem.
I personally don't mind some grinding, but it must have some purpose. If I am grinding to become strong enough to be able to continue the story-line in a game I don't mind (withing reason of course - I still have nightmares about "shards" in a certain game). However - That's only valid if the story-line (and game) comes to a finale and final conclusion. If it's grinding only to get some shiny costumes/armor/weapons/and-so-on without having some real progress or end-target (like the game-play in an MMO), then it becomes boring. If you have to play hours to get some new shiny shoes, without any advantage (or small advantage) it loses purpose for me.
That is one of the reasons I don't like MMO's (there are a lot more reasons, but this is one of them). The game never comes to a final conclusion, simply because that's against the structure of an MMO. It's like a game of whack-a-mole. If you whack down something, there will pop up something else elsewhere. And that goes on without end. All that grinding will get you something that will be overturned for certain later on. You are only running in a endless treadmill, without final target or purpose. It's an infinite arms race. For me - That's boring...

Yeah I get that. For example, if Anthem 2.0 would come to pass, and they'd increase the player level, rendering anything and everythign you did before obsolete, then I'd simply say "pass". Don't care anymore. I want my invested time to meet something as well. I'll simply look back on th egood times I had, but not care any more than that. MHW iceborne is kinda like that, in that all previous accomplishments regarding armor are now outdated, but at least it has story to go with it.

I think you just have to look at these games as having a final conclusion to what you are playing and not looking to the future. For you have defeated the big evil and their minions by doing the content up to the very end in the point in time. You just know it isn't an "and they lived happily ever after" type of game. You could even need that point of view during the age of expansions for you know something is coming down the road that means there is more to do.

Overhaul the game from top to bottom? Good idea. Though, from what I read in between the lines, BIO still has no clue what to do.
Nevertheless, monetization is goal number 1. Thus, loot and progression will be tied to it. One more thing, I hope the missions will also be overhauled from top to bottom.
Maybe mgt will look at destiny after all.
