Generally Kaidan, Lucien, Inigo and Auri (also Romanceable) are a great quartet of followers without trying to imitate something else. Having companions that actually talk and have story lines might make me interested in playing Skyrim again. I got about 100 hrs into and....that was it. Are these mods for the special edition or regular (or both)? They are available for both, though I do not know if they are equally updated or not. I only played SE last time. If you decide to play I’d suggest finding a guide for setting up mods that are not quest/companions. Visual/mechanical/QoL mods make a ton of difference, but it can also be difficult to navigate the tons of different mods that may or may not do the same things. Just make sure you use a guide made for the edition you are playing. Edit1: If you are a collector, you should get Legacy of the Dragonborn. Edit2: This makes me want to start playing again.

Are these mods for the special edition or regular (or both)? Both, at least most of them some of the newer ones might be just for the special edition...but I just had a quick look over on the Nexus and it seems like all of them are available for both editions Also, do note that Auri isn't called that on the Nexus...her mod's name is called "Song of the Green"
There's a lot more of them if you know where to look, most of varying depth and story Auri for example has only 800 unique dialogue lines, whilst Inigo has over 7000 lines some include romance (like Kaidan and Auri) and some are just friends (Inigo for example)

I've heard good things about Legacy...but my problem is more that I don't know what type of character to make
my current character is at level 14 but I'm having a hard time liking her combat style (mace+shield and occasional healing magic) For some reason my Skyrim characters tend to end up as sneak archers...

The one who is perfect but not a romance option. Looking at you, Sten/Sigrun/Varric.

The one who is perfect and not a romance option This happened with Morrigan and Cassandra for me (prefer female heroes). MEA gave us the bi Vetra we deserved though so at least that was a c c combobreaker.

ALL them...? Seriously, it's almost the entire list. If these categories are based on every romance option in the past, then that would explain why I rarely truly enjoy Bioware romances. *g*
Since it's faster, I'll list romance tropes I'd be OK with maybe: The one who dies Much smarter/dumber Sexually/religiously incompetable Dresses badly
Everything else evokes different shades of puke face...

Pregnancies? It's a little strange that Morrigan's is the only romance out of dozens that involves having a kid (unless you're a dwarf nobleman and have a son with Mardy), buuuuut also I'm glad parenthood isn't forced on us. Cole is the only babby I need

I would not like a romance where it ends in separation of some magnitude, and where my passion to someone isn't answered to with same amount of passion towards me.
