Since there are so many polls asking what people WANT in a DA4 romance, I thought I'd ask what people absolutely DON'T WANT.
This is mostly tongue in cheek, so please don't think I'm insulting your favorite romance. I've romanced quite a few characters who fit these descriptions, and I'd do it again.
Personally, I really don't want a romantic partner who (funny story) murdered their previous romantic partner. Surprise! Yes, I totally romanced Valen Shadowbreath despite his tendency to kill his wife in a completely unjustified jealous rage, and I enjoyed it, but I'd prefer not to have that sprung on me again. YMMV.
EDIT: Apparently I had a false memory and slandered Valen, who did not murder his spouse.

The one who is perfect, but isn't an option for me. I will never forgive denying me Aveline! I would have romanced the heck out of Sigrun or Nathaniel Howe, or DA2 Anders. My husband wanted to romance Wynne. I'm still not sure how I feel about that, although I'm getting closer to her age every year.

Most guys prefer younger women, and often contemplate leaving their older women once they get "too old" (each guy defines that differently). Not gonna lie, I kinda wanted Wynne too, and Sigrun for sure. Really DA for me, has been an exercise in not getting the romance options I wanted until Cassandra.

A good sign, as long as they don't expect 70-year-old boobs to be that perky. Zevran kept teasing Wynne about her fine, upstanding bosom. A side effect of them having only one female human body model in DAO, IIRC.
I'm glad you finally got Cassandra! Also, I'd be up for romancing scout Harding if she's in the next game. Why no dwarfy goodness, Bioware?

I'll take anything as long as it's not another hamfisted, offensive "gay issues" storyline, designed more to make BioWare seem woke, than for gay men to actually enjoy it.

Not keen on abusive relationships or ones where the object of affection has or plans to murder innocents.
Also checked "will dump you", because I don't like it as a default/happens regardless. I'm OK with it if it happens as a result of actions taken (in favour of it, in fact), but don't want to be dumped because the plot demands it. That would be annoying.
The rest of it is either fine, or could be fine, depending on how it was implemented.

Not keen on abusive relationships Agreed or ones where the object of affection has or plans to murder innocents. You could sway Viconia's mind away from it. She still planned to kill innocents. Bad girl turned not as bad is a nice trope. Also checked "will dump you", because I don't like it as a default/happens regardless. I'm OK with it if it happens as a result of actions taken (in favour of it, in fact), but don't want to be dumped because the plot demands it. That would be annoying. Yeah.

The only ones I'm allergic to are Carth Syndrome (ugh) and cheating, which I guess we should name Jacob Syndrome.
Other than that, it really depends on how it's handled - I've enjoyed BioWare love interests who murdered their previous spouses, dumped my character, betrayed my character, lied wildly about who they were and what they did and/or killed innocents. Oh, and I bet Sera leaves crumbs in the sheets, but I still love her.

But in this case it specifically refers to the love interest that won't shut up about their dead spouse. (I have seen people say it should be called Jaheira Syndrome, but honestly, if anything Jaheira moves on from Khalid too fast, whereas Carth's entire deal is 'HAVE I TOLD YOU TODAY ABOUT MY DEAD WIFE AND ESTRANGED SON?')

(I had to sit through it back in the nineties because I was on music camp and my host family and the other kid they were hosting rented it. I am still annoyed nobody else wanted to see Jurassic Park again instead.)

Dead spouse is a trope that have been used waaaaaay too much in BioWare games in the past, and can stay out for the next ten games with no problem (well, at least in male love interests... I wonder if BioWare would have the guts to use it for a woman LI, without the coup out of "s/he was an abusive bastard/we broke out loooooong ago/I didn't loves/he anyway).
Cheating a-la-Jacob? Ewww. I don't even want girl-attracted players to go through it.
Betrayal, dumping, death, killing innocents I can get around as long as are consequences of choices.
Daddy/mommy issues. This is quite tired too.
The others (aside abuse... I can go around a stoic LI, not abusive) I can live with for the most part (even the perfect one not being a romance)

Yes, I totally romanced Valen Shadowbreath despite his tendency to kill his wife in a completely unjustified jealous rage, Er, I don't remember that in the official game, and I played HotU I don't know how many times. When did that come up? The only previous love interest I remember was one who was killed by his demon master. Valen was never married that I recall.
I mean, I always thought the woman in that movie is an absolute nutjob. But it does not change the fact that almost every woman I've ever met has said it's one of their all time favorite movies. I just chocked it up to "Welp, I guess women are just weird". lol
Never seen it.
As for the poll, the dead previous lover (for whatever reason) for female PC romancing males needs to die a permanent death. Sick.Of.It. It's one thing that made the Liam romance in MEA rather refreshing.
