Why were people in the 80s and 90s more likely to be conform to stereotypes?

To expand on that, most of my peers enjoyed the first three Star Wars movies. The next three, only losers liked

Star Wars was quite popular. As for the push to reality programming, that was started during a writers strike. Some mental midget thought sticking a bunch of unknowns in front of a camera and encouraging them to act outrageously, petty, confrontational and stupid was a good way to save money and attract an audience...I think it was the success of the Jerry Springer show that gave them the idea...or the turned the Jerry Springer show into a clown act to get ratings...either way, it's influence has really dumbed down society and turned them into a bunch of shallow, petty people.
Especially the losers who get their news from Fox network and act like it's real.

I was youngish in the 80s and a bit less youngish in the 90s.
