I've always dreamed of playing a Playstation when I was a kid because there were so many cool games I didn't get to play on the PC (like Kingdom Hearts and Red Dead Redemption). But then, I bought it last year, and well, it felt like just another gaming platform. Expectation, meet reality.
I mean, it's great that I got to play Spider-Man on the PS4, don't get me wrong, and being able to play my favorite video game in the past five years before it got released on Epic Games (Detroit: Become Human) was pretty cool too. But I don't know, I think it was around that time when I started to feel the "sameyness" of video games. Complete a minigame here, earn a trophy there, figure out a puzzle here... etc. The Last of Us was... okay, but after finishing the story once, I didn't pick it up again (didn't even bother playing the bonus story, "Left Behind"). Until Dawn was disappointing, especially in comparison to Detroit: Become Human in terms of how many endings and varieties in story-branching you can get. Persona 5, same story as Last of Us - played it once, never picked it up again. JRPGs and their way of manipulating you into having 100% completion, man... Ain't got time for that.
And shortly after, I sold my PS4 and never looked back again. I would be tempted every now and then to buy a Switch or pre-order a PS5, but they just don't have the right kind of games to interest me. Then again, the same could be said for all the selections on Steam. I'm probably worn out by gaming. Maybe my attention span has just gotten too short to sit for 50 hours and complete a game. The only video game I've been looking forward to nowadays is the reason that brought me here: ME:LE, but only because of nostalgia reasons.
