I am having a friend print for me the M6 Carnifex based on the very nice work of a person known as jessthemullet. This, along with the items I have acquired in various loot crates scattered through Sol System, will make for a very nice Shep for this Halloween. After printing, there is a fair bit of work in assembly and finishing, which I plan to take my time with and try to do a "prop" quality final product. I will doc the process and share of course, but I don't even have a time estimate for the print job yet so "when it's done" timeframe here. I had wanted a Hurricane for my engineer, but I couldn't find a model that I felt great about. The Locust by same author, is pretty sweet and lore worthy, but to me the Carnifex was the first gun that felt right to me in ME2 and have loved it since, especially with Turian God Soldier or Destroyer in MP but I digress - the Carnifex it is! So, what gadget, weapon or amulet have you wanted to make, or have made yourself, with 3d printing? From NWN to Anthem, and everything between and going forward, let's be real: BioWare Store cannot offer us each the item we want most, because for some of us those are obscure items that wouldn't sell well enough to justify the production run. We can fill this void ourselves with a little creativity and perhaps a friend or two to point you in the right direction on your project.

Ok, so I have moved forward a little. I have purchased two spools of .285 PHA filament, following the recommendation of my friend who prefers the product I bought (colorfabb) for his TAZ printer. I bought "shiny silver" which looks gray to me, and should be a good base for finishing with epoxy and then paint. 2 rolls, cost about 80USD.
I was a little shocked by the time it takes to print an undertaking of "this size". I look at a pistol sized thing, and think "this is small, no biggie." This is ignorance.
There are 8 pieces to the model I linked in OP. Each one has a timing, based off of his software's estimation after loading the model -
Print 1 - 9hr15m, 10 meters of filament Print 2 - 8hr47m, 11m Print 3 - 15hr03m, 19m Print 4 - 8hr31m, 10m Print 5 - 6hr32m, 9m Print 6 - 3hr32m, 4.5m Print 7 - 8hr05m, 8m Print 8 - 3hr32m, 4.5m
Uh... that's over 52hrs of printing. Thank god he's my friend, and I hope he still is when this is done. One spool is about 90m, so I purchased enough for two runs on his advice, as there are sometimes errors and an entire print can be garbage.
Material arrives later this week, once he starts producing parts I will share the process. I have nothing better to do :|

I have exactly zero progress to report. My friend's printer head jammed on a project he needed to accomplish, and he was very busy so I got back-burner'd pretty hard. That's ok, he is doing it for free and I just had to buy the filament. I bought what he recommends and uses, and when I have an actual result to show you (any result) I will list vendors materials and of course document the finishing process. I am hoping to have it all ready by the time the Legendary Cache arrives, so I can get a friend to take sexy pictures of me in cosplay gear with my car, aka The Mako. Anyways, to broaden the conversation (or actually try to have one lol), have any of you got anything special planned for the Legendary Cache, or perhaps this coming N7 Day? For myself, I want to be able to nerd out at DragonCon for the first time in a getup, which will be a nice warmup for N7 Day. On N7 Day, I will sleep with my gun and helmet in case Sovereign arrives, and otherwise will just play ME3MP all day

He might be ready by N7 day if I would just get on with it already. If our local comic-con happens this summer, I'll probably show up with one of my N7 shirts and my omnitool.

This is something It is the smallest piece, but arguably the most important one! Not my hand. He sent me this and asked me if I felt triggered. badum-tish I think he has replaced the printer head, so hopefully there will be more progress in the near future. Edit: apparently two other small pieces are finished, will share pics when I see them. I have a short video of the printer at work, will make a compilation perhaps when this whole mess is done.

So, this is technically bad form, double-posting, but it is a new image and hopefully doesn't raise the ire of otherworldly entities, or our moderators. Sadly, it is also a failure! The support structure that the machine adds to the model to prevent collapse during additive process, was set too thin and indeed collapsed. However, I think it looks amazing, familiar, and won't be impossible for someone with ham hands to finish. I present to you a portion of a M6 grip: Edit: Low res, but that part is finished!

I am guessing at the base? I'll have to ask my friend, this really isn't me printing I haven't made that investment yet. If you look at the spoiler pic, there is a platform base that looks like it helps support the entire body, and I would guess it collapsed there since we see a clean cut on the first (failure) pic.

So, this thread is sort of a disaster and I will have to ask regack for some help in cleaning up my double-posts, once I make a properly formed edit to the OP. Since I am absolutely exhausted, that isn't happening right now. Instead, this is what's happening right now!! There were also a couple small donut pieces that are complete, didn't share them here because for the life of me my tired brain cannot think of what they are... barrel pieces I imagine. But just look at that curve...

This is really cool though, I wonder if there should be like a thing that collects it together in the ME forum, since not everyone in there might find things in here. maybe like a ME-related projects sticky or something? Can't wait to see this come together!

Ooh... it says "work in progress" and "no moving parts" though... www.thingiverse.com/thing:26792Deadly on full auto... cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/m8-avenger-mass-effect-3Designed from scratch to be easily printed in small parts, with little or no supports, simplifying the sanding and painting process. Largest part is 235mm long (could easily be split if you have a small printer), most are approx. 100-150mm. I've also included the entire gun in 1 part or split down the middle if you have other ideas in mind, go bananas. I've added a colour coded photo of all the model split up so you can see all the pieces to print. Full gun assembled is 668x262x62mm.

Yes! This is what the thread is supposed to be, with my current story a nice walkthrough of the process from a total rookie perspective rather than the main focus. I made it too narrow. It should be any BioWare 3D printing related, from NWN to Anthem, no judgment here just sharing pics and advice/experience/things to avoid etc. I will see about heavily editing the OP and title (if possible?) to reflect this better direction for discussion. ... Hey, check this out! Nearly there, several large pieces remain but you can see it is happening now

Not a weapon but I'd really like my very own Sentry Interface or Kuwashii Visor. Not sure if you can print transparent objects though.

Not a weapon but I'd really like my very own Sentry Interface or Kuwashii Visor. Not sure if you can print transparent objects though. Translucent is no problem, but yeah transparent isn't something a hobby printer can do. Not sure if it is possible at this point at all, but I wish it was! However, printing the "frame" is doable I think, and especially the fitting for the lens, which you could find some nice high-vis plexy for and cut it real clean... I like this idea My gun won't be nearly finished once my friend finishes printing (the machine is busy the next few weeks on their jobs, so I am back burner'd atm) - I have to sand the edge surfaces and any really rough print edges on the body. Then glue carefully (nervous about this). Then use some product (bondo, XTC-3D) to smooth some of the surfaces, maybe all. Hopefully not screw up the trigger mechanism and slide in the process! Then paint, rough up a little, retouch and finish satin clear coat... It's no big deal You can buy this pistol on Etsy right now for like 150 bux. I will absolutely spend more than that in the end, hopefully not too much though and there is satisfaction involved in crafting. Also beer, head scratching, cursing, more beer... It's gonna be awesome Edit: @vella, as usual I talked about me instead of focusing on you, but I was trying to I just forgot the relevant ending. With all of these projects, and especially something with optics - will require more than just press a button and it's done. In my example, it us a bunch of finishing. For a Kuwashii Visor, there would be fabrication in addition to finishing. Totally manageable! The issue with 3d models for the Kuwashii Visor is sizing. Fortunately all of us have differently sized brain cages, which allows us to look different which is delightful! However, this makes a one-size-fits-all impossible. I didn't think of this, I found this old post on another forum - linkThat said, I think this person just didn't want to do it. I have friends from other communities who might model a model for us, and make 3 size versions of it. They also might tell me to kick rocks

About time this thread got an update. Just picked these up today, cost was a bowl of spicy ramen The detail is pretty good overall, and with some sanding of a few spots I can make it look good with paint. Overall, minor sanding needed at several joints, and I need to look at the danged instructions about 20x more before I go too crazy cleaning it up... but, hey, this looks cool yeah?
ETA: The piece with the exposed cross-section is the same piece from an earlier post, and is not part of the build as it was aborted. I left it in here so that people could see the internal construction of the printing process. This thing is quite heavy in the hand already, by the time it is finished it will feel almost like a real gun in weight.
