Recommendations from friends? Youtube rabbit-holes? Brick'n'mortar Record Stores? Alternatively, have you listened to basically the same stuff for the last while? (Ex. Do you believe rock was perfected in 1974.)
Or spawn. If you have mortal progeny that inflict their musical dictatorships upon you, that works too.
***
I spend some time every few weeks burning through some Youtube recommendations. Sort it through a few playlists depending on what I want to do while listening to it. Read, fast paced game like ME3MP, or slower paced game like Endless Legend. Or a song I just plain want to have a toke lay down and listen to.

I am pretty well past the point of new music. I still get new items but they are from the old acts I liked. I just ordered 3 cds from Amazon, one from jethro tull, one from the barenaked ladies and one from peter gabriel.
The tull cd is the only just released cd.
I stumbled on one youtube single that was weird as can be but that i liked recently.

If it's actually "new", it'll be because one of my kids listens to it If it's just "new" to me, it'll be Spotify's fault.

When I was young, I went to record stores and looked through vinyl albums. I typically knew I was looking for old records by bands I had discovered I liked. Lots of Deep Purple, Rainbow, Cream, Yes, Genesis (Gabriel's), King Crimson, ELP, Rush, Alcatrazz, Miles Davies, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, Eminem, Mahavishnu Orchestra,..Etc. And as my favorite record store sorted the records according to content, I occasionally tried something unknown that looked cool, and scored, Sir Lord Baltimore, Great Society, Soft Machine,.. Sometimes I heard something on radio, Pearl Jam, System of a Down... And sometimes I heard something on obscure radio channels that just blew my mind and I spent a long time finding out what the hell it was, Trinity (Road to Cairo), Iron Butterfly (In a Gaddadavida), ... Sometimes it was derivative, Procul Harum -> Robin Trower, Alcatrazz -> YJM, Return to Forever -> Al di Meola, Rainbow -> Dio -> Black Sabbath -> Heaven an Hell... And sometimes a friend gave me a tape, Night Shift, Kate Bush... Sometimes it's a movie, Tangerine Dream, Sia... I don't really look around for new music any longer. I don't think the main music industry performs properly any longer. It's all radio pop, "whine singing" (which I hate, millennials apparently love it ), too short songs to say anything worth it, no guitar solos (which basically means it's not Rock). It's like something essential died with the Vinyl LP. A soul disappeared from music. The last new thing that I care to "discover" is Tom McDonald. He's awesome ofc, but notable is that I think he and his gf do it all by themselves. He's self published. Finally, I do look at the "What are you listening to" -thread here, to sample if there is anything interesting. Can't think of anything I've discovered so far but I'm sure there have been.

Typically from friends and family.
I also have gotten some great finds from the two musical threads here.

I just use Spotify's personalized "Discover Weekly" playlist.
By now, my Spotify has gotten to know my music taste. So it's pretty easy to find new music that I like.
I'm paying for Spotify Premium family plan and giving them to some of my friends. So we all love it and use it everyday.

On the rare occasion spotify shoves something new in my play list that I actually like... But for me, they're more miss than hit. Sometimes I'll look for covers of songs that I like and sometimes find artists that I like too from that.

I still listen to the radio in the car Not satellite radio, but the kind that comes over the air for free. Mostly for the morning show on my way to work, but sometimes I'll hear a new song that I like enough to buy. I also pick up songs sometimes from movie or show soundtracks, or from YouTube videos.

Oddly, through TV shows and movies these days. Some shows have awesome soundtracks.
My taste is very picky and weird though. So whenever I browse similar music on Spotify or YouTube it's 99% miss. Heck, even when I love a particular song of one artists chances are it's the only one. Very frustrating.
Most of the new music I buy however is a new album from an artist I like. I check all my current artists for new releases about once a year.
Waaay back when I was young I used to listen to last.fm radio if anyone remembers? I kinda miss it. Spotify I usually only use to listen to a specific album I found elsewhere. If I like at least half of the songs I buy the album. If I adore a song I'll buy just that one. What I listen to on Spotify regularly is single songs from artists I can't be bothered to buy. I almost never find new artists through the recommended artists. They often sound nothing like the artist I was listening to. Maybe that's just me. I find more games through the terrible algorithm of Steam Discovery Queue than songs on Spotify.
I'm browsing new music less and less and I also listen to music less and less while ironically I've poured something like 4 grand into my equipment in the past 10 years. Today I did the sensible thing and finally ordered a cheap (160€) DAC for gaming. I've been gaming with a cheap headset for like 2 years after my old DAC and headphones died (the headphones I sat on...). Even though I bought super expensive new headphones a while ago I never use them because I was missing a gaming DAC (no on-board soundcard, and my main DAC stays in the living room). So retarded. But I digress.
Lately I'm not relaxed enough to enjoy music. It sucks.

Very frustrating. I am similar. There are a few artists that I own whole albums from, but for the vast majority, it's just a couple of songs. Kinda wish I weren't like this, but oh well

My musical tastes have shifted pretty dramatically over the years though.
I still have PTSD from Jars of Clay. Oh those were strange days.

Car radio works the same for me; I listen to a German channel which provides somewhat different music than the Dutch channels.
I have not bought any music for years; youtube and spotify provide more than plenty for me. Several friends play in bands and through them I learn about new artists. Also checking the music threads on here made me discover new songs I like.
Very few albums are worth it to buy for me since often there are only one or a few songs on there that I really like.
