So with the Bethesda showcase over the weekend, we saw that Starfield will be bringing back the Trait system that wasn't present in Fallout 4. It looked to offer up a couple of unique options, and it got me thinking about whether such a system could be implemented into the Mass Effect universe. The Mass Effect games tend to lend themselves more on the action-orientated side of things, as opposed to being an RPG with complex character building systems. Do you guys believe it could work with this franchise? If so, how would you like to see such a thing implemented. If you're wondering why I say "How," when - typically - Traits are normally assigned when you build your character on the onset, it's because The OuterWorlds allowed you to pick up Traits as you progressed through the game; which is another way of doing it.
I can see such a feature being implemented, but it's a matter of how much in terms of resources BioWare is willing to devote to such a thing. You could have a trait called "Unstable Implant", where for a brief period of time, your Biotic abilities deal significantly more damage (or have a much shorter cooldown), but soon after its the reverse that happens (significantly less damage or longer cooldown). You could have a trait that grants you exclusive deals and weaponry belonging to one of the three major Mercenary groups, but choosing one faction will cause you to pay significantly higher for the other two.
I've found the community tends to be split sometimes on this particular topic, so I'm curious what everyone thinks.

I haven't watched anything Starfield related so far, but I LOVED the trait system in Alpha Protocol that just evolved your character based on what you did and how you talked to people. It could certainly work with the Mass Effect franchise or really almost any game with RPG mechanics, but I wouldn't trust BioWare to implement a good version of it. The trend of their games has been more simplification as time passed with more and more RPG mechanics removed in favour of a more action oriented approach.
I'd love more RPG mechanics, including a trait system. But I don't think that's were BioWare games a whole are headed.

ALPHA PROTOCOL!!!!
I really hope this game gets a proper sequel someday, or at least a "spiritual successor". Too short, janky AF, Million Dollar Baby. Love it!
So, that made me rethink my immediate poopoo on this concept, and now I am firmly in the "implementation is everything" mode. If a thing from another game/franchise can be well-implemented into ours, I'm interested and might dig it. In particular, if it follows the AP mode of actually paying attention to how you are acting in dialogs and what actions you take in combat so that your character trait evolution can seem "natural".
Good food for thought OP.
