Starfield & SW Outlaws - implications for the next ME

Now that they've gotten ME:A to be bigger with the areas, I dont think they're going back to small constrained corridors defined by the amount of console RAM...

They are still not planet wide areas, smaller pieces of a planet. Also need to remember they had smaller stories to be done on uncharted planets bsn.boards.net/thread/14800/me-andromeda-cut-content - ala ME2 n7 missions (which to me were better mostly than the main 'story')

Yeah, I'm not sure that's where the serious flags are.

I was a SW fan looong before ME and I was never a fan because of the space battle scenes. They're the most boring thing about SW to me. My partner always comments on how those scenes break physics (especially in the newest trilogy) etc etc when I didn't even notice, I just turn off my brain until something interesting is happening again. It's the lore, mythology, the jedi, well written interesting sympathetic characters, the creatures, which constitute SW to me. With IPs that are so diverse as SW and ME, it's difficult to know what people actually like about them most, and what the majority likes most. There are certainly a lot of SW fans who like the space battle side of it. But how many? 75% or 25% No idea. To me it would make more sense to have different games with a different focus, which has been the case with SW games. ME is so young as an IP that this hasn't been explored yet. However, I think I might be somewhat upset if a ME strategy game came out because I wouldn't play it but I'd still worry about missing out on something. With Star Wars, I know I'm not missing out on anything by skipping such games. Perhaps I have more intense feelings about ME than SW.

I'm not a fan of the fact that Star Wars is still stuck in the Empire era, the visuals are boring and bland. Ever since the Sequel Trilogy, it feels that all of that creativity the planets have been replaced by: "Dark and gritty."

Don't need space gameplay beyond ever more immersive (but not annoying; I could be meaning just a cooler UI) travel between locations, and space battle environments. But I never need to pilot a ship for battle in a Mass Effect game. At most, finally get around to significant side games in the series and test the concept out, but I'd hate if I'm as distracted by space battle MINI games like I dread about being distracted by eikon battles in FFXVI.

Don't need 1000 planets. Don't need 100. Don't even need 50. But 'more than ever' would be nice, so that could mean up to over 50, with much more detail and narrative 'point' to them than any previous 'UNC' in ME1-2, and most of the Starfield worlds.
But this is just a great bonus. If they do less than 20 planets/explorable locations, I can be just as happy, depending on the content.

Do not No Mans Sky this. Do not procedurally generate this game into oblivion. Just have a great variety and hopefully present them in most detail, depth, and flexibility with its content than ever before. (Flexibility as in they're far more immersive, with more to do, and in ways that might even significantly change them based on choices, etc)

If by 'space combat', one means parts where we board ships and take them over, hell yes, but I think it makes more sense as one-offs for story purposes, not a repeated randomized grind.

Seriously I just want the bad taste of MEA out of my mouth, while being glad that BW isn't abandoning all the parts of MEA that I both enjoy and consider canon-enough. They don't need to go Bethesda-worlds amazing for that, they need to be a damn fun experience for at least dozens of hours.


I want the concept of the mass effect to be more emphasized than ever before, and that could mean interesting things with manipulating the environment and having it and NPCs in it be much less static. There could be lots of gravity craziness, or good reason for some really open maps. Perhaps even port over Anthem (and upcoming Iron Man?) designs and make planets that I can zip around in a 'mech suit way'. But generally, I want tight enough environments with tight enough content. Bethesda games do their own thing that I don't trust BW to provide, but looking at Starfield, I think older BW games did their own thing that I STILL don't trust Bethesda to provide (sheesh, that NPC dialogue is still ...what it is).

I'm currently playing Fallen Order. At first when I found out that there's only 5 explorable planets, I was disappointed. But so far I have only visited 3 of them, with a fourth one available but I'm having so much fun with the other 3 that I haven't felt the need to go there for a change of scenery. The maps are so well designed and versatile, beautiful, with plenty of detail and a sense of awe. Beautiful lighting. And the game at least touches on ancient mysteries which is right up my alley.

It's a different kind of game for sure, so you can't really directly apply the approach to ME. But I think Fallen Order developers have done something differently to make me feel satisfied with only a few planets whereas in ME:A I felt like I need more. We had 2 desert planets, which was weird, and one of the most interesting ones, habitat 7, you can never revisit again. Surely they could do better in this department.

I liked the SW Outlaws Trailer for the most part but i don´t like that space rat thingy and the Trailer looked a bit like AC in Space

Starfield is to Big to me. Im always want to do everything and do 100% playtroughs and i think Starfield will break me if i try to do 100%

After watching that trailer outlaws is a definite no from. Tonally it just irked me.

Starfield As an rpg i have some interest. In the long run it probably won’t be something I adore as breadth at expense of depth isn’t a trade off I adore.
I really hope the next mass effect looks to itself for inspiration, especially mass effect 2. Tighter focus, much less open world

I mean... isn't Star Wars for kids? 

In all fairness, whether one likes Andromeda or not, it's irrelevant here because it wasn't really made by BioWare except for some last ditch rescuing of the project.
