Was 2014 a magical year for anyone else? Or at least did anyone here have a year where they were enthralled by something that was new and exciting? I was just a typical American teen who grew up in an upper Middle Class suburb and went to a typical American suburban high school. I was just a Call of Duty "Dudebro". It was the Summer of 2014 before my first year of college and somehow I became bored of shooter games so I decided to pick up a cheap copy of "Mass Effect" from a local GameStop after a friend nagged me to play it. What I experienced blew me away. It was like being the director of your own movie. It was like experiencing an interactive novel. I was never into "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" but somehow I was amazed by the world, characters, and story BioWare created. Even though the story was set in the future the characters felt relatable and believable. ME1 was my first RPG and I often went into areas with higher level enemies than my Shepard. I ended up quitting the game for a week abut then made an effort to learn how to properly play Mass Effect because I was intensely drawn to the story. I wanted to find out what happened to Shepard and their crew. I wanted to find out what would happen to Saren. I learned how the level system worked but I still had to learn the skill system. I killed Wrex on Virmire because I didn't have enough "Charm" or "Intimidate" and I didn't recover his armor so I end up having to do a new play through a second time. Before I didn't care too much about space or sci fi but after that I was enthusiastic. After experiencing the Mass Effect trilogy I searched the internet for other games that were narrative focused. I ended up discovering "To The Moon" and "Valiant Hearts: The Great War". Along with the Mass Effect trilogy I would never forget the experiencing those games as well. Without Mass Effect and To The Moon I probably would not have gone to see Guardians of the Galaxy, which introduced me to the MCU as well as "Interstellar" and "Big Hero 6". Interstellar reminded me of To The Moon a few times. I also discovered Neil Degrasse Tyson and "StarTalk". I ended up buying a cheap telescope and went stargazing throughout the Summer of 2014. For me 2014 will always be a magical and exciting year.

2014 was a great year for me too, but mostly because of stuff that was going on in my social life at that time.
