This is thread is to discuss what was your first game (or games) that got you hooked on gaming? One of the first games that I remember playing was "Rings Of Power" for the Megadrive. This was the game that got be hooked on RPGs in general and was blown away that you could travel from town to town, enter houses and form a party (I was around 5 or 6, so I was easily impressed at the time ) . Another early game that I played was Sonic 2 on the Megadrive. I used to play this with my cousin (she would play tails) and I would jump with Sonic all the time to prevent her from landing and running side-by-side with me How about you? What is the first video game that you remember playing that started the love of gaming?

Its been so long, I really cannot remember for sure, but I'd say it was a Pong TV game clone. I'd say the year was 1979. It also had tennis and hockey. Could be played with two controllers. The controllers only had rotating knob and thats it. Soundfx was blep, blop. Great, but I'd say for real it was Commodore VIC-20 and games like Gorf.

First games I played at a friends house on his Atari 2600 VCS. Defence of Atlantis, Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back, Jungle Hunt and of course Pacman were some of the games I remember playing on it. When we finally got a "family PC", I believe my very first game on it (not counting Minesweeper and Solitaire which I played to death on Win 3.1) was Sim City 2000, for which my dad upgraded the computer with a Sound card ( ). However, I think I was a bit young to really get such a complex game and was absolutely hopeless in managing a city effectively. I believe that frustration is the origin of my continued dislike for building games. A little later, I got on my dad's nerves until he finally relented and bought me the Jurassic Park PC game. Next were a couple of Star Trek adventures, I got for Christmas and then I was hooked enough that I bought my own games with saved up pocket money. The rest - as they say - is history.

It definitely wasn't my first game (can't actually recall what that was, now), but the one that got me hooked (and possibly set the scene for my future obsession with fantasy RPGs) was the Sierra game - Quest For Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero.
In fact, I'm so old that when I played it, it was called Hero's Quest: So etc etc. They had to change the name (of the entire series) because of a copyright claim from the makers of a board game called Hero's Quest.

Not sure what my first game I played was for there were a lot of games that I would play once and never touch again. The first game I ever bought was Conquest of the Longbow from Sierra. I also remember playing the release of Police Quest which was on fancy EGA graphics along with a lot of 'games' that you would code into the computer yourself.

When I was 5 or 6 years old my mother bought me a gaming console the Sega Master System. Games for it were hard to find but the console did come with three games and I was hooked on the motorcycle racing game called 'Hang On' even though I could never win a race.

Our first machine was a Commodore 64, and I played a loooooot of games on that ( Beyond the Ice Palace! Ghosts 'n Goblins! Wonder Boy!) but I have to say that the first one that really got its claws in me was an odd little game from Virgin Games called Strangeloop. worldofspectrum.org/archive/software/games/strangeloop-virgin-games-ltdYou played as an astronaut on a damanged space station, and while it was partly an action game with shooting, it also had a lot of puzzle elements. The first game I ever played where you had to take items from one area and use them on people or objects from another area, which sounds extremely basic now but it was a revelation to me at the time! We messed around with a few text adventures but never got very far with them until Maniac Mansion, my first true adventure game and the one that made me a gamer for life. The game that brought me here to this RPG forum, though, was Blade of Destiny. Shout out to the electronics store in the town where my grandparents lived for putting it in their bargain bin for $10, thus encouraging my dad to buy it for me and my brother on the basis of the cool box alone.

Oh dear.
My first game that I played a lot was PacMan on the Atari 2600, connected to my parents old black and white TV screen. After that, I played on the Commodore C64 a lot. The first game I bought and played for a long time was Microprose's "Gunship", complete with a cardboard keyboard overlay for all the keybindings.
This was followed by Dungeon Master and Battle of Britain on the Atari 1040ST, and then it was off to PC land with Wing Commander and Doom.

Not the first game I played, but the first one to really capture my imagination was Elite on BBC Model B. It just felt so real compared to anything I'd played before and there was a hell of a lot packed into a tiny program.

Yeqah I loved Polic equest I used t olove the Swat games. My first machine was th eAmstrad CPC464 and I think m yfirs tgames were Harrier Attack and Hunter Killer mostly. Harrier Attack was an aeroplane game where the aim was to shoot down other planes and bomb buildings. Hunter Killer you controlled a submarine and had t otake out other boats and things. I hdaanother game tha tm ydad coded from a book which was a pacman style gam ecalled Smiley and the Grumpies I think. Harrier Attack Huntre Killer Smile yand the Grumpies My interest in RPG's though didn't come until more recently as that happened largely thanks to Bioware and getting initially into the Mass Effect games whic heventually lead me t otrying out Dragon Age. I'm stilllearning a little bit about what to do and what not to do when it comes to some RPG's as I have found some RPG mechanics harder to play and use than others especially in games like the Witcher but I think I'm slowl ygetting there. I think it's just a case of me spending more time with them and really figuring it out. Thinking I might try the Witcher again after I'm done with Baldur's Gate.

We had an Atari when I was really young, and the games I remember playing with it are Super Mario Bros and Contra. At the time, I also played a lot of old console games on PC through an emulator. But the first PC game I played, not long after, and the one that really got me into the hobby, was Age of Empires 2. I believe second and third were Empire Earth and Pharaoh, so a strategy- and history-heavy start to my gaming career.

I played Elite on C64, spent whole summer on it. Then multiply plays of Frontier. I remember landing on a big asteroid with my puny ship. Awesome. Back as a kid I tried to get my hands on every computer I had in my sights and explore them if possible - ahh...

In the high school (late 70s) there was a Commodore 64 computer, and I watched people play a green screen text game called "Hmm Robbie" (sic). The object of the game was to successfully run a kingdom for maximum benefit of all, but everyone played the game to maximize profits without the peasants rebelling. I wonder if any of them work for EA. LOL
My first electronics game was Pong, and then in the early 80s enjoyed playing Pac-Man somewhat in the video arcades, but I was much more into Pinball. I remember hating Asteroids and Centipedes because they were twitch reflex oriented.
I started PC gaming in the mid-90s (before children) on a multi-floppy game called Betrayal at Krondor (which I replayed on GOG a few years ago). In 2006 or 2007 I resumed PC gaming on Neverwinter Nights. Then came NWN2, and that led to DAO ...

My first "computer" was a ZX80. Later a ZX 81 and a ZX Spectrum. After that I got a CP/M machine and a PC, but never owned a console. I learned assembly and C/C++ for the last 4. I can't remember my first game, but later I got "the Hobbit" for the ZX Spectrum and I was amazed by that one. About more than 2 decades ago I was a dev for a tiny company in Amsterdam (for which I created a games engine, which was used for educational software as well). I also had nightly talks with devs from an US based company for fun using IRC. They created productivity tools and games. We exchanged ideas and helped each other out. I made several plugins for their Object Desktop software, for which they paid me. And I got a special thanks in the credits of Galactic Civilizations for the PC. Good times. Later I read about a game from Bioware, called Mass Effect, which was still in development. The game concept amazed me. There I was also introduced to Dragon Age. Both were still in development when I joined their forums. And now I am here.

sjsharp2010 Ahaha! I vaguely remember that one! Also Sensible Soccer was another classic! Sensible Soccer was a classic indeed, idk how much time I spent playing it. But I've started well before that, my first game was a pong-like thing that my dad took home sometimes in the late '70s. Then came out the first consoles, few friends had an Atari VCS and me and my brother, and few other friends had an Intellivision instead (at least this is what was called in Italy, the Mattel console). I had many games and fondly remember Utopia (a Sim City precursor), Atlantis (a Missile Command like game) and Pitfall. Oh and it had an add-on for adding spoken lines to the game, I remember getting it with a game called Space Spartans. After that was a Commodore 64 (any one remember the Summer Games series? Spent so many afternoons playing that with friends).... at the end being jealous of friends with an Amiga (Defender of the Crown within others loved games) and then started with the first PCs. Had a jump into consoles again ... PS1 (on which I had a blast for FF VII, reason why I have been so happy with the remake recently), PS2 and PSP ... but then back to PCs where I still am today
