If I was going to attempt to make my own lightsaber from odd pieces...I know the first piece I would need is something like an aluminum sink tube....But rather than just going for the plain hum-drum look...I was thinking/dreaming of getting super fancy and doing something like voloured stone or rings of broken coloured glass. Ive ways liked the look of the rings in Luke ROTJ saber...or the black webbing on the finger side of Ven Zalo's lightsaber...and wondered if those looks could be achieved with glass or stone that is somehow melted down and fused into the aluminum pipe hilt...?
I know I know...here is me, a guy who has no creative or aristic bones with these wild ideas. But I am always willing to try and to learn. If I dont know how to do something (like glass blowing for example)...I would like to learn. Sure I have these grandiose ideas that, in my imagination, look amqzing...but vhmaces are they wont turn out like what I imagine...and while that is disheartening,.it is understandable, and Im okay with that. At least I tried.
So Im curious....could the glass or stone be fused with something like a blowtorch into appropriately pre-made grooves in the tube?
Trying to think of some crazy but doable ideas to try and make my own lightsaber. Seriously. No, I dont just want a cardboard tube with some kids' paint.

Well the first thing I thought of for a tube was a silver metal curtain rod.
Also there are coloured crystals you can buy. Either just glue the crystals to the metal tube or find a way to cut holes in the metal tube and glue in crystals.
The actual light part of the sabre is a whole other thought. There are some pretty high intensity flash lights that when shone down a tube might provide a beam of light.
I think step one is to draw out exactly what you want, then reverse engineer and break it down into components you can get.

Ive got some Techy connections at work so I will have a talk and give it some thought. I just watched a GCS video....and it makes me very sad. I wish I had that skill and talent! Every piece that that man does is a jaw dropping work of pure art and craft. No wonder they sell for thousands of green

I'm seriously considering buying the Kyle Katarn/Jedi Outcast replica from a shop on etsy called ALKYSolutions....the price seems to be extremely reasonable even for a NeoPixel bladed lightsaber, but I don't want all the gimmicky stuff like having to scroll through 40 sound fonts or blade effects just to find the one I like. And 9 times out of 10 I won't be using the blade, as it is simply going to be a prop for a costume....so the fanciness of the Neopixel blades are kind of lost on me. And when I'm not 'in costume' I will likely store the blade in the case and maybe mount the hilt on my desk for a showpiece. Yes they look very cool and accurate and it would be neat to have, but for my purposes- a waste of money when I'm mostly just concerned about the hilt. The hilt is what I am after. So I think....IF, if if I am going to make a purchase it will be the RGBS16 style blade (with a hard case). And that will run me 400 after tax with free shipping.
But I've been doing a lot of research and there are so many aftermarket saber companies:
-SaberForge (US) -Crimson Dawn (US) -TXQ (from China) -LGT (China) -Hyperspace Saber Shop (china) -Ultrasabers (which I've been told to stay away from) -Artsabers -Vaders Vault -KRSabers
and so many more I can't even list them all......But without a doubt, my favourite for eye candy and sheer quality of craftsmanship is Genesis Custom Sabers (GCS) but he is also the absolutely most expensive....selling for no less than 1000.00, some even up to 5 000 USD. True works of art, but five grand! That is way to much.
