Hi all,
In the interests of everyone's mental health, I thought I'd try a bit of group therapy. This is a place to vent your frustrations about little details in games that drive you up the wall. I'm not talking about lousy combat or bad writing that detract from your enjoyment, but the stupid things that make you go "just, why?". The more trivial the better. Feel free to name and shame culprits. My rant:
Sitting through the title and all the developer logo screens when you exit a game.
We're all use to up to 30 seconds of logos flashing up when we load up a game. But some developers feel the need to make you sit through it all again when you're done playing. Not sure if this applies to consoles, maybe it's just PC? Many games allow you to quit to desktop straight form the pause menu, in others you quit to the main menu and then quit to desktop, which is fine. The crime is the games that make you quit to the main menu and sit through the whole slide show business just to close the damn program. Occasionally, and this can only be to take the piss, you then have to click the "start game" prompt to get to the option to exit the game.
Notable culprit: Yakuza Like a Dragon
Bonus points: On top of the logo business, it took me several minutes just to work out how to quit to the main menu, because the option isn't even in the top level of the pause menu, it's hidden in Settings. Settings! My God, Sega!
(Just as well it's a fun game)
Anyone else?

Always: Sitting through the videos in the beginning, while the game does not actually load anything else except the videos...
Next: video you cannot skip at all plays for two minutes before you can get into the game. Looking at you LEGO games...
As a gametester these are my first rage inducing things, usually need to boot the game at least around 100 times.

No autosave. Most games today have an autosave feature, but back in the day there was nothing worse than making a lot of progress in a game only for it to crash and you have to reload an old save because the game did not autosave. This might sound contradictory but I do not like games that only have an autosave feature and does not let us manually save our game. When I play a game I like to make multiple saves in multiple slots because I never know when a game is going to crash.

Not being able to quit to menu when the game offers you to save between chapters. Bonus if there is a recap at the start of each chapter and/or a lot of cutscenes setting up the next part. It's such a good point to stop a session, fits with the episodes theme and makes the recaps handy instead of "we saw this two minutes ago..." Yakuza series for example is guilty of this.

Ya I always looks for mods or hacks to skip those intro vids. And ya if I can't straight up exit from pause its the ol altf4.
Another big one for me is graphic settings without previews or that they always require a restart to change.

Concerning logo videos: First thing I usually do is go into the game folder and delete some .bik files. In general, the things I hate most are not necessarily the worst in terms of gameplay but rather the little ones, where I keep think this was totally avoidable. One such thing that pops to mind immediately is in party RPGs, when you don't have access to all your party at camp. Prime offender here is Mass Effect 1, where you had to go to the lockers in order to change your parties gear on the Normandy and you couldn't level them up at all outside of missions. Another thing that drives me crazy is self-steering characters, who do unexpected shit in response to your controls. I am thinking of Assassin's Creed here (especially the earlier ones), where Altair/Ezio/Connor loved to run up walls or jump from roofs even though I didn't even feel close to giving that command right now as a player.

Agree with the whole "have to watch a bunch of credits b.s." when finishing a game...
Anyone get thru the extended, and I do mean extended, credit sequence at the end of Death Stranding?
If there is a longer example, please let me know.
Sheesh..

Oh, another one that qualifies here, which can be found in soooo many games: NPCs that urge you to go on. I hate it! You want to explore an area, you just know, when you go through that one exit, the game will move you forward and close that area up behind you, so you have to make sure you don't miss anything and somewhere, the devs put some naggering NPC that keeps saying stuff like "Through here!", "Come on!" or "We need to hurry!" It's particularly bad if there is stuff like collectable or consumables to find in that game, so the game design expects you to explore but then they also try to rush you with the NPCs. I never understood this kind of design choice and why so many games do this. Negative bonus points if the NPC has just one or two voice lines which get repeated over and over every 2 seconds.

+1 on absence of manual saves. And inability to name saves. And when a game deletes all autosaves in a part of the game (usually at the end) after you completed it, so you have to do it in entirety if needed. I'm looking at you Bioware! ME3 ending with its slow walking speed and Marauder Shields and lots of cutscenes and Starkid is actual torture if you just want to watch all the endings in one sitting. Agree with the whole "have to watch a bunch of credits b.s." when finishing a game... Anyone get thru the extended, and I do mean extended, credit sequence at the end of Death Stranding? If there is a longer example, please let me know. Sheesh.. Suicide Squad has credits that roll for 1.5 hours.

Sheesh, that's bad.
But,does the game end, and then the credits roll for 1.5 hrs; or is it like Death Stranding, where the game dosen't end until the very extended credits run? (and it goes thru them something like 3 times..)

Fumbling with controls in Forbidden West while using a Windows compatible controller; trying to activate the grapling hook and hold it by pressing the buttons as directed, but coming up with the shocker-thingy instead and completely fubaring everything repeatedly for 2 hours.
The north side of the flooded facility during the Death's Door mission is an example.

My Controller suddenly deciding to not work during the 1st Cauldron. I checked functionality and buttons in other games, it works fine....But for some weird reason my PC's KB/M has started acting like Sovreign and "assumed direct control", completely disabling fuctionality of most of the buttons and triggers and replacing "over ride" for example, instead of RT proper....It was "L Mouse Button"
