So I finished HZD FW and the DLC.
Bottom line is I really enjoyed the overall game in particular the story and the characters but some of the gameplay really wore me down.
Upfront I struggled with the new combat and probably only understood and made use of a very limited amount. I tried to do some melee combat stuff as described int eh Skills section and failed completely, I did manage to use the Valor Surge stuff but mostly forgot till late in the game.
The main thing that really frustrated me was the effort it took to do a lot of things and the insertion in the game of mechanics that really just added a time component and IMO little gameplay value. For example, the use of the pull caster to pull out vents, rubble, grab loot etc. and having to waste time trying to find the exact right place to make the damn thing work was very annoying. I just found tedious. Moving boxes etc. around to get up to things was old when AC Valhalla did it.
I found the whole Zenith thing while plausible to actually be quite jarring in terms of the game and the story.
I thought the side quest were well done even if there was quite a lot of backwards and forwards and that some seemed to be just time fillers. The main story I thought in context of the time the game took to complete to be too short. Some of the main missions were actually significantly shorter than some side quest if I am remembering correctly.
I liked the inclusion of the companions but thought they were underutilised, and I thought a lot of the NPC's were really great.
So as I said before I really enjoyed the game but my feelings by the end were relief that I had finished and like AC Valhalla I am really unsure if I will play the game again. I played probably for the last time today and got sucked in initially clearing some stuff but within a few hours was just getting frustrated and stopped.
So if I rated it out of 10, I'd at this stage give it a 7.
I ended up with 145.4 hours according to Steam but 107 hours according to the games in-game stats and I had only 75% completion which I find hard to believe TBH. Other than a few Relic sites and a couple of side missions I completed everything else I was aware of. I am honestly quite bewildered by that stat.
I finished at Level 82 and with nearly the whole skill tree completed except for the Trapping branch.

I said exactly this in a chat using DAI as the first example and then a lot of games since then seemed to have taken bigger with lots of side quests route. I thought the HZD FW Story was way too short. Or that it felt like it anyway and the mission to take the base given the significance was almost trivially short compared to other quests leading up to it. Especially compared to the final fights in Burning Shore DLC. The games side quests were good to great but I'd rather that some of them were written to be more a part of the main story but then again I am not sure how.

Still in the middle of Zero Dawn. I thought I'd try and not do all the side content and just focus on getting through the main quests but I ended up doing all the side stuff as well again and even did all the hunting grounds with blazing suns again (which, tbh, is a lot easier when you know what you are doing though). So, but now, everything is done, I also was already at Maker's End and foiled the evil plan against Meridian. Next up is the Grave Hoard and then I think it's off to the Frozen Wilds for a bit.

I'm sure my thoughts are already in this thread, somewhere, but I'll share again. It's been two years, and I've played the game 6 or 7 times, I think.
I love the game. I don't think any game I've played does locations, exploration, puzzles, traversal, etc... better than this game. While playing, I feel truly grounded in the game's world. Everything feels alive, natural and intuitive, like Aloy is an extension of me. That's perhaps the best praise I can give a game. (I wish KBM gamers had the fluid responsiveness that I enjoy on PS5. I've read about the common frustrations on numerous sites across the internet. That sucks.)
The side quests were pretty outstanding. The acting was almost universally excellent, and every interaction is fully motion-captured. That was great. The quests always felt worthwhile, either directly serving Aloy's greater goals, or improving someone's life in a meaningful way.
The combat, of course, is amazing. Like most games, it only gets better as your skill with it grows. There's a lot of new stuff to learn in Forbidden West, and I didn't get used to much of it until my second playthrough. I really enjoy games that reward player skill, and Horizon does that.
My only major gripe was the Zeniths. I think the story would've been better if the originals were long dead, and we were dealing with their descendants. Even NEMESIS could've remained unchanged, a mad gestalt of the originals. There was no need for them to have achieved agelessness, and it cast a cheesy pall over everything involving them.
Burning Shores was fine. The new machines were cool. I was hoping for something remotely on par with The Frozen Wilds, but it isn't close. Londra was actually pretty great, and I really enjoyed the main storyline built around him.
There just wasn't as much atmosphere in the isolated Burning Shores region as there was in The Cut, or any other region of the series, for that matter. It makes sense, given that it's an unpopulated region, but it made it less gripping for me. It was the only part of the game in which I ever felt that I was playing a game, rather than experiencing a living world.

dazk, there's a lot of stuff in the game that's well off the beaten path. There are explorable locations on tops of mountains, and things of that sort. There are also small side quests that are easy to miss if you don't pass near them and/or hear a rumor about it. Did you reunite with Gildun? When you said you stopped searching some of the ruins, it made me wonder if you found him.

Here are my game stats before starting the DLC Uh, this bow, and a legendary armor, were both only 1 shard apiece. Of course I had to buy them - how could I pass up such a bargain?
It's a speed boat! Currently absconded with the above boat to explore the area south of the big ol' tower death ray. That thing killed my Sunwing! And, as I put in the other thread, I don't like that I'm now stuck here until I finish the whole story.

When you said you stopped searching some of the ruins, it made me wonder if you found him. I didn't do the last two Relics, one in the main game and one in the Burning Shores so never went back after completing the other ones to Stemmur but not sure who Gildun is? Googles it, pretty sure I did his stuff in FW but not Burning Shores unless that was the Delver stuff which I got most way through but didn't find the last site. I also did not do the last Salvage Mission and there was a green exclamation mark in Burning Shores and one in the main game that I didn't do. I also didn't do the aerial surveillance quest I stumbled on or rather only did the finding the starting points. I was just too jaded by that stage as it was post the final fight. I feel like I explored the whole map uncovering all campfires and animal sites and nothing was left with the fog over it. So I feel like I couldn't have missed 25% but maybe I did.

I cheated and loaded a complete save file of HZD FW from NMM and am playing NG+ using it and playing it a notch up in difficulty. I actually lost a lot of purchasable outfits etc. and all the Burning Shores progress. It will be a when I feel like it PT but the first thing I have noticed is I have the sound up higher and there seems to be a threshold. I am now hearing more wildlife and the weapon sounds etc. although music seems in and out. Want to see if I can play it more casually not worrying so much and trying, trying to enjoy the climbs etc.

You aren't.
Open map and scroll north. There's a fair bit of empty black space and then the main game map, which you can fast travel to as normal. Or pick up another flying mount and fly to edge of map (if you're in a position not to be nuked out of the sky).

Going to post the NG+ PT here so I can write whatever I want uncensored or worrying about Spoilers. So started the new PT and being that it was a 150 hours of PT ago it was really fresh and whilst I mostly remembered it all there were a few things I had forgotten. Petra was as always a breath of fresh air but I didn't remember Erend being so salty at the first meeting. It was nice to start the game knowing the controls and where I was going and what was up ahead so to speak. Got to Barren Light, having done all the Chain Scrape stuff out and sorted Ulvund and the Bristle Back situation out as far as I could, had a nice meal from Milduf and collected some lenses for Raynah for later. At Barren Light tracked down the Eclipse and Silently killed all of them except the last whom I had to put an arrow in his head as he was too far away. Pic's The Wonderful Petra Milduf and his magic meals Helped Korvend and his miners Aloy met with SALTY Erend Met the prisoner and proved him right

dazk, that outfit you have Aloy wearing is the final reward for completing the Salvage Contracts. I like the Salvage Crews, and enjoy doing their tasks. I think there is decent variety in their requests. I hope your second playthrough is fun. I always enjoy my second time through a game. I didn't start mastering all the new tools in Forbidden West until my second playthrough. melbella, I wanted to add to the earlier post regarding Fast Travel to and from the Burning Shores. Once the skies are clear once more, you'll be able to fly back, as well. The direction in which you depart directly correlates to where on the main map you arrive. It's a small thing, but I like it. I use fast travel very sparingly, generally preferring to physically make the trip. So, I enjoyed that they made the journey to-and-from feel more real than just reappearing at a set point somewhere in the south of the map.

That sucks.) The side quests were pretty outstanding. Yeah Burning Shores is definitel ynot as big as I' malmos tthrough it I thin kI onl yhave a couple of quests lfet then I should b edone. So I thin kI shoul db edone tomorrow i fall goes well and I don' tend up wanderin around in circles too much. Iknow Gildun is part o fthe DLC and he's aroun dsomewhere but unless I d orun int ohim I doub tI'll bother with his ques tthis time .I nsome ways I' mkind of glad Burnin gShores isn' tas bi gmainl ybecause o fthe main game' ssize. I will be doing a few thing sdifferentl ywhen I pla yagai nmainl yt omake thing easier t oge tthrough. Because I thin kI'll enjoy the content an dstory more knowing what I have to do t oget through it. Bu tyea hLondra's an interestin vilain. Can' twai tt opu tan arrow int ohis brain.

Continued Burning Shores.
Followed clues to the Enki expedition and ferreted out what really happened. The killjoy Rheng was escorted to the brig. Gotta love martial law during an emergency situation. Turned over the focus and the cargo manifest to the quest-giver, then explored the Quen camp a bit more, scrounging for brimshine. It's nice when I need it for a crafting job because then it shows up on the map. I think I have enough now to buy a weapon or armor. Already used some to buy an elite level coil. Found a key and then the door it unlocked.
Finally decided to meet up with Seyka and tackle the tower: Yay, another climb up a massive crumbling skyscraper. Got stuck for a few minutes on the level just below where the camp fire is but finally found the way to go. Overrode the control thingie and listened to a troll message from Londra, then took out the drone. Seyka went back to report to Adm. Whatshisname.
I am not sure why I find this so soothing. The cars with the sea stuff growing in them freak me out but these with the flowers just look so peaceful. Got my Sunwing back! Next time I think I will just fly around the whole area to uncover the map so I can see what is where. There is quite a large area to explore so I'll act like my own Tallneck to reveal the map.
