It's a shame they setup the KBM so unsatisfactorily, and/or don't make it easy to customize. You guys aren't alone in being dissatisfied with it. People on Reddit had similar complaints.
I am guessing that they changed the keys around because of the addition of new functions. I certainly hope they didn't change them in an effort to improve the game. I'm sure a silent majority is fine with it, but there's a noticeable number of people who aren't.
I wish you had been able to experience the effortless gameplay the way I did. I've never played a game that is so smooth and natural, while you guys are having to carefully lineup jumps, worrying about how many times you'll miss it. ☹️

I found HZD FW was the worst game I have ever played for hand pain. My hands rarely hurt but they hurt a lot after even an hour of play and I found it also causes my neck and upper back to hurt as well. I think because with all the jumping I find myself leaning in towards the monitor to try and help Aloy make the jumps. You should try Jedi Survivor then....But , honestly, mate, take it from me (someone who is\was a die-hard KB/M user since my first days of Gaming some 35 years ago)....For games like Jedi Survivor, or in this case- Horizon Forbidden West- a PC compatible Controller (such as any of these www.amazon.ca/s?k=powera+wired+controller+for+PC&crid=1LAN4QXZU89DB&sprefix=powera+wired+controller+for+pc%2Caps%2C87&ref=nb_sb_noss_2) is SO MUCH better! Trust me....I never thought I would use a Controller for PC games, I was so die-hard for KB/M....But after how I struggled with Jedi Survivor (just read my posts....I struggled for nearly 2 months on one part using a KB/M setup) Then I broke down and bought a PC Controller and on my first attempt I passed that part I was stuck on and more! The game just opened up! It became so much more accessible, easier and far more fun. ANd honestly I was hesitant to make the purchase because (and I quote) "I didn't think I would ever use a controller for more than just the one game, and if that was the case I didn't want to spend the money. I felt like it would be a waste of money to buy a controller for just one game" (end quote). But now, I would honestly be hard pressed to go back to a KB/M (unless I'm playing MASS EFFECT). For all my recent games (Kena Bridge of SPirits, Jedi Survivor, Forbidden West, Battlefront II....I used a Controller and found it far more enjoyable. And as you have noticed...some KB/M bindings can really be hard on your hands. My advice.... try a Controller. I think you'll find that you like it for a lot of reasons. On a different note: I got into Burning Shores and I am really enjoying it ( in terms of gameplay, environment/world-building, characters and story). I am probably gonna get harpooned for this, but I like Seyka (thus far) though she does tend to be a bit arrogant at times, thinking she's better than me. She flat-out called me her "side-kick" (as if she could've gotten anywhere in or near those ruins without me). Pffft. I like Talana better though. Speaking of Talana....I have't seen her since we parted ways and she was headed for my base. I don't think she ever made it because she wasn't there at the End. I can't use a controller I injured a nerve in my right hand thumb. Talana doesn't go to the base but you can catch up with her at Barren Light I think it is.

In Las Vegas I had to climb up the lift shaft and 3 times I tried using the pull caster (Double Spacebar) when there were options clearly flashing to use it and it just would not work. Had to climb the whole damn thing!!!!

Roach is the best horsie. Although it was annoying, I didn't mind doing the Melee Pit thing a zillion times because it wasn't stressful on my hands (just my patience!). The races are far too pain-inducing, and they aren't short. After trying to use the ALT key for speed, I ended up with a cramp. Yeah that's th e one thing tha tma yput me off comin gback to play Forbidden West are it's awkward conrtols which when yo uhave a disability is a bummer as equipping the pullcaste rand then aiming and firing i tca nb eawkward when you onl yhave 1 good hand on th controls. Thankfull yin the cas eo fthe pullcaster you'er never having to use it at speed otherwise that would have been a nightmare and probably reason enough for me to quit so was glad abou ttha ta tleast. Bu tyeah that's the main reason why I've put anyplans for a second playthrough on hold for now as I don' twantt ogo through all that again for now. I d owant t opla yagain and I think I'll enjo yth esecfond run more tha nmy first knowing what to expect especiall ywit hhow I think I'll approach the second run as I think it will make parts o fit easier. I don't think the pullcasting will b eeasier but knowing where everything is and where I have to go will be

Sorry to hear about the injury; I wasn't aware and I hope I didn't cause any offense. Thanks for the info about Tallanah, I will look for her at Barren Light. No offence taken, I injured my arm badly and one of the nerves was damaged and I could not lift my thumb up. Through years of exercises and therapy it now mostly works but is limited in movement. Could have lost my arm so some thumb difficulties is not a bad outcome. It means I cannot control the joystick on a controller properly though. Talana is hard to find, she's up on a wall. It's worth finding her she has some good dialogue.

Wait, woooot?!?! Scifi people with personal forcefields, their own docile Sobeck clone and hunter-killer machines from the Matrix movies? What gives? So yeah, the new plot is taking shape and has me intrigued again for sure. Also did the side mission in Riverhymn and climbed the cave with the waterfalls. Can I just reiterate how gorgeous this game looks? But did anyone get a 007 vibe from that mission? The lady who gave me the quest goes: "When you get there, talk to Kue." And then Q uh Kue needs special materials to build qespons for the warriors? Deep cut or me interpreting too much into it? Unfortunately, IRL forces me to take a break for a week but I am lokoing forward to get back to it.

My god this game is massive... I think I might be approaching open world fatigue I've made it to Plainsong, and Aloy is level 12. When do all the ammo types become available? Aloy keeps saying "Frost would work here", or "Shock could do a lot of damage", and I've only got one option for each, and neither of them are arrows. Which is fine for burrowers or scrappers, but not so much those gliding punks.

In ZD more ammo types unlocked with higher tier weapons and all traders sold the same. Not the case now. Each vendor has different weapons and they don’t always use the same ammo types. For example I think there’s only a couple of sharpshot bows that can use tear arrows (same as tearblast in ZD, but much more expensive to craft), while others are better at just hitting things really hard. i think most of the main element and status types are available at rare (blue) tier, but you may have to shop around to find them. Also the advanced hunter and tear. There’s still more to unlock later though.

Aloy keeps saying "Frost would work here", or "Shock could do a lot of damage", and I've only got one option for each, and neither of them are arrows. Which is fine for burrowers or scrappers, but not so much those gliding punks. My first thorough PT took just under 150 hours, my second mainly only the main story took just under 60. I should have listened to Element Zero and followed the main plot and explored around it using side quests rather than open the whole map up first. To appreciate the game you really IMO follow the main story and in the places you go do the side quest you will find there, they make more sense doing them then but will of course stretch the PT out. You should have access to buying getting a Hunter or Warrior bow soon that will give you access to extra ammo's. Check out every merchant at every point of the game even if at the time you cannot afford them you can note the weapons for later. Compared to the first game I used a slightly different weapon mix, the Hunter Bow is more redundant except to prime enemies with elemental stuff, the Sharpshot Bow however was my go to for killing stuff even at the end game. If you feel like taking the more difficult route which AnDromedary did go North to Riverhymn you'll get a great Sharp Shot bow their as a reward but the mission is a big learning experience or was for me. I thought the name sounded nice so went there. I used the slings (you have to be brave ) but they are really effective, I also liked the Spears and if you are willing to take the time to learn to use them Shredder Gauntlets are great for ranged damage. My "Terminator" weapon though has become the Bolt Blaster. This game though you really have to master changing weapons mid-fight.

I think I might be approaching open world fatigue Welcome to the club...even if I'm kinda still playing open world via MMOs but they are map instance based, with linear story in instanced missions so not quite fully open world.

Yeah th ewol di smuc hbigge rthan Zero Dawn. I tdoes ge teasier tótraverse toward the en donce yo uacquier your Sunwin gmount. Prior to hta tthough th eclimbin gcan be a slog almos tas annoyin ga sth eswimming. Something I learned fro mm yfirs tplaythroug htha tI feel I'll need to carr yint oth esecond when I eventuall ydo it. I w asfeeling a bi tfatigued with ho wbig the mapwas too. It's one of the main reasons why I chose to not jump in and do a second run straightaway but it did get easier as I said at the end after I got the ability t ofly. Unfortunatel yyou'll hav eto wai ttill close to the end befoer you unlock tha tability. You’ll probably see frost soon, or maybe you just didn’t spot it. In ZD more ammo types unlocked with higher tier weapons and all traders sold the same. Not the case now. Each vendor has different weapons and they don’t always use the same ammo types. I should have listened to Element Zero and followed the main plot and explored around it using side quests rather than open the whole map up first. To appreciate the game you really IMO follow the main story and in the places you go do the side quest you will find there, they make more sense but will of course stretch the PT out. You should have access to buying getting a Hunter or Warrior bow soon that will give you access to extra ammo's. Check out every merchant at every point of the game even if at the time you cannot afford them you can note the weapons for later. Thanks for the advice, guys. I've forgotten the lesson learned in Zero Dawn, apparently. Follow the main story, the side content will find you.

Yea hwhils tI didn' tcove reveryhing as I kno wther ewere som erebel camps I didn't touch and I thin I skipped Cauldron Kappa m yplaythrough was still a tleast a good 100+ hours. I think I could cu ttha tdown o rat leas td omoer o fit within the time it took me to beat it firs ttime. Yeah becaus eo fthe limited weapon capacit yyou d oneed t ochange you rweapons up moe roften a tleas ttill yo ucan getto a stash box and resupply. That' sthe on ebi gchang ewith Forbidden West as whils tit' seasy t ocraf tan d use stuf on the fl ywit hZero Dawn asall yo uhav et od oi swatc hyour inventor ycapacit yin FW though your pouches are smaller and you can't carry as much in th efield so yo uneed to be prepared mix and match your weapons a lot more compaerd wit hZero Dawn. I will admi tthe nw emachines looked really cool though

My problem after playing the last three AC games in particular is, HAVE TO CLEAR the map who knows what you might find. This game does a really good job of leading you where you need to go through the main quest and then offering you side content which makes you further explore the environment.

I still haven't figured out how to 'equip' certain ammo types with certain coils/buffs (frost, electricity, plasma etc). Do I use a Workbench for that? In spite of not having the best type of ammo abilities, I"ve just taken down Londra's overgrown Lizard and rescue my Girl Friday's sister and I did it all with exploding toothpicks and my trusty giant boomstick that Sun King Avad gave me many moons ago. I love this thing. I've felled many gaint beasts with this here boomstick and in spite of all my other fancy shmancy gear, this baby here never disappoints.

This game has THE BEST inventory system ever! I could pick up everything everywhere and I never ran out of space! It's a hoarder's paradise.
This game though you really have to master changing weapons mid-fight.
Ditto.....soften 'em up with elemental damage, break out the impact and/or tear arrows to pick stuff off. Still not going down? Bust out the bolt blaster and blast away! And remember the weapon wheel is F not TAB in this game (unless you remap).

I still haven't figured out how to 'equip' certain ammo types with certain coils/buffs (frost, electricity, plasma etc). Do I use a Workbench for that? No workbench required. When you are viewing a weapon in inventory there should be an option to edit coils. Click an open mod slot and then pick a coil from the space to the right. Any with check marks on them are already loaded on a weapon but you can switch them around as much as you want. Some coils will only work on certains weapons though.
