Not specifically aimed at Rob but out of curiosity to all: do you run vanilla or modded. If modded, how many do you run? Just checked my own mod list and it seems I'm currently running Skyrim SE with 272 mods... What's yours?

Took forever to DL with the mod manager since it has the cap on download speed with a regular account.

I have so many mods that I had to merge a couple of plugins together due to the 250 plugin limit I believe it is. When you have to start merging plugins it starts to become a little tedious... Problem is that I have many little mods that do 1 thing like increasing the gold pool for merchants, allowing more than 3 arrows to be visible in corpses, so on. So, it's problematic.

The biggest one is SkyUI, the rest is all small "fixes" like Barenziah quest markers, unread books glow, no arrow cams, etc.

Yeah, I know, although that's only for plugins (esp/esm files): 'just' 187 of the mods I run carry one of those, so I still have a little room. I remember when I tackling this issue in classic Skyrim, I went through my mod list and often came to the conclusion that I had quite a few mods installed that I wasn't really using, so I threw those out. Also, I notice quite a few merged mods on the Nexus for classic Skyrim. Or do you merge them yourself? If so, what do you use? Wrye Bash or Merge Plugins for Mod Manager? @ Iakus : Yeah, Interesting NPCs is a 2.1GB download. Legacy of the Dragonborn (which I'm currently playing as main change to the game) is something like that as well... and it then has the option to download another 2GBs for HD textures.

after three days or so of trial and error, I think I finally have my imperial legion in Skyrim wearing that good old cool looking imperial armor of Oblivion, I can't stand that romanized shit that the artist did for Skyrim.
Has been hard, but I think I finally have that 1000-1300 medieval europe feel that Oblivion had in my Skyrim while maintaining his cold and harsh feel, I'm happy I think.

The irony is that the Romanized, newer design is more in line with the old lore as well as with the designs that were used in Morrowind. A lot of the traditional lore fanatics hated Oblivion when it came out because it glossed over the cultural differences that make the Colovians and Niibenese of Cyrodiil distinct from one another.

It's been a while, but it was pretty simple to do it, my biggest problem was choosing which mods to merge, I tend to pick related mods or mods that install various .esp files at once. For Fallout 4 I merged various weapon mods in a single .esp, the problem is when the updates start rolling in again... and you gotta do the whole thing again just for 2 weapons in a 10+ plugin. At first I thought that merging various .esp's into one could be done with Skyrim/Fallout Edit. You apparently can do it, but it's a manual process of inserting records from the various plugins into a new one, and it's essentially a pain in the ass. Merge Plugins was a life saver. I know Wrye Bash, but I never actually used it.

I don't mind the Roman style, it kinda fits it IMO, due to being the "Legion" . My problem starts with the non-functional garbage of weapons and some armors they introduced in Skyrim. In Oblivion and more so in Morrowind, a sword looked like a bloody sword, in Skyrim it looks like a cricket bat, or a glorified huge serrated knife, or some other nonsense. Axes with spikes everywhere because more spikes surely would increase damage! The artistic style they picked was way to fantasy on the scale. I don't mind fantasy, so long as it's functional that is.

O and the sword/bat issue: you've modded that away, no?

O and the sword/bat issue: you've modded that away, no? I haven't actually played Morrowind for any longer than a couple of hours. I don't remember much about the armors, only the weapons. I know they even had things like longswords, in Oblivion and Skyrim they streamlined the weapon classes like crazy. Not a fan. Oblivion kept functionality also for the most part if memory serves (I actually played a lot that game, just never finished the main quest). But I can tell that which each new installment they completely change styles, that I find a bit annoying. The same happened to Fallout 4, in 3 the weapons looked one way, in 4 they changed everything. The only weapon that was mostly untouched style wise was the Laser Rifle. You could argue in TES that weapons and armor change due to them being made in the different provinces, that makes perfect sense. But what about Daedric stuff? changing with every game, looking more and more over the top each time. BTW there's a mod done by InsanitySorrow that brings pretty much all the base weapons from Morrowind to Skyrim, with updated graphics and meshes of course (they're done by scratch), that gives a better idea how those weapons looked back then. Yeah, I absolutely modded weapons to be less dumb. There was a mod that did a simple mesh adjustment to take out the chunkiness of pretty much all swords. And then I installed a bow replacer pack, because bows apparently made of metal make little sense in my book.

Yeah, that's the one I'm using. Actually, I don't think there's another mod that does that anyways. And since it's just mesh adjustment you have complete compatibility to any texture replacer, so long as it's just textures.

I've experimented with more realistic weapon mods, but somehow they always felt a bit off to me, as in not quite fitting the general aesthetic of the game. Skyrim just is a slightly cartoonish OTT fantasy world, and those ancient nord swords etc. are more consistent with that than realistic medieval swords imo. Especially when I'm holding a fireball in my left hand. Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciate realistic weaponry, that's one of the things I loved in Witcher 3, it just doesn't work that well for me in Skyrim.
My biggest issue is the size of some of them in terms of screen space, especially with some axes and maces. They just obstruct the view too much. It's just stupid to hold the weapon in front of your face all the time, especially when it's so large. But Bethesda seems to love that, in Fallout 4 some weapons take almost 1/3 of screen space. I question the term "hip shot" if some huge laser rifles seem to rest on your shoulder all the time. Really awful design decision. But Bethesda being Bethesda, sadly I don't expect them to learn from their mistakes.

How curious, it appears that Mod Organizer does not want me to play Skyrim anymore. So today when I surprisingly found there was a new version of MO, I decided to update, because why the hell not, it already was unstable as fuck, what could be worse? Of course, the piece of shit didn't work after updating it giving me no less than 12 errors on start up only to crash after. So I decided to reinstall the thing, and the stupid massive junk of the wizard decided to deleted every single last mod I had when I specified in the prompt box not to delete shit, how fucking awesome. I lost about 20 GB of mods and what is worst: the configurations, the load orders, plus 2 mods I created myself.
I think it's safe to assume that I wont be giving Skyrim another go for the rest of the year, at the absolute bloody least.

I need to test it and confirm it because I installed and uninstalled some mods mid playthrough but when trying to enter Falkreath Jarl house I get and automatic ctd, if it was for this, cool if not then i'll probably give up too, cause the rest of the city works fine, though anyway I need to test more locations as I just recently modded SSE and I didn't explore much yet, but this things turn me off and I think i'll just return to Morrowind and Oblivion for a while.
Me and Skyrim have never been much of a friends, but no enemies either.

Just for personal use, unfortunately. One was to get rid of potions weight, and the other was to increase the effectiveness of buff and debuff potions. Not difficult to do, but takes quite some time and it's a tedious work. If there's any silver lining at all, at least my Fallout 4 mods didn't get wiped out. Probably helped that I changed the default folder for that one.

Of course, it still sucks big time but there's a good chance you won't have to remake those mods as there are prolly loads of equivalents on the Nexus by now. Good thing, too, that your FO4 mods didn't disappear!🍸 Talking of tedious, I thought I'd give the Recorder follower a try ( www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68683 or www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4718) and paste my fem character over her. But - whaddayaknow - the body kept to 100 weight (my character had weight 50), so I got a rather huge neck gap. Found out the mod maker had left the old version in there, so tried changing that as well but still the persistent body weight. Upon l.e.n.g.t.h.y. and t.e.d.i.o.u.s. scrutiny, I eventually found out that the mod maker - for whatever reason - had included a body texture, which refers to a 100-weight body mesh for male characters. When I deleted those references in CC, the neck gap was gone. All in all, I think it took me about three hours or so...

Yeah, the fact is that I did those mods myself because I didn't like any of the mods on the Nexus. It's personal preference how strong I want poisons or other potions to be, none of the Nexus mods were to my liking. And for the weight, it's either reduced weight, or no weight with some other changes I don't like. That's the thing with modding, some times it's not difficult, it's just tedious to do.

It's a bummer how fragile load orders in Skyrim can be. I'd say it's probably the game's truest Achilles heel: putting together a good load order can take days, weeks, even months. It takes less than a minute to knock the house of cards over. A Steam update, a deleted bashed patch, a mod manager error. It can be downright scary sometimes.
