Lets play a game! That's a cartridge from every gun I own, now guess the calibers! (Also every round in the picture I handloaded myself)

That's how the MG42 was used most of the times, on a tripod with an optic. I read books of German machine gunners in WWII and they used it to devastating effect out to 1500 meters! Also, the Mg42 separates from the mount by depressing just one lever, the team of loader and gunner would then carry the mount and the MG separately.

Shortest spitzer is .308 mehbe? RE: MG-42, supposedly there was one MG-42 gunner on Omaha beach that killed hundreds of U.S. troops during the landings.

Carefully estimating the bullet diameters is the way to go here! RE: MG-42, supposedly there was one MG-42 gunner on Omaha beach that killed hundreds of U.S. troops during the landings. I discovered the video just a couple days ago! Also I have to say the historic gun stuff and WWI stuff on that channels is pretty damn good, lots of videos worth to watch. And the simplistic animations are kind of fun too.

Lets play a game! That's a cartridge from every gun I own, now guess the calibers! (Also every round in the picture I handloaded myself) I think I know 3 of them. Lets see, far right is 9x19. I think the one to the left of that is a .45? Just based on physical size, the one 4 in from the right is a .223/5.56 round? guessing the one to the left of that is a .308/7.62 nato? 100% guess, the one second to last on the left is a 45-70 gov? And the one on the far left is a 12ga slug.
How'd I do?

So-so. The three rifle cartridges nearly have the same bullet diameter - .223 is considerably smaller than any of those, thats actually a .308 as Lavo said. 45-70 is correct, so is .45acp, 9mm and 12G. Now name the other cartridges or else! *edit*I just took a pic of 308 and .223 side by side for comparison. There is a big size and energy difference between the two.

I actually forgot you had .45-70, otherwise i would've guessed that. Although, I had figured it was some kind of long lever gun cased cartridge like 30-30.

So yesterday I went to the range with my Beretta 81BB, .38 snub and .357. Firing the '81/32.ACP was a rather pleasant experience, the 71 grain FMJs had light recoil that was a bit more than .22LR but less than a .380, making it a pretty good round to start with for new shooters. I shot 100 rounds of it and only had one failure where an ejecting case got locked up in the lips of the ejection port but a quick hit had it removed and the '81 back into action with no problems. I also shot a few rounds with it one handed and it was pretty smooth too. More importantly, I tested 12 rounds of the Xtreme Defender "+P" ammo due to wanting to get a feel of the recoil and if it would feed reliability(i know it did for MAC but i wanted to see it for myself), and as far as recoil goes, it's akin to that of a .380 and I'm happy to report that it fed perfectly. I can safely say that this .32 auto ammo is not to be trifled with and it's a very viable self-defense cartridge, especially out of a 3.5+ inch barrel like in a Beretta 81. Oh and if you've noticed, i have a "gripper" pocket holster which i recently bought for it. It fits comfortably in my pocket and you can access the safety when it's in there, which is especially nice if you're carrying "cocked and locked" and i've done some drills where i would disengage the safety quickly when drawing it out. Next up, firing the .38 snub and with .38 +P ammo to boot(which since I have +P rounds for concealed carry made perfect sense). The recoil felt like i was firing a "mini-magnum", which isn't too surprising given that it's an airweight and it was more felt recoil than the .32 xtreme defender and with more visible muzzle flash. I fired it using irons, the laser and one handed with each hand separately. It's tougher to extract spent shell cases than a full sized revolver like my Model 65 .357, which is to be expected from its shorter extractor, which means you have to hit it harder or yank out the partially removed cases by hand. I'm considering carrying the '81 for CC during the day and the snub at night(due to its laser).

Lets play a game! That's a cartridge from every gun I own, now guess the calibers! (Also every round in the picture I handloaded myself) Let's guess on the three bottlenecks. From the left, 7.92 aka 8mm Mauser. Then it's a Mystery cartridge. Finally the .308 is easy to recognize. I've fired thousands and thousands of those. ...And I think the Mystery cartridge in the middle just might be .284 Winchester? Maybe? Mainly because I can't figure anything else. The rest is easy, though I would still have guessed wrong (.44 Mag) on the .44-40.

I knew that one wasn't a .44 mag since it has a cut/line across it near the center of the casing that the .44 mag doesn't(far right). The .44 special however, does have something similar to the .44-40 on its casing too(second from right).

I knew that one wasn't a .44 mag since it has a cut/line across it near the center of the casing that the .44 mag doesn't(far right). The ring is there to prevent bullet setback, you can use this method when the bullet you are using does not have a crimp groove so you simply crimp it in the back to prevent bullet setback. (Which causes major pressure increase and a truckload of pain) Mostly done on the 44-40 because it is mainly used in tubular magazines in rifles where bullets push against each other. Let's guess on the three bottlenecks. Very good! The mystery cartridge is the 7.5x55 Swiss, which the famous Swiss Schmidt Rubin straight pull rifles were chambered in, along with the machineguns of course. Its a little saddening that the 8x57 Mauser was not instantly recognized by everyone, it was the main cartridge of the Germans in WWI and WWII and probably sent more people into heaven than any other round in history.

Fun fact: 8mm Mauser was used by the British in WW2 with their "Besa" machine guns. which they used on vehicles. They of course would make use of captured German ammunition for it.
