Loved "Children of Dune" and " God Emperor of Dune". The rest not so much... Wait, what? You didn't like DUNE? The first book? So i finished this one here gem. And this one. That I love Dune goes without saying. Why would I bother with the rest? Also, yay, Terry Pratchett!!

Also, yay, Terry Pratchett!! i loved them all, i think i read them 3 times, once once i was more mature. But i dont remember much. AFAIR, Chapterhouse Dune was both entertaining and with a good core too, while the one around the worm god was far more philosophical and ...
Not sure anything from the last decades can compare ?
Anyway, just closed on a tough book from a prolific french author i never heard about before that
A long story around a plantation in Louisiana just around the independence war and 2 generation of exiled French redheads.
Style was a bit problematic at times, but nailed some really impressive sentences quite often. Story in the end was not so good, but characters and environment, even if i regret the lack of context (well, cant blame the author, it wouldnt have fit the narration) , were really good
I think i ll start Louise Erdrich Larose now

Chapterhouse was indeed interesting, but its resolution in the Brian Herbert's novels was anticlimactic for me. As for Pelot, isn't he mostly writing SF?

As for Pelot, isn't he mostly writing SF? Seems he wrote a lot of SF few decades ago or closer. But he has around 200 published books/comics/screenplay. He started with westerns though. As for Brian, i never bothered reading his stuff

And this one. I just read the entire series last year. It was an interesting read. Though I missed alot of references to his other works. As I didn't read any of his other works.
I found some scenes to be very immature, and others to be drastically different. It was clear he wrote if over the course of a very long time.
Still, I think it was interesting enough to get me to finish it. Though the last few books were work for me.
I would recommend it to anyone who saw the movie, and got interested in the story/universe.

Yes, it is clear that The Gunslinger is an early work. So I'll see the progress of his writing while read the rest.

I decided to give the Vorkosigan Saga a try, starting with the omnibus, Young Miles. So far, I like it. A bit talk heavy with a lot of politics, but otherwise, the main story is a breeze to go through. Kind of surprised there isn't a movie or TV show yet.

I'm reading Turbo Twenty-Three, a goofy murder mystery that involves lots of Ice Cream, and characters like Lulu the Ex-Ho turned Bounty Hunter or something.

I read most of this series, I think I tapped out at book 20. I really enjoy the writing style and characters but after awhile it felt like there was no over arching story, you could easily miss a book and not be lost. 'Steph goes looking for something, hijinks ensue, she is torn between the cop and the merc, deathly danger, saves the day'.... rinse and repeat.

Having devoted my time to finishing up Neutron Star, I'm back to two books at a time (one physical, one Kindle). This one is great. Makes me heart beat fast and have to put the book down because I'm nervous about what's coming next. This one is so-so. Not far enough into it to make a judgment call but it's not the worst thing I've ever read. (There are books I've never finished due to the terrible writing.)

Tigerland went way faster than I though. Also The Dystiopia Spell is better than I thought but I'm still not far along. Then there's this book from when I was in my late teens. It's was probably the first time I say a gay character take the lead.

I really loved that trilogy, and Queen's Own as well. I don't like the latter books as much though....the main chars just don't seem to be as compelling as Vanyel and Talia were. Kerowyn might be my favorite though.

I only read the Last Herald-Mage trilogy. At the time I bought it, I wasn't out, had never done anything with another guy, and didn't really connect to being gay. I made this purchase largely because of the cover. I had no idea the lead was going to turn out gay. I definitely prodded me toward coming out. I was just reading this on the train ride to see my father. Had me in tears because he was so closed off, even to people who were trying to help him.

Been listening to The Lost Fleet & The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier series on audible. I believe Iakus recommended these books to me several years ago, and now that I've finally gotten around to 'reading' them I have to say they are a great choice. The tactics explained in how the fleets engage each other is well done, and the political back and forth between characters is very well done. Makes me wish that Mass Effect would have followed suit in it's depiction of humanity and naval tactics.

A friend strongly recommended this to me, Thoroughly enjoying it so far. Powerful prose and imagery. Encouraging me to give more of Octavia E. Butler’s works a read. Aaand (cause I’m polyamorous when it comes to books) I’m re-reading The Witcher short stories and novels for the 5th time. Currently on, Sapkowski is my favourite author of fantasy literature after Tolkien. Time of Contempt is my third favourite in the series, after Sword of Destiny and Lady of the Lake.
