Iakus you recommended I think The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. I also saw that he has another series The Lightbringer series are they at all related, should I read one before the other? Cheers Actually that was me. The titles are not related....Personally, I would read The Night Angel before The Light Bringer (because Book 5 isn't out yet, won't be till August) so you'll have to wait to complete the series.....But The Night Angel is what got me hooked on Brent Weeks, seriously Such a great story. Read it four times and found new things in it each time, either details I missed, or things about the characters that I grew to appreciate more.

Cheers I believe the two series are unrelated. I read the Night Angel trilogy, and it's pretty good, though it runs kinda dark for my taste. I only read the first book of the Lightbringer series. Thought it was kinda meh. But maybe it improved as the series went on. The Night Angel does get dark in places, but that's part of the main character's redemptive journey. The Light bringer does improve as the books progress. I am 2/3's into book 4 and there's alot of character growth and intricacies of the plot that have unfolded which were only hinted at earlier on.

Star Wars: Aftermath Empire's End by Chuck Wendig
I'd heard this was the novel that explains the Star Destroyer wreck on Jakku so I decided to read it. It's part of a trilogy, so far I don't feel like I've missed much. The prose is written in the present tense which I am not used to, and gives the story an immediate feel. It's not too bad. So far the standout character is the reconstructed battle droid Mr. Bones, whose description makes him seem like he is from the Clone Wars?

The prose is written in the present tense I'm not a big fan of that style, nor do I like first person perspective for fiction. Started "Robots of Dawn" this weekend. Read "The Naked Sun" last weekend. #3 is about twice as long as the first 2, so won't be finishing it in 1or 2 sittings. Maybe next weekend though.

Reading the Witcher books. Finished Time of Contempt, now onto Baptism by Fire. Enjoying them quite a bit. I've been amusing myself as well thanks to things from the games. Like when the Professors glasses fell off him and smashed on the floor as he died. So does Geralt buy counterfeit glasses at the auction in Heart of Stone or what? LOL.
And speaking of that scene, I loved this quote from Geralt afterwords, "It may turn out, that their comrades or cronies may ask what befell these evil men. Tell them the Wolf bit them. The White Wolf. And add that they should keep glancing over their shoulders. One day they'll look back and see the Wolf."

I finished reading some books of Essays by George Orwell my nieces husband wanted me to read. I decided I had better read some of his (Orwells) more famous novels that every one but me has read.
I just finished 'Animal Farm' and am now reading '1984'.
I tried to go back to the sci fi series I had shelved but it was just as terrible as it was before so I have set it aside again.

So re-read Stars now Unclaimed by Drew Williams which was as good as I remembered and then read the sequel Chain Across The Dawn. It was a considerable let down, it seemed rushed and the main perspective of the story switched mostly to a different character that Jane the original character recruited during the original called Elsa. It is set 3 years later and Elsa is now 17 and the book is mainly about a new race and discovering Elsa's past. That isn't too bad BUT the swearing is just so over the top by this teen as to be distracting and its totally unnecessary. I managed to watch all of Deadwood in which the language is OTT but it fit the setting, this just seemed to be for done for some sort of shock value. It seemed to me immature and it isn't a tool such a good writer should have felt the need to use. Anyway where I would rate the original at least an 8.5/10 I'd give this one a six, it's not just the language thing but just too many pull a rabbit out my arse moments as well whereas the previous book was really solid on solutions to combat situations etc. Anyway then read a trilogy and a follow up book based on a character called Captain Drummond Bayne for which the books are named and that is enough said about that, except ordinary characters, story all over the place poor writing and I am still not sure what the whole point was. So moving right along... picked up another free trilogy called "Planetsider" first chapter was better than the last series I read!!!!! Blurb:"Cities fell, the lands were scorched and then the sickness came. No-one knows why, but one man is about to find out. Ethan is a ranger, sworn to protect the scattered settlements that rose up after the Fall. The rangers fight savage roamers, twisted by a sickness known as the Maddening, and scout the wastelands for the resources they need to survive. No-one knows what caused the devastation or the Maddening, but Ethan is determined to get answers. He’ll wish he never asked. Trapped in space for generations, two factions of the advanced pre-Fall civilization are still locked in a bitter war. To end it, they must find a planetsider. When Captain Maria Salus and Commander Chris Kurren crash to the planet’s surface and beg for Ethan’s help, he agrees to go with them. In return he’ll learn the truth. But the reality is darker than he ever imagined. They say ignorance is bliss. But you can’t unlearn the truth. Now Ethan has no choice but to fight, not only for those he loves, but for the very future of life itself, planetside."Looked up the Brent Weeks Night Angel trilogy but need to save some money ATM so need to keep that one o hold as its still full price on the kindle for me.

Picked up about about 2/3 with some twists that had me immediately jumping ahead to see if, wait, is that character REALLY dead? Bit of a bittersweet downer that (unwittingly?) foreshadowed some of the events in Rise of Skywalker, though I'm not sure what exactly Palpatine's full Contingency was - probably another book, comic, streaming series there. At least now I know what all that crap wreckage was on Jakku! Although now, I am REALLY curious as to how Rey survived such a place living on her own. Well, its a big planet I suppose, different factions in different territories, etc...

I finished the Call of Cthulhu source/adventurebook Reign of Terror, which is set during the French Revolution.
I have also finished the last book by Ruth Wäre, I haven't read yet, The turn of the key. While the story is interesting and exciting, I found the solution a bit far fetched, so this is the only Ruth Ware book, I can't really recommend for that reason. The others are great, go, try them, if you are into mysteries.
Now back to the second Witcher book, Sword of Destiny. I must say, I'm really not a fan of Yennefer. So far, I don't get the appeal of that character (had problems with her in the show too).

Armies of the Silver Mage. Don't read it. It's a poorly written, thinly veiled rip-off of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Word choices in some instances are terrible. Random bios for characters. Narrator is used to excess over development throughout the story. Seems like it was in need of an editor. I'll probably finish it, because I want to see where it goes, but I can't imagine reading another book in the trilogy.

Now back to the second Witcher book, Sword of Destiny. I must say, I'm really not a fan of Yennefer. So far, I don't get the appeal of that character (had problems with her in the show too). It didn't help that there is so little of her. I gave myself a headache trying to understand her in A Shard of Ice, then came to the conclusion that you really aren't meant to understand completely. Even if you take a favorable view of her she still comes off as a bitch (though a sympathetic one). I guess her endearing quality is her willingness to understand and accept Geralt and all his flaws. Really I'm just impressed by how good of a job CDPR did keeping true to Yennefer's character in TW3. The Last Temptation of Krusty Homer Simpson ^Geralt on the other hand... this is basically him in Baptism of Fire. LOL.

I just finished '1984' by Orwell. Even a bleaker novel than I thought it was going to be. Not sure what to read next just yet. Back in school I wrote a pretty thorough (about 50 pages) analysis on the book and the author. Had not read it before then (we had to choose from a limited number of books to write about) but I feel I got lucky as it was a great book. It was also super interesting to research how Orwell came up with a lot of the things that are described within the novel. I think it's still a must-read for anyone who is into literature that deals with the future.
Also, it's almost like a precursor to the cyberpunk genre.

Thrawn - Timothy Zahn A riveting origin story detailing the Grand Admiral's rise to power. It reads like a collection of connected Sherlock Holmes stories, if one can imagine Holmes as an officer in the military fighting discrimination while quickly rising in the ranks, chasing smugglers, corrupt leaders, and other Imperial criminals across the galaxy as bloodlessly as possible. I kept expecting Thrawn to turn to his assistant Eli while explaining one of his convoluted yet completely logical tactics to assert, "It's... elementary, my dear Vanto." Certainly there were a few, "The game's afoot," moments in the chase of his Rebel nemisis Nightswan. I saw a few clips of Thrawn from the Rebels series, and the version portrayed here is much more principled and likeable - not nearly so murderous, though I suppose his capture on the initial planet in Wild Space was a bit so. But the character who stole the show was Arihnda Pryce, and her unexpected parallel origin story. I didn't know who she was (apparently a character from the Rebels series) and was quite bored with what started out as the portrayal of a sympathetic victim of Imperial politicians' plots that stole her family's mining corporation. I stuck with her story of the dutiful and abused Coruscant assistant and advocate (helping people find jobs and solve housing issues), and about halfway through the novel discovered just how ruthless and vindictive she turned out to be. A few pages had me mutterring to myself, "Oh damn!" Her position was understandable, given some of the manipulation she survived and endured, but, OMG do not get in this woman's way, or worse, on her shit list, cuz she will come back for you! It was refreshing reading a Star Wars story from the perspective of characters that operated within the framework of the Empire, climbing the social, political, and military ladders of a corrupt but functioning society.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has a believable protagonist, plausible bad guys and lots of twists and turns. It's rare for me to stay up l;ate to just finish a book, but I went to bed quite late last night because I had to find out what happened next.

One of the things I did this January before the unavoidable going nuts like every year, was reading a few books. First, was the first Witcher book: The Last Wish. Say what you will about Sapkowski, but the guy knows how to write. Fan fucking tastic, for any fan of The Witcher, this is gold. That was my spanish front cover, it changes obviously based on the editor. It reminds me of the first game. Then I've read another Tolkien book, some of the works done by his son after senior passed. Quite hefty, about the makings of the LOTR trilogy. This is for ultimate nerds really. Lastly, Noah from Sebastian Fitzek. It's a German author I quite enjoy, but this one particularly is interesting for some things it implies. Now, the book is fiction, but it gives accurate information about our current modern society and how the consume is actually killing the planet and underdeveloped countries. It tells you things like how much water you need to make a single burger and all the waste generated, how much you gotta destroy your own planet to get nice things like a new phone every year, and etc. You hear about that all the time, but when they give you numbers and comparisons, it's quite shocking. So basically, if you're miserable you don't contribute (as much) to the destruction of your own planet, yet it's a paradox since we're all trying to get a good life. Interesting read indeed, even though the book isn't about that actually. But the information is there.

I finished reading two historical novels: "The forbidden books workshop" by Olalla García and "1640" by Deana Barroqueiro. I didn`t found any english translations of the books so i`ll post the original covers.

Sebastian Fitzek is really popular here in Germany, I think one of the most popular writers. I had that book in my hand s a few times in the bookstore, but always did put it back. You can recommend it? maybe I'll give it a try.
I finished 'Reign of Terror', the source and adventurebook about the French Revolution for Call of Cthulhu. The adventure in there is really gruesome and very good. I hope, to gm it with my group soon.
And I'm still in the scecond Witcher book. I like it, athough I really don't care for Yennefer and teh story 'A shard of Ice' was therefore really hard to read. I like it, when Geralt and Dandelion are adventuring together, the tone is a bit lighter and it is often fun.
I'm contemplating to take a break and read a crime novel between the Witcher stories
