I'm planning to upgrade from the GTX 750 to the GTX 1070, and I literally don't know what I'm doing. I've never opened a computer case in my life. This one from Amazon seems to be good. What do you guys think? www.amazon.com/dp/B01IPVTHL8/?tag=georiot-pcg-20&ascsubtag=hawk-1418512933-20These are my computer specs: Model: ASUS Desktop PC K30AD_M31AD_M51AD_M32AD Series Processor: Intel Core i7-4790S CPU @ 3.20GHz RAM: 12.0 GB System Type: 64-bit Operating System So is this thing going to fit?

Two things to worry about (generally) when upgrading your GPU:
- The strength of your power supply
- The actual physical dimensions of the card and whether it will fit into your current rig
If your power supply is strong enough and the card will actually fit into your rig, it's almost as simple as pulling out your current GPU and putting in your new one. There's no screws or anything like that. Look up any video tutorial on Youtube and you should be good to go, but don't forget that you need to delete all of the files and shit associated with your current GPU (drivers and whatnot) before you put in your new one.

Airflow is another thing to worry about. Just barely fitting the card in is not good enough. As for drivers: use this tool to fully remove them before changing the card. You will have to unlatch the GPU before pulling it out, so be careful.

I don't know the power supply. Do I have to open the case for that? I really don't want to do that right now... I'm really paranoid about screwing something up. Way too much money is on the line.

Yeah. NVidia recommends for a GTX 1070 to have about 450-500 watts of continuous power. Meaning the power supply can deliver ~500W non-stop, while yours is 350W at peak. The card will work, but knowing what type of el cheapo power supplies most manufacturers use to bring the price of the whole system down I'd advise you to also change the power supply with quality Japanese capacitors (Seasonic, Corsair, Fractal Design) and at least a 80+ Bronze rating (Gold/Platinum would be perfect) The jump from GTX750 to GTX1070 is a big one. A weak power supply could fry the whole system when it dies. Meaning the motherboard, the CPU, the GPU - the whole works. Not many people pay enough attention to clean quality power and just shove whatever powerful components into the PC. And then they are surprised when everything ends up in a synthetic smell of burning PC parts. GTX 750 Thermal and Power Specs: 95C Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 55W Graphics Card Power (W) 300W Minimum System Power Requirement (W) GTX 1070 Thermal and Power Specs: 94 Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 150W Graphics Card Power (W) 500W Recommended System Power (W) 8-Pin Supplementary Power Connectors A GTX 1050 would work on your system without changing the power supply, but it's not nearly as powerful as a GTX 1070. Hope this helps

Also, how likely is it that the GTX 1070 will continue to drop in price over the next few months? The Black Friday/Weekend sales are going on right now, but would it perhaps be wiser to wait a bit longer?

The Black Friday/Weekend sales are going on right now, but would it perhaps be wiser to wait a bit longer? That's up to you, what do you want and how much you want it and when. There'll always be something better coming and things will keep getting cheaper. Depends completely on your budget, if you have something else you'd want to have money for recently, you could wait. Otherwise I'd just get the card if it suits you otherwise. I personally don't too much thought on graphics cards, if it is good enough upgrade to warrant the price tag I'll get it. It's for things like motherboards, power supplies and so that I put more thought into. In the end it doesn't really lock you into anything, if something better comes up and you use it the right way and keep it in good condition you can still get some money back from it and replace it without having to rebuild your whole setup.

Recommended wattage is a loose guide in a way since the amps on the 12V is what you would like to know under load.
Anyway the RMx line is built by Channel Well, and that one you posted is fine.

Seems to me that GPUs these days keep to fairly strict prices but there's a load of variety in the different GPUs you can get so that somewhat makes up for it. Again, i'm no expert and could very well be talking out of my ass.

The power supply you picked looks good, but if you're afraid to even open the case, I doubt you will be very comfortable to not only open the case, but also to remove the video card, remove the old power supply, put in the new one, attach and route appropriate cables and finally plug in the new card by yourself. I would suggest you let someone else with a bit of expertise do it for you or you should youtube a PC building guide and pay very close attention to it.

It's a pain in the ass especially if you know what you're doing. Because you have to do it perfectly. That's why I always spend a bit more on a good higher wattage PSU whenever I build a PC, so I won't have to worry about upgrading it later. Probably not the best advice, but it's what I do.

Well, I actually don't need these upgrades until Andromeda is released. The games I intend to play between now and then will be totally fine with my GTX 750. I'm not familiar with graphics card pricing trends, so I don't know if the GTX 1070 is expected to drop in price by, say, April.

The nVidia cards are selling like hotcakes, so I doubt their price will drop anytime soon. It will take a miracle from AMD or releasing the 1080Ti to see prices shift, and we don't know when this will happen exactly. Get the card now, you won't regret it. Waiting for months in hopes of a 60$ price drop is not worth the performance improvement and card longevity you will get.

Well then I would wait till the system requirements for Andromeda come out and a bit more gameplay videos to really judge if the game is even worth an upgrade. Andromeda could be an unoptimized peace of garbage (Dishonored 2 style) that even a 1070 would struggle to run at 60 FPS.
