Are the holiday sales usually as impressive as the Black Friday/Cyber Monday ones? Right now until the end of the year is pretty much the best time to buy computer stuff, especially with all the cashbacks and discounts available on many credit cards. If you are not in a hurry, you can also wait until AMD finally releases the Vega-based GPUs next year, and then the prices will drop again. In the end, these things depreciate as quickly as a half eaten hot dog lying on the side of the road. If you think it's a good deal, just get it, enjoy it, and don't worry too much. If you're in the US, use Slickdeals to check all the latest and the best deals on the internet. |

Eh, I gave in and bought the Asus GTX 1070 Turbo. I'm curious about why you didn't get the Asus GTX 1070 Dual that I listed. The Dual is actually an inch shorter than the Turbo. It also has a much better and quieter cooler for the same price. I'm still open to power supply suggestions. Many of them look basically the same and have similar prices... Dual GPUs never been interesting for me. I just need a huge upgrade after a few years (2020 for my GTX 760, but I'll likely assemble a new PC in 2018-19 and still will use my GTX 760 for another 2 years). I'll probably buy GTX 1360 or 1460 then if AMD cards aren't good enough in the future!
Buying 2 of the same video cards is stupid.

Almost everything in the realm of PC components is on an industry standard these days, so I wouldn't worry about running into proprietary connectors too much, assuming your PC was built in the last ten years or so. It's definitely intimidating at first, but trust me, once you're done you'll wonder why you got so worked up about it. That said, if you're still really concerned, think about asking a knowledgeable friend for help.
edit: also hijacking this thread since I'm in a similar boat to the OP, looking at upgrading to a 1070 at some point in the future, figured I'd ask if there's a consensus on a preferred flavor, or if it's just a case of picking a reputable brand and going nuts. Haven't been paying too much attention to the GPU market lately, but I know that both AMD is getting ready to announce their new cards, and the cheapo used 7950 I installed a few years ago is nearing the end of it's life.
