leaving only balanced grey left. That isn't balance. Waxing and waning, both sides in flux shifting across the ages. .__. That's the "balance" of the Force. The Light just has had a better run tbh

My issue with the Star Wars fandom seems to be that the most vocal part seems to be the haters of Disney's addition to the mythos. It's a combination of hugely nostalgic purists who want to see the Star Wars they knew growing up and not willing to give new ideas, locations, or lore a shot, and a bunch of Anti-SJW commenters who ruin...actually they ruin EVERYTHING!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I agree that Disney's Star Wars is not perfect. There were definitely a few ideas that didn't work out, and their initial attempts at growing their franchise, ie a movie released every year including spin-offs based on established legends and heroes, wasn't a good idea. That said, I'm still one of those fans willing to give Star Wars a shot, to find out more about a universe I love and be my own judge on what was a good idea, and what wasn't.
I am NOT going to be a fan who "boycotts" Star Wars because I want to see Disney fail. After all, if Disney fails Star Wars, then Star Wars fails forever. That's not a good thing for me.

It's a combination of hugely nostalgic purists who want to see the Star Wars they knew growing up and not willing to give new ideas, locations, or lore a shot, .... A repurposed planet as new Death Star, a faction pulled from someone's rear that is a caricature of the Empire, going on serial murder spree on established characters and a protagonist made from pure minichlorides - that is your idea of "new"? This travesty is like a satire to the older SW stuff - except it desperately tries to be serious. The only thing Disney has going is visuals. And that's pretty much it- bling instead of character development.
New Star Wars is like Captain Phasma - huge hype and buildup, but when you see it: *deflating balloon noise*
I'm not boycotting neither. Boycott means I'd actually want stuff, but I just can't be arsed to watch Disney's crap.

The best of the Disney Star Wars was Rogue One (IMO). It was different; a dark, gritty war film set to the backdrop of the Galactic Civil War. If Republic Commando is Seal Team Six then Rogue One is Force 10 from Navarone.
It wasn't perfect, to be sure, but it was perhaps one of the most original Star Wars films Disney has done. Over-reliance on CGI uncanny valley approximations of both Tarkin and Leia were immensely distracting, and I felt Forest Whitaker's performance was rather wasted, but that was a minor nitpick I had with the overall movie.
It's too bad this was the exception rather than the rule when it comes to Disney Wars. Had all their other films held up to the same caliber I don't think the series would be so bleak in the eyes of many fans.

I think for me, Star Wars is still Star Wars. Would I have liked a better alternative weapon than an alternate version of a Death Star? Definitely. Do I think both Phasma and Snoke were disappointing despite the build up? Of course. I'm not denying that Disney's Star Wars is not the best Star Wars.
My argument was more about how the general hatred towards it seems to tie mostly into pure nostalgia or Anti-SJW crap that's just annoying. There's a reason I stopped following this thread in the first place.

First off, the old EU was a niche thing back at a time when things like social media and concepts like SJW weren't a full thing yet. Plus, part of the whole nostalgic purist thing INCLUDES fans of the old EU. I also disagree with the notion of Disney crapping over the original to prop their ideas, because for the most part, Disney Lucasfilm are trying their best to keep the chronology and basic spirit of the original Star Wars, even if that meant reusing elements in the new trilogy. I can agree that the "send-offs" seemed forced and didn't work, but I still feel that there is still respect for the original in many of Disney Star Wars projects. Outside of the flawed character send-offs and directions for many of the original cast members (even though I personally prefer these directions as oppossed to the "expected" ones), I can't really think of a moment the Disney films completely ruined the original.

Sh*t. On the original trilogy and its characters. All so they can create their OWN Star Wars. So instead of the Empire, we have the First Order, which is just Cheap Knockoff Empire. Instead of giving us the original characters passing the torch to a new generation, we have them portrayed as utter failures in life dying pointlessly so the REAL heroes can save the galaxy. Instead of telling a simple story of good vs evil, we get "subvert your expectations, nothing actually means anything" bait-and-switch. Disney is creatively bankrupt.

I gave the prequel trilogy more than my fair share of criticism but i do give George Lucas credit for not unapologetically recycling plot elements from his OT despite Anakin's hero journey being an inversion of Luke's. Disney in a bout of creative bankruptcy rendered the OT's plot progression, and conclusion moot by recycling the galactic civil war (ANH) and produced an inferior product to the original despite all the advantages afforded to a multi-billion dollar corporation. Then there's TLJ. Starkiller Base perfectly sums up Disney's sequel trilogy.

I am expecting the "Rise of Skywalker" to fail and fail hard, I didn't even spend a dime on the Last Dumpster Fire(Watched it via bootleg stream lol) and I don't even think I will bother doing that with the conclusion of the shitty trilogy to be honest.
JJ's recreation of A New Hope was dreck and schlock but it wasn't the outright cancer that was Rian's contribution to the franchise to the point where I outright consider the franchise, insofar as the films anyway as dead.
._. Disney killed Star Wars surprise, surprise.

Okay, I haven't minded or even liked some of the things that the new canon has done, but this even I can say is completely stupid. The prequels showed how he was a master at politics, to the point where even when his plans failed they still benefited him.
