I've heard it mentioned a couple of times, something about the original plan of Dragon Age was to have X number of games/parts. And that we've done two and a half. Where does this comes from? The source? And how would it work?

I think one of the original Devs mentioned something about planning on having 5 games in the series but it may well have changed since then. David Gaider also said before leaving Bioware that DAI was only half the length it should have been in terms of story. So the other half is all there waiting to be told.
A good indication of the story that is missing can be gained from watching the original teaser trailer back in 2013. Despite saying that it contained actual game footage, very little of what appeared in that trailer has actually been seen in game. Plus of course there is the fact that we know that the Solas story is still not finished.

Mike Laidlaw mentioned in a Game Informer Interview a few years back having a five game plan. Then it was later said they'd make as many games as needed to tell the story.

I don't know, I get the feeling next DA game is gonna be the last one in this series. Just, the DAI and Tresspassers makes me feel to be set up that the end of series is coming.
There will still be spin offs, ofcourse. Just not the main series.

Thanks. I've found the Game Informer interview. Of course, plans change. And it seems mostly like an approximation. And yeah, they can do 20 games if they want to. But I think (barring a world-ending event), that five are the stories they were aiming to tell. And it seems it didn't even take Dragon Age 2 into account, by later interviews.
By this count, we still have 3 games, at least. I was just thinking, what would they be about?
Speculation: For what we know, the next one will be set in Tevinter. Main antagonist is Solas with probably the Tevinter - Qunari wars as a backdrop (like Inquisition was Corypheus with Mage-Templar War and Orlesian Civil War as backdrops).
After these threads are resolved (If they are, of course), I think everything points to Anderfels as the next place of interest. Rumors of a new blight, news stopped coming from here, Wardens being called back there. By Varric account, something was happening when Hawke got there. Romanced Blackwall stops sending messages from therTe. There is the clash of the Wardens with the Anderfels high society. Etc. Seems there is a lot going on for this place not to be one of the end goals.
This way we're missing one. The unresolved threads after those two milestones are mostly the Titans and the Mage Dwarves, I think. But I can't see a whole game set in the Deep Roads, obviously.
There is still a lot they can do with the setting. I would love a navigation era style game set in Rivain and Antiva, where you eventually go to some undiscovered new world. Or meet "Those from beyond the seas".
What do you guys think? What do you see these milestone games being about?

It really depends on how profitable the DA series is overall. Otherwise, I can see DA4 being the last main DA game ... though I guess it really depends if another big bad is released due to Solas actions.

The next game may or may not resolve the Solas story. A lot depends on whether it specifically is meant to drive the overall plot. One idea that has been bandied about is that whilst we may be able kill/redeem Solas in the next game, that won't actually prevent his plan from being realised to either drop the Veil altogether or at least weaken it so much that the imprisoned Evanuris escape (because Solas' plans never work out as he intended). Then DA5 will be the Grand Finale trying to take them down before they destroy the world.
In terms of the series being named after the current age of Thedas, it will have to come to an end eventually. We are currently nearly half way through the Dragon Age. At the end of that period, the new game would have to be called the ".... Age".
Also I seem to recall more than once that Flemeth hints that major changes are coming. She says as much to Hawke in DA2 and she calls the Inquisitor the Herald of Change in DAI (or words to that effect). Also, didn't the Divine name it the Dragon Age for the same reason? (Well great violence and upheaval which effectively are major changes) So again, it would seem that the Solas plot may be leading us into the crossover point between the current age of non mage human dominance and the new order whatever that may be.
May be DA5 will be called the "......Age" and be about the resistance fighting back against that new order.

My hope is that the Solas issue will be resolved in the next game, so that the next one can start with more of a fresh slate.
I'm guessing they'll keep making DA games for as long as they are profitable, but my prediction is 6-9.

A looooong time ago (pre-DA2) I remember an interview with Mike Laidlaw stating that they'll still be making Dragon Age 15 or 16 if he has it his way. I don't think there is an 'end' that has been predetermined. They will keep making games as long as it makes money.

I think 5 games would work well. DA:I has opened up some intriguing lore possibilities, but Thedas is not really large enough or complex enough to go beyond this number (unless they invent some new parts of the map that suddenly become accessible).
Game 4 can resolve the Solas arc and deal with the Tevinter/Qunari conflict.
Game 5 can conclude the series with the final Blight as the Old Gods Razikale and Lusacan both lead the darkspawn simultaneously. The game could end with the protagonist dealing not only with these twin Archdemons but also with the true power behind the Blights. This would be a good opportunity to resolve the conflict within the Grey Wardens, bring back the griffons, reintroduce some of the series' neglected warden characters (like Oghren, Velanna, Nathaniel and Sigrun) as leading commanders and bring back the Architect.

Like I've said in my post before, that still leaves the Titans and Mage Dwarves. And even with these threads resolved, we still haven't explored Nevarra, Antiva and Rivain. The obvious answer is, it will keep coming as long as it makes money. But even game developers get burnout, and like to close stories. David Gaider left for the Secret IP partially because he was burned out, for instance.

The AC IP is a good series,it's impressive how they manage to produce a game every year(more or less) with that kind of quality.Nah the sarcasm doesn't make sense to me I do think that AC is a good series i do think that it's graphic compartments is solid and better than DA,let's' compare the cities of the AC series with the ones of the DA series ok? DAI has none,DAO greatest city was just a marketplace and recycled alleys and that of DA2 wasn't great either.

I won't argue that Assassin's Creed doesn't have some great-looking cities, but that's the one thing AC does really well. It's not so strong on things like story or likeable protagonists. As for the graphics, well, I guess you never played Assassin's Creed: Unity. It had some ... issues.

As for the graphics, well, I guess you never played Assassin's Creed: Unity. It had some ... issues. I've played, and never encountered anything like this. Of course, I've played after it was patched. The main problem with that game was that they didn't want to miss the release date. Sure, the weak writing didn't help. But Assassin's Creed 2, Revelations and 4 do have good characters and likable stories. In my opinion, of course (and I haven't played Syndicate yet). Not that I think DA should go the annual rote. No way. I think Bioware can aim for releasing a title of one of their games each year, but should not feel obliged by it. Actually, I even think that is what they're going for, and Mass Effect was aimed at the end of 2016, but they didn't feel obliged (and I secretly hope to see Secret IP at the end of 2017. ;D)

According to themikefest newspaper, DA games will be developed for the next 30 years. At that point, the hero of Fereldon might make an appearance.

Shouldn't it be as long as this series is deemed profitable? I feel like Origins definitely had a plan for some kind of payoff at DA2/3, but things change over the years and none of these things can be set in stone.
