Voted cats - dogs are just too much work.
I have kids for work. That is enough work.

Owned both. Prefer dogs. Cats are assholes.

"Other". Explanation: I am not a huge fan of pets and I don't see myself having one anytime soon; but if I were to have one, I would have one that is naturally herbivore because of my own dietary restriction.

My family has always had both so I don't have big preference one way or another. Dogs need some more time and attention since you need to walk them daily, but I actually like this routine in my life so it's more of + than - to me. Both are lovable pets.

I once had to deal with 11+ stray cats shitting and pissing all over my yards(they wouldn't even bother to try to bury it to add further insult) due to the neighbor feeding them and lemme tell ya, dog shit smells like roses compared to cat shit and after that experience that taught me that cats are worse than rats, I'm team dog 100% 24/7/365.

Dogs are too much work for me. Too demanding. Cats just kinda take care of themselves but still give you love which is all I ask

My family unwillingly adopted an abused, co-dependent Welsh Corgi with behavioral problems that needed several medications in his food since the previous dumb ass owners fed him popcorn. He would constantly drop little "presents" all over the floor and prone to urinating when barking (and he barked ALL THE TIME because of the dumb ass previous owners did not properly train him). It was that or witness him struggling to drop several lb "cannonballs" for 10 or so minutes every 2-3 days without his meds. It was a horrific sight, trust me on this. He constantly farted and that was the most foul scent I have ever smelt; it was like death. He had to put down a couple of years ago because he eventually lost complete control over his bowls. RIP Fergus. I lived with several cats and they smelled like roses compared to Fergus. A dog's crap has much more potential to be foul smelling than a cats. Cats all the way.

I prefer dogs, but I like cats, too. I also like birds, rats, guinea pigs, horses, ferrets, swine, goats, sheep, cows, camels, and many other creatures.

Slight preference for cats. I like their unpredictability and complex relationship with humans, in that they seem to like us but also have their own interests and won't always listen when we try to get them to do something. It probably helped that I grew up with a genuinely good-natured and friendly cat who also had plenty of personality. While he liked to be around humans and was very "chatty" (he was part-Siamese), his agenda also included: meowing at cardinals, sitting in laundry baskets, opening cabinets, drinking from leaky water faucets, sitting near said faucets trying to swat the water drops, "hiding" by crawling part of the way under the bedspread with his tail sticking out, getting stuck in closets and garages, making phone calls by stepping on the memory redial buttons, and swatting a 150-pound dog on the nose.
He also had an interesting method of "passive resistance" when it came to going to the vet. He recognized the sound of someone getting the cat carrier from the garage, so he'd hide under the bed so we'd have to wheel it away from the wall and pick him up, at which point he'd just go completely "dead weight" as if trying to be as heavy as possible. Then he'd whine the whole way there and refuse to come *out* of the carrier in the vet's office. It was as if to say, "I'm too nice to scratch you, but I'm still going to be as annoying as I possibly can about this whole thing."

There was a little bit of a hoo haa in my country a while ago when someone suggested that all cats face mandatory neutering, so that given time the cat population in NZ would die off. This makes perfect sense, they are not native to the environment and do no end of damage to wildlife because our native birds are ground dwelling idiots. The reaction the idea got you would think the guy had suggested rounding up and forcing 4 year olds to watch as vets beat their beloved pets to death with a mallet.
