I'm half attempting one now but wondered what those people who say the base game only took them 20 hours actually did. Or didn't do, to accomplish that.

I think, you would to have cut out fetch quests like the shards, puzzles like the Astrariums, most of the side quest, not related to the main quest or companions and even left some maps out (Fallow Mire, Hissing Waste etc.) Plus you need really good orientation skills, because most of my time, I'm running around, looking for the quest spot and trying to climb mountains for short cuts (seldom works)

If you mean a real competitive speedrun, current World Record is 2 hours, 22 minutes, 41 seconds:
That's without any egregious skips, like what's done for Fallout 4 (WR 49:58, less than 1 hour!) It does use some glitches to get power and gear very quickly, though. I learned a lot watching these speedruns. I now get through Hinterlands very quickly, by following a path similar to the speedrun path.
If you mean just doing the main quest, certainly less than 20 hours, on Casual and skipping most cutscenes.
Main quest + a few favorite companions quests + some reasonable crafting, that's getting up in the 40-60 range.

I know I've done pt of even 15 hours or so (without Trespasser, because most of those were from the time I was trying to see all the major variations after my first pt and sometimes I didn't even recruit everyone nor did all loyalty quests), but now my short pts are a little longer than that... The last save of my last short pt says 32:41 hours, but still is very barebones, very focused on the main-mission, I know most people here enjoy long, completionist pt (or almost completionist) so I imagine this pt is going to sound super not appealing I went with something like this: - intro . hinterlands: stopping mages and templars and helping the refugees, focusing in the area between crossroads, winterwatch and the camp that opens the area where the dragon is. After this, recruting the horse master. Here I spend "a lot" of time, is one of my favourite ways to gain power, it feels something that fits my canon Inquisitor and her story and allows me to focus more on the main missions and be less distracted from IHW on. - vall royeaux: meeting the chantry people and recruting Sera and Vivienne - storm coast: recruting IB and cleaning house - back to hinterlands, to the area where you recruit blackwall and from there to redcliff - In Hushed Whispers - In Your Heart Shall Burn - From the Ashes - Exalted Plains: because I romance Solas, here's basically helping the Dalish and doing Solas quest - Here Lyes the Abyss: in Crestwood Still Waters, Caer Bronach and not much else; in the Western Approach, Still Ruins and Griffon Wing Keep, and again not much else; then the fade mission - in between HLTA and WEWH, as many companion quests as possible and the WT Power for a Price as soon as I have influence enough (at this point I think I usually have it), to be able to buy all the power I may still need - Before the Dawn: Emerald Graves, I completely ignore Fairbanks here, so is basically searching for the letters and enjoying the scenery ; Emprise du Lion (this usually take a while), Take Back the Lion, Suledin Keep and the red lyrium mines - Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts - the companions quest left (and whatever side mission you need to boost the approval of whatever companion still don't like you enough, I think I had to kill a dragon this time for IB , but I was careless with Blackwall and lost him) and the final mission of Before Dawn - What Pride Had Wrought - Cory - Trespasser - I dind't skip conversations, but I didn't investigate much either - Specialization: KE is rather easy to do, with any luck you get the the Wisp Essence from rifts and in IHW. This time I got it, but in really short pts I used to let it go - Crafting: in this pt I did a little of it, a few staves for me, Solas and Dorian, good armour for the three of us (though I rarely use mine), Cass and IB, and that's it. Varric wears the one he starts with, Bianca only used the upgrades I found and Cass and IB too used only the good weapons you get. I didn't bother with anyone else, because they barely got out of Skyhold - Rifts and camps, only those on my way, or almost, and always recruiting everyone I meet, it helps a lot until you get Farris - Very few WT missions (Sera's, the ones needed for other companions quests and little more) - No dragons except one for IB, the easiest one, but that's ok for me, because I like them a lot I don't know if I'm leaving something... I'm not very good with combat, surely someone that is can do all of this much faster. I played on nm, with Walk Slowly and Even Ground on (but not Take it Slow, because I wasn't really after a challenge, I wanted to gain levels fast and I was level 19 after Cory and 23 by the end). I also used the nug to get the staves and the armour I mentioned early in the game. Since Trespasser is harder and I didn't feel like suffering (as I sait, this pt was not to enjoy the challenge of combat), I remember I turned off the trials and lowered the difficulty to normal, to relax and enjoy If I had kept the level on nm and the trials on during Trespasser it would have been a few hours more, I imagine Well, writting this took me much longer than I thought so I hope it helps!! As I said, I don't expect many people around here to be interested in something like this but I enjoy a lot a pt like this once in a while, to re-live the epic moments when you don't have much time, and I love that you're totally focused on the big things, with almost no distractions and only the side-quest that makes the most sense for my canon Inquisitor (I coul still let go a few though), it feels more, I don't know, engaging and intense (I'm not sure these are the best words to describe it in english, but I already been writting too long )

I did an accidental speedrun on my last playthrough. I hadn't intended for it to be one, so I still did quite a few fetch quests, puzzles, etc. that weren't strictly necessary. And I killed a dragon (for Bull), which definitely wasn't necessary. But then I decided that I just wanted to plow through and get it over with. Basically: I didn't bother unlocking several areas, I only did the companion quests of a few characters, and I did all the main storyline quests AS SOON as I had enough power/was on the lower end of the recommended levels for that quest. I was playing on Casual, too. I finished in 40-something hours.

My recent run of base game was as follows (stealing format from above post): Total time: 63 Hours - Introduction portion. - Hinterlands: stopping mages and templars, helped refugees with ram meat/clothing, recruited horse master Dennett and later Blackwall. Did come back to kill the easiest dragon to get the IB scene. Never did check in on that Cult that had like two Agents in it. - Val Royeaux: Templar/Chantry Scene and recriuting Sera and Vivienne - Storm coast: Recruiting IB and the Blades of Hasserian. I returned to do Blackwall personal quest stuff. - In Hushed Whispers - Arriving at Skyhold - Fallow Mire in it's Entirety because I specialized in Knight Enchanter. Also had to randomly open Western Approach for this spec. - Exalted Plains: I helped all the Orlesians trapped by demons and managed to get the Favor of the Dalish. At this point, realized I want to make this a "speed" run. <- 35 hours in. I come back later before Winter Palace to get very specific robes. - I opened some new Areas to get Cass personal Quests to curry romance points. - Crestwood Still Waters, and Caer Bronach - Western Approach: grabbed the Keep, did absolutely nothing else that wasn't related to Erimund. - Adamant/HLTA! RAWR! I did it first to make sure I'd get to dance with Cass at the Winter Palace later. - Remaining MAIN personal quests of everyone BUT Viviene, who hated me before we even got to Skyhold. None of those collection of items/death missions. - Emerald Graves: Fairbanks and the Before the Dawn Letters. - Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts: WAY faster when you know where to go and what to skip, it wasn't actually that annoying this time. had 95+ Orlesian Favor. -- Emprise du Lion: Take Back the Lion, Suledin Keep and the red lyrium mines for sure so I can judge Mistress Pouldin. - Visiting Maddox at the Shrine of Dumat with Cullen. One more repeatable kiss scene with Cass. - Arbor Wilds War where my Dalish doesn't know who Mythal is >_< And smacks Morrigan away from the Well. - Battle for my pet Dragon. - A with one final round of my companions (minus Viv) I went off to battle Cory
- Talking: I didn't skip conversations, I rather i ntentionally sought them out, checking in with Scout Harding, Sutherland, and Krem for extra war table missions. Giselle and the Bartender must have thought we were close buds, because they were my main Newspaper regarding how I was affecting the world. I didn't "investigate" with characters I either knew already liked me (Solas, Iron Bull) or a lot or Advisors because there aren't any points there. As often as I checked in with people, I found it a bit too much with some companions; I hadn't even done the Winter Palace before I'd gotten all of Cullen, Jose's, and Solas's scenes (that weren't event linked) and thought the friendship development was too quick. Sera held out her cookie scene till the very last second; I approve. - Specialization: KE is rather easy to do, but I didn't know that the Wisp Essence only drops in 3 locations of Fallow Mire, and wasted near an hour killing wisps for no reason. - Crafting: I kept my LI, Cole, and Varric looking quite spiffy. I was frustrated at what was available for a male elf until I went out of my way to go get the Ancient Elven Keeper Robes. I refused to wear anything else, even though it was only 132 defense. Sera and Iron Bull got nice outfits for their killing of the Dragon. I gave Solas my cast offs, and didn't have the heart to let Dorian NOT look amazing, so he got one outfit as well. Regarding weapons, I did craft some for my main team, including Bianca Upgrades. Didn't craft a single rune. - I ignored Rifts as much as possible. Because they magically close over those two years to Trespasser anyway, and even skipping a lot, with half XP trial, I went to end game almost level 16. - War Table Missions: I used the computer clock trick to do ALL the WT missions. So there, Bioware. Did take about 1-2 hours doing all the clicking and researching quest chains for that. Also, auto finishing harvests of rashvine and elfroot and blood lotus for my regen potions and Bees. SO MANY BEES. - Judgements: I judged them all! mwuahahaha. - No dragons except one for IB and Sera because they love killing dragons. It kicked my butt, killing me four times, so I turned even ground and hard off. So sue me. - Shards/Collectibles: Not a single time did I look through an Astrarium or a Tranquil Skull. I inevitably collect some mosaic pieces and most of those stupid bottles because THE BOTTLES gets a search prompt. Wish the mosaic tiles got a search prompt. - Inventory: I sold all the Sigils and if the item wasn't blue or purple, I sold it too. Didn't switch Acessories often. Saved me a lot of time on Inventory Management. Oh wait. I think Blackwall final scene is bugged in my game. The one where he finished his Griffon Toy for the nonexistent children of Skyhold. I didn't even get it on my romance play through, I've only ever seen it on Youtube. I don't know if it's a timing issue or what.. I didn't stop the "Venatori to the West", or any DLCs. I could have shaved off Fairbanks and not checked in with Giselle, Harding, or Corb the Bartender. And if I didn't care so much about what my video game version of a Barbie Doll, may have shaved a lot of time off from Tinting/Crafting/Collecting that Keeper Robe I'm fond of. So yeah, I guess that's my version of a speed run that doesn't break the whole point of the game, @domi

Thank you. For me it's basically about two things:
1) Not doing uber-boring quests and grinding anything ever. If I want to grind, I will pick the latest Asian freebie MMO, not an SP game. I like my SP games to be like one crazy whirlwind adventure when I am not slowed down by anything boring, like killing the same spawn 20 times, and finking with gear. 2) I have a couple hours to play on an average day, and I would not want the game to stretch into 3+ months enterprise, so I end up not caring any longer as to why I am playing and just wanting to see the end of it, please, have mercy, just let it end! The same reason I don't like the modern writers' inability to write stand-alone books. Abercrombie is my hero by that particular reason. He knows that a good story is succinct and ends before the reader wants it to.

I totally get it. My one completionist play through had me head desking quite a lot at the poorly done fetch quests, of which the Hinterlands has, I dunno, literally 100. Usually investigating dead people. One involved finding a dead body with a letter, and delivering it to a mail box, there was no one alive to interact with on that "quest." Also, A MAIL BOX. I think it's the only one I've ever seen. Helping the Refugees isn't that great a quest, but then when Giselle the Chantry Sister gives me my update about how I'm doing in the world, she specifically mentions how I helped them, EVERY TIME. So, I'd feel bad not helping them, because then I'd have to hear her say how people are suffering from the war in the Hinterlands 10+ times. So, that's maybe 3 series of fetch quests I always do. The ram meat is easy, because you don't even have to seek them out specifically. While doing Horse Master Dennett stuff, the rams are in your way as you're traveling around. So, walk, kill, walk, kill, walk, kill it's done on your way to somewhere else. But, technically, you don't have to do it at all. ^u^ I game in huge chunks on my off days, so, what, 63 hours would translate to a month of 15 hour gaming weeks? Whereas I just did my 63 hours in less than 7 days of gaming, spread over 3 weeks of life. I love Dragon Age. You seem to be enjoying Origins and hopefully you'll enjoy DA2 (it's the shortest and tightest story of the 3! so it has that going for it.) I didn't want you to miss out because you're reading about the fans on the forum and their 150+ hour game PTs. We're core fans who do things like just ride around on a horse looking at stuff and killing what appears to be 200 baby hippos to get that one random rare drop. That adds a LOT of time but we're cool with that. You don't have to play that way.

Question inspired by @domi Yeah I'm kind of attempting a kind of semi one as wel with my Rachel. It's not so much because I neccessarily want to but I'm just thinking I wan to get her playthrough done so I can just focus on getting some ME trilogy runs done before MEA drops

So yeah, I guess that's my version of a speed run that doesn't break the whole point of the game, @domi There is a point in this game? I mean, besides Trespasser? If DAI was a movie I would make a cut where base game is all solas scenes then it ends with Trespasser, uncut, even bonus quests are great. I wouldn't expose the public to the Corypheus nonsense. Neither would I make them spend their time on such weak subplots of the main game. The humble savior god injusticed and misjudged is the only interesting plot in this game so a 2hours speedrun of DAI actually is the point of this game, to get to Trespasser as fast as you can and enjoy quality, as tiny as it is, in this colossus of sh*t.

I like crafting a world with my choices, and DAI has a lot of crafting options.

For DA it would be like a movie. The hero of the movie would waste no time on side quests. Would only do the main story, area quests, and would not bother with getting to know companions, except for the one you decide to romance; all dialogue skipped.

Artemis was the one I did speedily.
He even romanced a companion while i was at it.
He was at about level 16 when I could've defeated the game, but he was too weak to beat the Hinterlands Dragon, so he beat the game at level 17. Most of my characters beat the game at 18 and with high level armour, lol. Artemis was my special child.
