I played Magic Archer in almost all my DD/DA playthroughs and loved it. I used my magic skills primarily for levitate and it enabled me to reach chests I couldn't reach before. I started as an Archer in DD2, but changed to a Thief as I wasn't really doing well as an archer. I'm happy with the thief vocation but even with skull splitter I cant seem to reach those higher locations. I'm too uncoordinated I guess Do any of the additional vocations accessible later on help? Mages and sorcerers get levitate, and on thief, I think people are using "Concussive Step"/Leap as a pseudo double-jump

Made it to Bathal via the "backdoor". But first, the gang! The mage on the left is a psycho (kills most critters, not sure if that's a learned behavior or part of the forager spec). Archer is Vall's pawn and then little Archie as a Warrior. Oh and me doing a review of my pawns... Battahl looks awesome. Not much issues in there so far. Their Ogre has more HP and likes to jump around more, but didn't seem to be has grabby/jump on you as the Vermund version. Also, outside of harpies the first thing I came face to face with when I got there was a Drake...and he ran away after I cast silence on him (via a tome). Also, after that all 3 pawns fell to their death like idiots because we were fighting on a cliff. Luckily, I could reload right after the drake took off instead of trying to rush down before they dissipated. I got an escort quest while on the road and it wasn't to far away so I did it and I think I arrived at the Trickster maister place. So…I am starting to get that “need a new game” itch when staring at my various storefronts, opening all of them, before playing BG3. There is, of course, Horizon Forbidden West, but wondering about this… (And acknowledging that there are currently performance issues and mtx that are - from what I’ve read - irritating, but not invasive/exploitative) How are you finding this? I’ve not played the first one, but saw that that doesn’t matter. Story? World/exploration? Combat? Other content that may be relevant? Good, great, bad, indifferent? MTX aren't irritating, if you don't look at Steam DLC page you wouldn't even know they exist. I'm loving it. I consider it an upgrade on the first game gameplay and exploration wise. I haven't done enough of the story to say much about it despite over 30 hours into the game. I'll say again what I've been saying, Dragon's Dogma is like a D&D LARPing simulator. While it's an action game, it has party tactics and the concept of "adventuring day" has a chore mechanic. But it's not for everyone...

My criticisms of it pretty much all relate the first game having better mechanics and better vocation choices. If you didn’t play the first game I think you will enjoy it - probably more than me.

How are you finding this? I’ve not played the first one, but saw that that doesn’t matter. Story? World/exploration? Combat? Other content that may be relevant? Good, great, bad, indifferent? The mtx are irrelevant, unless you're opposed to them on principle. And Capcom has had worse available before, like with Monster Hunter Rise and the RE4 remake. Stability is also somewhat platform dependent. I haven't noticed significant frame drops on PS5. Story is acceptable for giving you an excuse to explore the world. They tried to flesh it out a bit more, although I like the first game's a bit more. The world is a decent size and can take awhile to get around. Plenty of content to distract you from what you set out to do in the first place. I actually like the lack of convenient fast travel since it encourages planning your route a little. Like taking an ox cart to a town with the expectation that you'll be attacked halfway, which stops the cart closer to the cave you were wanting to explore. Combat feels good and has plenty of variety. Every class is going to feel different, even when they're relatively similar, like with mage and sorcerer. One of the classes also removes any gear restrictions and allows you to equip multiple types of weapons, so there's plenty of ways to customize that to you're liking. The character creator is a big draw. There's a lot to customize with both of your characters, although most of the color options are restricted until you buy them in game for rift crystals. You've also got three armor slots, a mask and a cape slot to play with, on top of your weapons. Not as much as the previous game, but still plenty to work with to get a look you like. As for other things, this is a journey over destination type of game. You won't spend a lot of time grinding gear at the end. Explore the world, do the quests you get when you get them, and enjoy the ride.

I was expecting people resolving all the Goddess of Riddles's riddles to be higher than 2.4% on Steam (I am one of them now ). I now have an house in Bakbatthal. I really like the place. I wish it was easier to get there before the main story brings you there. I'm starting to like Archer quite a bit now that I got more skills and got the hang of it. Kinda like Warrior I guess, you just need to learn the vocation quirks. I also unlocked Trickster, but haven't tried it yet. Archibald got a Warrior gear upgrade (everyone knows that less skin protected = more protection right?) and this is the first oxcart I see destroyed...but I missed the destruction, They were just here standing in the middle of the road when I passed by. I ended up in a fight with 2 Cyclops, redwolves and knackers/hobgoblins and a phantom. Somehow managed to kill everything. There was three/bushes, it was dark and I wasn't seeing much. And my Arisen isn't even the one with the heroic pose...

I am planning to finish the riddle quests...I am still missing one of those in first location because I was doing other stuff Archer was interesting from what I tried of it, it was certainly nice to have a way to deal with harpies that's not "wait until they attack you or your pawn brings them down" Also hey, that's my pawn! I think I fought those specific two cyclopses literally just now. Except instead of wolves, griffin came to crash the party (then promptly left again after taking some hits to the face)

Batthal is evil for pawns. They fall to their death so often because of the all the cliffs/climbing. Please little pawns, pay attention to your master and learn to make small jumps that don't kill you... Also, I triggered a quest from a none-weapon/armor vendor by buying something from him. I have sold stuff to him before, so it seems the buying triggered the quest. If there are more of those out there at none-armor/weapon vendor I missed side quests... I killed two griffins today, pretty easy with explosive arrows. In fact, might be too easy with explosive arrows so I try not to abuse it. Also, killed another Wight and I got a robe out of it. I'll have to try mage/sorcerer at some point, almost done leveling Archer anyway.

For some reasons, the big monsters in Batthal all have more hairs. I wonder why. You don't really see it, but there is on an ogre dying on the cliff. That was a surprise Minotaur, he charge from a dark tunnel entrance into the party. I have now unlocked all the vocations...because I somehow made my way to where you get the last two. I really need to go back to Brant, poor guy has been waiting at that bar for like a month. Since its been like 50 days since I got that little intro flight in-game.

I don't think I have the death knell thing yet. Can it be forged and gifted that way? Would it still be useful? I haven't been further than checkpoint town. Still haven't run into the riddle lady. I've avoided all drakes (except the one that surprised us and killed us all, lol) because I'm terrified of my babies getting sick . My son keeps telling me I should just do it, but....I'm a chicken. I've only unlocked archer/thief/mystic spearhand for myself and fighter/warrior for Nick. I want to be magick archer because that was my favorite in DDDA but I haven't found it yet. Anyways, here is me and Nick hanging out The drake that keeps showing up everywhere I go And a pretty view

I gifted my copy to your pawn. I did "Tolled to Rest" already, my Oskar wasn't dead when I saw him. I want to be magick archer because that was my favorite in DDDA but I haven't found it yet. It is far away across the border checkpoint. I would suggest looking online where to go, it's a long trip...which I just did. I'm back in Vermund now thought. Playing around the advanced vocations.

So my problem with Oskar was that I was just near death and didn't notice quest popping up...he died to harpies, and I returned to the quest like 20 hours later And thank you, if possible I will return the book after I'm done with it

More adventuring, I have a single side quest left in my log, but I know where to find more. I just finished a quest with a binary ending option and Archie said his own master choose differently. Archie, darling, Karima is your master, not anyone else. She even showed up at the Goddess of riddles as her most beloved, don't you remember???? I also seems to have triggered a quest chain while I was in Batthal and got quest #2 on Vermund side and there was talk of more later. Interesting. It even has tie to the main plot. So looks like you can max maister affinity, I had the Warfarer one show up in front of my house in Backbatthal. He wants me to escort him to Vermund capital. That's a long trip. and since I didn't move the story forward, I need to go through the backdoor, so even longer trip. I'll probably just ferrystone him there. So after giving Vall's the tome, it was like I lost it or something and I could purchase a copy from the forger shop at the border town in the section with the "missed items". And Vall sent back the copy. Maybe I can start a renting business. Pretty vista! And the poor Griffin got speared by a very hot duospear.

I was playing around with magick archer today (well, at this point, yesterday), and the vocation feels like an cheat code Absolutely obliterating everything, from the smallest of enemies up to and including Drakes. Don't even need to abuse the meistr skill for that, but if you do, you can practically one shot a drake at the cost of most of your health. This time you don't even need augments to make it good, it's just ridiculous straight out of the box. And I got some pics.

I tried Magick Archer for a bit, but not my cup of tea (it wasn't in DDDA either). Then I tried Mage a bit and meh too, actually I like the spells but the default attack is so anemic lol. I still think Archer and Warrior were my favorite. Mystic Spearhand isn't bad and thief was fun too. So I went Warfarer with a bow, dual daggers and a duospear. Wearing whatever showed the highest stats for clothing since Warfarer can wear everything. Skull splitting a cyclops I'm find stuff in the early game part of the map I totally missed. Actually, I just realized there is a small section I never explored. I'm trying to go get a side quest up there I missed.

Back to the start of the game and I'm far away from unlocking NG+. I probably need to start to focus on the main storyline... I did the blocked cave from the intro and that was longer than I expected. I also did that backward, found the "exit". I must have missed 10 chests in the Northern area of the map too. So I guess doing all the leg work was a good idea.

So I was fully prepared to head for the end of the game, but then I found out there was a bit of Battahl I haven't discovered yet I have also managed to finish sphinx quests, it was interesting that she seemed relatively unphased by the unmaking arrow, huh Aaaand I've been using a mod that lets you have skill sets saved per weapon on Warfarer, and I found renewed appreciation for High Palladium since Warfarer doesn't get to enjoy Warrior's nutty 400 base knockdown resistance (to compare, fighter and warfarer have 100, and everyone else has 50). That's like, more than any gear bar the heaviest. There have also been some drake fights.

I have also managed to finish sphinx quests, it was interesting that she seemed relatively unphased by the unmaking arrow, huh I had the same problem. Probably have to initiate a conversation first before the attempt.
