I had my first meeting with the Headless Horseman (who is also horseless and it took 50 hours before I saw him) and then daybreak happened with only 1 pip left and he disappeared. Coward! Saying that, probably the coolest fight in the game. I also had another meeting with a drake who again ran off after taking one/two pips from his health bar. I guess my party DPS is too shit and they are on a timer or something. Working on Spellbound and the other grimoire quest. Lots of walking around. At least it doesn't send you to Batthal, lol. For the grimoire quest, I went to Melve again and things where sure different. And after that visit, I wonder why there are still oxcart to the city. Which reminds me I need to do a pit stop to Harve and there is a mistake on most guides which says that the quest I did can't happen before Brant send you there after a certain main quest. The poor guy is still waiting for me to show up at the bar after I turned in the monster culling quest and I never picked the other ones. I lost my party mage again, to the Brine, somehow. Not sure when he fell into the water. I'm a bit jealous of saurians who can swim without being brined. But I continued on because I'm still in the early game map and nothing is really hard, while healing items are plentiful. Then my other two pawns requested a Sorcerer to be added to the party. Ok, maybe I should try that. I might change Archie to one and see how it goes. Oh and I read on the loading screen tips that the 4 mercs group are False Arisen with fake pawns. I was wondering what was their purpose and why they were dressing like players dress their pawns.

Soooo I finished the entire game now. Took me 98 hours, and somehow I haven't encountered Dragonsplague thing even once. Other than that, I really enjoyed my time with the game overall, but it is one of those games where you really need to meet it where it's at, and it will take you on an adventure. I am probably not going to do NG+ immediately, or even for a while (I'm just not much of an NG+ person in general), but this is definitely a game I will be returning to from time to time, and one I will remember fondly Edit: One more pic

Hmm, just went into the rift hired a new pawn and I've just got the Dragonsplague pop up message. Oh well, I suppose it's time to dismiss my hires and give my pawn a Brine dunk.
After a more detailed inspection in the Rift the new pawn has red eyes, is holding it's head and grimacing. Fortunately I haven't left the Rift yet and have dismissed all hires. The overtly noticeable symptoms of head holding and grimacing don't manifest on the initial Rift summons but the red eyes do, the head holding etc. appear after hire in the Rift, so it's probably advisable to wait a moment in the Rift to check everything is normal with new hires before rushing out.

So Ulrika little beach scene is quite nice and well voice acted. Now I'm kinda sad it was probably the end of your interactions with her. Beside that Karima had to deal with some crazy magical teenager...but got two maister skills out of it. Next time, I'm working on the main quest. Promise. The party is right in from of the tavern Brant's hang out at. Hmm, just went into the rift hired a new pawn and I've just got the Dragonsplague pop up message. The Dragonplagues pass around the party pawn when you camp, once a pawn pass it to another they lose it. So just dismiss the red-eyed one and you are fine. I had the same thing happen to me as you and I just dismissed that pawn and my other two have shown zero signs of the dragonplague.

Only if they're late stage. My boy caught the plague tonight from a rando, who never held her head in pain or made any strange comments. The initial red eye phase is extremely hard to see unless you enter photo mode and dim the brightness. I caught on early because I live in photo mode. My pawn's eyes are bright white, which helped me notice the color was off. It wasn't bright red, his iris just turned slightly pinkish. (edit: also, it isn't constant, but a short pulse of color. He had his white eyes for most of that initial phase, it was actually tough to get a shot of when they were red.) Here's an example. Early stage plague And tanking the brightness gives you this: "Felt cute, might nuke a town later." He also said things like "I don't know why, but I feel exceptionally fine today." As long as you're not resting at inns every twenty minutes, you'll probably catch on before anything happens. He definitely did a lot of head holding and grimacing too. I must admit, I was curious. I didn't want to upload him to the rift as he was as I didn't want to infect people, but I also kiiinda wanted to see what happened when the plague hit. I thought to myself, hey, that starting location, Borderwatch Outpost, that has an inn. Yeah, so that's gone now. You have at least one safe inn rest, I think, as it took me two. Not totally sure, it might just progress over days passed. But the final stage, their eyes are constantly bright red, and it's hard not to notice.

Probably have to initiate a conversation first before the attempt. You have to complete the 10 riddles, then during the final conversation, there is a brief window while she prepares to fly away and you have to attack her enough times to initiate combat. From there you might have to do enough damage to make her glow purple before using it, but sources conflict and I wasn't able to confirm because it super-deletes itself instantly.

I just shot her after completing the riddles, but before talking to her again. I think she was made invulnerable during the conversation she initiated after that, so the arrow did nothing instead of killing her. Then she flew away before I could attack her again.

Yeah the dwarf got whacked over the head with a broadsword by the pawn hire, not even in combat just after I gave him the flowers.

And as "promised" I started to focus on the main storyline. I found a hidden vault with books and a new book keeper for the place. I also had Ulrika at my home and she wanted to be brought back to Havre for a "pleasant jaunt". It was raining from the moment she joined to a few second after she she "left the party". Now I decided to do some investigation and the think I thought it might break the main story didn't break anything, but after acquiring the Nameless Village quest, I got lots quest of updates since I already did all those steps. I need to go back there now thought.

I just realised I forgot to dismiss and reward the pawns I ended the game with, I should do that...although it would mean I would have to start NG+. Hmmm.
Edit: Oh, they don't appear when you reach the riftstone, huh. Hope they got some rift crystals at least

Summoned another pawn. This time it was impatient and abrupt "please dispense with the formalities" in an insolent tone, still in the Rift. It then proceeded to sit down on the floor in the Rift. Instant dismissal. This seems to be more common or else I'm more aware of it and being hyper vigilant. I'm glad I picked the Kindhearted inclination for my pawn, even though it might not be the optimal choice for some vocations it's easier to notice anything erratic or out of character.

In every thing I read about the two magic grimoire quests that require the same books nobody mentioned that Myrddin was Trysha's dad! I also went to the Nameless Village and gathered evidence (sorta) about the false Arisen. I was wondering who was a certain name that send me a gift at my house a while back. Turns out it was the thief-maister. The Inn beside the vocation guild in Vernworth has pretty high affinity too. By the time I'm done with the game, I'm going to have all the vendors/inn npcs in love with Karima it seems. Kinda creepy. Next story quest, infiltrate the castle to gather evidence against Disa, but that one requires going between certain hours at night and I'm early morning...in the Checkpoint town.

So on NG+ - the difficulty tweak mod feels practically essential, since I'm level 72, I had to drop small enemy damage taken to like 35% to stop one-shotting them... with an unenhanced flamberge. I haven't fought much of the bigger enemies, but 50% damage reduction on them and cyclops still fell over really quickly. I'm also experimenting with increased damage taken, currently sitting at +35% damage taken, but I haven't been hit by much other than goblins, so it might go up or down later. Other than that, even after 100 hours, I still find the quiet moments in the game really pretty. I also set my pawn to fighter for now, gotta get more augments for the girl. Since there is only two of us, I need her to be able to carry more stuff Playing with fire. I also noticed that deer also get that glowing eyes effect when you shine light on them in the dark that wolves also get. This might actually be one of my favourite little touches, because I'm not sure I've seen this in any other game Edit: also my pawn is really entertaining as a fighter. Had a thing happen where Pawn - "'Tis a chest, I shall have a look to see if there is aught inside." Me- Wait, where did you run off to? 3 seconds later*clunk* my pawn drops next to me, on her shield, from a large rock right behind me.

Well, I beat the dragon last night, so that's progress, I guess. The area leading up to him was... definitely something. Made lots of questions swirl about in my head that had been there since noticing an interesting thing on the world map. I won't say much, just that I spent far too much time looking around the Sacred Grounds, both grinning like an idiot and getting smacked directly in the heart. 10/10. So the dragon's choice of beloved was Klaus, which is indeed accurate to my character (she has a thing for guildmasters) but I only gave him one bunch of flowers about midway through the game. Meanwhile, most of the population of the Sacred Arbor, the maisters and Ulrika were all stalking me and camping outside my house. Glyndwyr or whatever his name was even popped up at the hot spring, and blocked my way into the Vernworth barberie. "Oh hey, what a coincidence, running into you here, a place you've been frequenting like four times a day. No, I'm not keeping an eye on your schedule. So, d'you want to go on a pleasant jaunt halfway across the map for no reason?" So I'm a little confused. Some people suggest that it might be the last person you talked to with any affinity, but I don't think that's accurate, even if it would make sense for my save. I know I'll see the actual numbers once I properly beat the game so maybe Klaus just really, really liked those flowers. Once this nasty windstorm passes, I'll go back to mucking about in the post game world, tripping over dullahans every ten steps and getting expensive armor drops from bosses that I just bought half an hour prior. Here's a few shots from my adventures as spoiler free as I can make them.

I know I built affinity just talking to NPCs (mostly vendors, lol). We even build affinity with our pawns (and can cause them to blush ), but they seems to have a much higher max affinity requirement than regular NPCs.

Attempt #1 I got Sara, blacksmith apprentice from Battahl. I did do her quest and upgraded with her most often, so okay, fair enough. Reload inn save which is right before going into the area, as an experiment, ferrystone to Ulrika, give her the affinity ring. Go back to the dragon, and yay, it's got her in its claws. So far so comprehensible. Then I continue playing and in the final credits, the scene that I assume contains your 'beloved' is...Menella?! I mean, it is entirely possible she was the last person I talked to, but wha. As a bonus, credits list your 'dearest allies' or something along those lines, and my #1 was Doireann from the elven questline. In short, I have no clue what's going on with the affinity.

So it's over. I finished it. Story-wise, much preferred the first game, because there's even less going on here. Lots of weird half-baked ideas that just disappear with no real resolution. There were a few 'oh wow' moments, won't deny that, but they were due to my obsession with DD1. I know Itsuno said it wasn't unfinished this time around, but... c'mon. Something's definitely wonky here. So, so much death by photography. Also cliffs. I was going to eternally wakestone the town I nuked, but by the time I remembered, everyone was back so I couldn't. I think everyone would agree that this game is much more about the journey than the destination. If you don't like the journey, you will get virtually nothing out of it. I think I'd have a hard time recommending it to people, to be honest. If I wasn't as attached to the characters I've been playing with for the last 12 years, I would have dropped this game as soon as the credits rolled. But because of these characters, I could play this forever and not get bored. Every session is a new adventure, even if we're trekking along the same paths we've walked for the past 100 hours. Now I have to start building up my wee baby alts. Or creating them. I've only made one so far, and he's apparently doing quite well in others' worlds. And by 'quite well' I mean tossing himself into rivers and throwing himself off cliffs. Oh, and in regards to affinity, my top three were Glyndwr, the warfarer maister, then Klaus at #3. So there is obviously something more at work than just affinity numbers. Glyndwr was in the final cutscene, which makes sense even though I tried to get him to take the hint so, so many times that I just gave him that bow because I had three spares. He's definitely the new Aelinore. We even build affinity with our pawns (and can cause them to blush ), but they seems to have a much higher max affinity requirement than regular NPCs. While I was a bit weirded out by the blushing (I view my arisen and pawn as parent and child), I was very glad I maxed out the affinity. There's a little change to an ending cutscene and it's worth it. And it's rather open, so you can interpret it however you like. So yeah, the game certainly isn't perfect but I never expected it to be. I'll probably be playing it for a while, despite what my initial thoughts were when first starting. I just wish it was better than the last one in more ways than just graphics. So many weird steps back in other areas.

On NG++ now and also started my alt account (which is my original account that was highjacked by a region lock). Game is still fun. Still going to ignore a lot of the story while I try to keep a cyclops alive long enough for it to become a bridge. Also, Briana has the plague and I want to see how long I can go without sleeping in a town.

Also, Briana has the plague and I want to see how long I can go without sleeping in a town. There are a few spots where there is a cyclops basically setup to become one. That's how I got mine, Cyclops was sleeping near a broken bridge and once he woke up after one love tap, he did the "fall over the gap" and I ran to the other side, got the achievement, whacked at his head with my big greatsword a few times...and when he fell he grabbed my ankle and off with him I went into the Brine!!! Luckily, I'm indigestible to the Brine or something.
