Probability and randomness have far more effect than we think. Our brains are programmed to see patterns, but they aren't always there. I vaguely remember something about split brain tests. People who have the right and left hemisphere of the brain separated and even if the results don't necessarily work for people with a "normal" brain, it's kind of funny to think about and wonder what is going on in our brains. For example one side of the brain via the right of left eye was showned some order on paper to get up and leave . So the person do it , but when they were asked they were sure they were leaving because they had dinner to cook , or their wife was waiting outside or whatever. It seems when in doubt it is possible part of our brain without us conciously knowing goes in full bullshit mode. Ah, yes. Confabulation. One of my favorite psychological phenomenon. Your brain wants reality to make sense and when it doesn't, it will just start straight up guessing at what the truth is and convince you that it's right.

I have always been fascinated by the process of sleep/dreaming - Studies suggest that people who play video games are more likely to have lucid dreams than non-gamers - Furthermore studies have shown that gaming also lowers the chance of having a negative dream. - 20% of people have at least one lucid dream every month. - Most people however have ‘accidental’ lucid dreams rather than lucid dreams that they deliberately tried to induce. - Lucid dreaming has been practiced for thousands of years. Records suggest that even the Ancient Egyptians may have practiced lucid dreaming. - Around half of all people have had at least one lucid dream in their life (that adds up to billions of people that have had a lucid dream before). Obviously is much more lucid dreaming than most people think! - The two most popular lucid dreaming activities are flying and lucid dreaming sex. - Lucid dreaming is a skill that anybody can learn just like anyone can learn to read or write or speak a foreign language (though lucid dreaming is much easier than all of those things!). - Lucid dreaming can be used to overcome problems and fears. It can even be used to rehearse speeches for anyone that’s afraid of speaking public. - People blind from birth have vivid dreams, and can see in these dreams - Recurring dreams are likely a sign from the sub-conscious mind that an issue, usually personal or social, needs to be addressed - Science is still not certain about the cause of dreams or yawning (Yawning is indeed contagious)

Here's an unrealistic reality: Donald Trump is the president of the United States. Jokes aside; the big bang theory doesn't actually explain the origin of the universe. It explains the process that happened shortly thereafter.

Jokes aside; the big bang theory doesn't actually explain the origin of the universe. It explains the process that happened shortly thereafter. It's really bizarre to think the whole universe used to be a tiny tiny spot , but yeah no one knows how that tiny thing full of matter and pressure came to be in the first place. I think some scientists say it came from an universe that might have collapse on itself . Anyway trying to think of what could be "outside" the universe and what happened before or whatever , is just plain weird. I'm not sure we're even equipped to understand whatever phenomenon we're part of . I've been told about a super rich dude who's funding research because he thinks we're part of a simulation , Matrix style. I'm not into that type of thing to be honest , I don't think it's going to be as simple as looking behind a curtain and there you go, all the answers you ever wanted ! But who knows.

- Most people however have ‘accidental’ lucid dreams rather than lucid dreams that they deliberately tried to induce. I definitely fall into this category, I tend to always be partially aware that I'm dreaming. Anyone else ever forgot to toggle "God Mode" on during one of those dreams? It's definitely an annoying feeling when you hit the ground or slam into a wall, because your brain decided to make gravity apply and keep objects solid, when you were trying to mess around with the dream physics.

I'm not into that type of thing to be honest , I don't think it's going to be as simple as looking behind a curtain and there you go, all the answers you ever wanted ! But who knows. Unless we find a way to travel faster than light, I'm afraid a lot of things about space and the universe are going to remain unknown to us. That said, the 'it came from an universe that might have collapse on itself" theory might also explain why some things simply don't have an end nor a beginning. If the collapse caused the expansion (and the expansion could cause a collapse) then it could go on infinitely, constantly reaching the same point. It's the same as if you would walk straight ahead and never stop, you would eventually circle the earth and come back where you started, without having to stop or go back. With that in mind you could also go back in time infinitely! Another point to break your head about; my high school philosohpy teacher once argued that humanity's intelligence/knowledge/understanding of everything is forever limited by the limitations of language. ... Or something. Whenever I try to turn on God Mode my dreams actively try to turn it off. My conscious and subconscious eventually end up fighting like two siblings over who gets to type in the console commands. But by the time my conscious side wins and I can do whatever I want and it all turns into one big happy, fun party.... I wake up.

Then the tree would still fall. We do not live in a Bethesda game, where the world on goes on when the PC is present. Oh it would fall, but would it make a sound when it does?... In order to answer the question you first must answer what is sound. Perhaps the definition has changed over the many, many moons since my schooling but here's my understanding. Sound is concussive waves traveling outward from an origin point. Therefore, when the tree fell, there would be sound whether anyone or anything heard it.

Alright then, no more political topics/posts from me! Historical stuff is fine. Or anything else that isn't likely to turn this into a clone of the politics thread.

Oh it would fall, but would it make a sound when it does?... Why wouldn't it? We have no evidence that things work differently when there are no human observers, and as I previously stated there would certainly be other forms of life to observe it. sound is the interaction of vibrations detected by the ear drum or a device specifically crafted to do so (microphone), so if there is nothing around to "hear" there can be no sound......
