Well, they want to entice you to sign up. Not wanting to pay for something but then complaining about the benefits people have that do pay is a little... i dunno... I mean, pay to win is a little iffy but this is not the case here. Sure, this isn't like 'pay to win', but it smacks a bit too much of ransom, IF getting the game is your only incentive for signing up, and you're planning to cancel once you get the game. There are other ways of enticing people to sign up; like short trial periods, etc. (and if the service is interesting enough, that should be all the motivation a buyer would need anyway). Audible, for instance, just gives out a free audiobook; sure, it can be abused, but it presumably works for them, since they've been doing this for a very long time now. I don't think Sony holds anything ransom, unless people sign up for Plus. So, although the product is ready by Date X, they're telling consumers: Unless you pay a little bit extra, we'll keep it from you -- for no other reason than that we want you to pay that little bit extra -- for 5 more days. People who pay that ransom aren't really getting a new service or a new product (a substantial 'benefit') for their money, which other, less scrupulous people want to get 'for free'; it's that they're tricked into paying for a 'trial' of Access which they didn't even ask for. I don't understand. On one side you think playing it 5 days earlier is not substantial enough (not to mention EA Access gives you other benefits), yet on the other hand you seem to be bothered not being able to play it earlier. It seems to me it "is" substantial to you. At worst EA is losing one buck on every sale but they are counting on some people keeping their subscription. Also, much more goes into determining release dates than the game being ready anyway. Release windows, financial quarters etc. Believe it or not, they are keeping games from you all the time, you just don't know it.

Great. Means I can't be around from the 16th to the 23rd because there's gonna be trolls and other people that think they can do whatever they like because the internet doesn't allow me to strangle them with their own intestines...
Don't mind me, I'll just go and vomit.

It's true that this means early game spoilers will be in the wild from the 16th. EA Access players may also have a few hours to blunt their noobiness when it comes to the multiplayer, though in the scheme of things, 10 hours is hardly relevant.
It also means that we'll have the SPOILERS section here, ready ahead of the 16th not the 21st.

Origin Access isn't a bad idea in theory, but it needs to have a larger selection. The idea seems to essentially be "Netflix, but for gaming" however while Netflix has thousands of movies and TV shows, Origin Access has exactly 61 games with a number of them being previous "on the house" free games. There's also things like Sims 3 starter park which is useless without the base game(they really couldn't just give us Sims 3 with the 4th having been out for a while now?).
Still, due to the 10% off the math results in me paying very slightly less to take a month of Origin Access and use that discount on ME:A and I sort of want to try the new Mirror's Edge(which is one of the games you get) but I don't really want to pay $20 for it.
So I'm tempted to go for it regardless of the 5 day early thing.

Demos are always good; but I wish this (at least a shorter version) was available to non-subscribers too. I played the hell out of the MP of the ME3 demo; the only MP game I've played with complete strangers, and enjoyed. Those who get the demo: Let us know if there's anything like the 'kid in the vent' this time around. I believe they are still doing a MEAMP Beta for Xbox One and PS4 prior to launch. EA has been liking the MP demos lately as well, with Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2, so I would be surprised if there wasn't a MP "tech test" before the game launches. They are doing a Tech Test (I signed up).. Also, yes, I am an EA Access subscriber so I'll be playing the trial for 10 hours. Most likely to play MP only though. Like ME3, the MP was fun and it took me a while to get into SP, especially when a week after release how many complained about the ending. Here's hoping I'll hear some good things from those who finished SP quickly. To sign up for the tech test go here: beacon.bioware.com/

This is pretty cool. Although I wouldn't have gotten Access just for this (okay, maybe - you do actually save a dollar if you cancel right away - but I'd forget to do it!), I did get it recently for a few older games in the vault I was thinking of buying, and a whole year's subscription was way cheaper than getting them all. 10 hours is a pretty good chunk of time - 5 hours in DAI didn't seem worth it since I'd spend a quarter of that just in the CC anyway. Even if the plot is gated to where I have time left over after I get there (doubtful - I like to take my time) I can jump back into the CC for a while and play with that. I don't mind starting over from the beginning if I end up with a character I like better. ... Also I just realized this means I'll be playing the game just 52 days from now!!!!

Its nice way to get around the horrific black out I shall have to do from the 21st for 2 days because I'm not in America Super pumped I got EA access though, I have friends who are umming and arring about getting it and I can give them a nice spoiler free review for mechanics and answer their specific questions unlike a general review could. That being said I will definitely be in the character creator for all ten hours XD

I'm excited for the early access trial. I will be using the Mass Effect one the same way I used my DAI one. Basically will create a few different characters.. maybe play the tutorial on one of them.. then multiplayer for the rest of the time. If I try to actually play the story then the 10 hours will be up super fast and then I will be miserable until 23rd

Here's hoping I'll hear some good things from those who finished SP quickly. To sign up for the tech test go here: beacon.bioware.com/Ugh, this is stupid. Instead of just having a beta or demo like they had with ME3, they'll separately have an MP closed beta that you might or might not get selected for, and the SP portion is locked to paying subscribers? Come on... I've gotten a few games, including ME3, because I could play a free demo and enjoyed it (both the MP and SP in that case). That kind of thing (also because it's released earlier than this early access thing) means you'll have enough people playing to get useful feedback for either a day 1 patch or subsequent one, or even for the base game if the demo is early. Other than being frustrating (especially since I'm still not too hyped about ME:A and a demo could entice me to want it), I think this is a dumb move for EA/Bioware since I think a demo would benefit both players and the company through generating interest and polishing the game.

Unfortunately I have no self control and I am going to get caught speeding on the way home from work just so I can play the game before all my friends. So I can rub it in their faces. Because I'm a good friend.

As a note, the service is $5/month. You get 10% off EA games purchases. The month of service will pay for itself if you buy the digital copy and even more so if you plan on any of the deluxe editions. That way everyone wins. The backlog of games has a few good items as well that are included in the price.

"take a 5 minute trip to Asia" to make Origin see that you're totally and legitimately in the region that unlocks a day before the rest of the world and aren't just tricking your internet connection into showing it as being in Asia for the purposes of unlocking ME:A early. Not that I would advocate for doing such things =P

My plan is:
1. Pre-order Andromeda and get a discount via pre-order discount pricing.
2. Pre-load the game when it becomes available.
3. Buy EA Access.
4. Play the the game on the 18th.
5. Play the game on the 19th.
6. Use a VPN to spoof my location to South Korea to continue playing on the 20th.
A three day head start for a total of $60--the price of the standard edition at retail--sounds like a good deal to me.

Well, they want to entice you to sign up. Not wanting to pay for something but then complaining about the benefits people have that do pay is a little... i dunno... I mean, pay to win is a little iffy but this is not the case here. I don't think pay-to-win is iffy at all. It's pretty clearly negative. Also, I have no qualms about the benefits of people paying more for a collector's edition that offers physical goodies. That's not the case here. This is blatantly charging customers more to play their game early. That is not okay to me. It's an industry trend that is getting more and more egregious by the day, but since they introduce little changes at a time, everyone just lets it slide. Like the boiling frog anecdote. I'm with you on this one. I find the access type service rather lame to begin with, but then like Origin itself they just have to exploit every tool they have to get you into the system. Any way to extract a few more greenbacks from all of us cattle. As weird as this will sound, I would prefer a straightforward "pay $5 to get in 5 days early" to the more insidious "join EA Access" pitch. EA: Worst company in America, multiple years running. Oh yeah.

Have they said whether the trial also grants access to the multiplayer? I haven't found anything that explicitly says that yet, and that's what I really want to know. The big reason I want it early is just to get in some MP on the weekend before it launches, because I won't have much time during the week. It looks like for a lot of games it does, but those are typically more MP focused games, so that's not a guarantee here.

So I could get it on March first for a month then cancel it, if I chose? Yes. And like it has been said, you would save 6 bucks since you get a 10% discount as a member. You still have to pay $5 to sign up for the service if you aren't already a member (as many people in here are suggesting), so your savings wind up being $1 in that scenario. Plus, there's the chance it will not retroactively apply to existing pre-orders. Not really worth it from a monetary perspective in my opinion.
