Always had a thing for spears for some reason, whenever i can get them in RPG's its a must have. Maybe its because the spear is such an overlooked underdog in RPG's, making them a must-have when they're available.

I went with the quarter staff, it's servicable and can be used as a walking stick. It can also keep would be attackers uncertain as to whether or not you're a threat.

Halberd. I think it would suit me in a combat situation in Medieval Europe. I get the range of the spear, the piercing and crushing power of the ax/war hammer all in one stately package that can double for anti cavalry duty. Good point on the comparison to a spear, however, you won't get the same speed and agility you can achieve with a regular spearhead. But I guess it might be worth it if your enemies wear armor. Well of course. It's not a poking weapon. It's a lunging weapon.

Since the setting is medieval Europe, gimme something that can do damage to a heavily armored knight.
Am I a knight on horseback or a man-at-arms? If the former I'd go with a morning star. If the latter, the pollaxe.

The Lucerne.
It's basically like a spear and a hammer had a baby.

I choose the one handed axe. I like that weapon in a medevil or modern setting. Its both a weapon, and a tool! I can get firewood, skin an animal (not sure I could do that in reality, but this is theory here), turn it on its side and use it as a hammer, and even if I loose the axe head in combat, I still have a club.

One handed warhammer. Shield optional.
Armor piercing, easily portable, not too large for close quarters.
(But damn, Lichtenauer style swordfighting!)

The halberd is a great weapon and choice, I like it a lot but its not without its downsides. Like any polearm, if the enemy gets past the head he can grab it or push it aside, or pin it to the ground and step on it to break the handle rendering it completely useless. Its relatively easy to disarm someone who is wielding a polearm. Next, the weapon is hard to operate in close quarters. I love the halberd and its my second favorite choice.

You might as well go for a spear, it has all the functionality of a staff, and also has a stabby part. Plus, important bit, you're not Force sensitive...

It's why you should take advantage of its long reach and swing and capitalize on attacking first and foremost. It's not a hide behind a shield and cry until the mace stops clanging off type weapon. It's you gut, crush or smash what's in front of you upwards of seven feet away. Because you have reach they cannot compete with.

Any weapon system is a compromise, being aware of its downsides is the only way to use it to its full potential. Polearms have has many upsides as downsides. Reach is a great thing to have on the battlefield, at close quarters however its severely hinders your combat abilities. It is a powerful cut and thruster great against armor, but its slower than a lot of weapons. Its a large powerful weapon, but the lack of a shield makes the wielder very vulnerable to ranged weapons. Thats the reason why armies outfitted their soldiers with several different kinds of weapons.

So you adapt to prevent it. Failing that carry a dirk to ram into a throat if they get past the head and blade. Practicality wins the day.

I'd like to change my answer to trebuchet please. 1. It's a trebuchet. 2. Medieval Europe? Surely there are walls in need of smashing.
