Hey folks, There's a little tidbit of info I wanted to share that twitter didn't seem like the right medium for, so I thought I'd give it to y'all here. By default, most guns in the game (the Milky Way ones, at least) work via disposable thermal clips, like in ME2 and 3. This is the "default user experience" for most guns in MEA. However! Since we know some of you prefer the old-school approach, we have something called the Vintage Heat Sink. This is a piece of ME1-era tech that you can use when crafting a weapon to make it work more like the guns in ME1 did, with endless ammo but an overheat mechanic, rather than using disposable thermal clips as "ammo." So if you want your Avenger or Carnifex (or whatever) to behave ME1-style, that's entirely possible. Anyway, I thought some of you might appreciate that. *smokebomb*

Even though I think the lore is flexible enough for both gun variants to actually be the same piece of technology, this is a nice middle ground.

Thanks for the info.
Now prepare for the massive effect of your post on BSNuf.
Talk about overheating ...
I should go.

As for me I think all of my Ryders will at least rock one weapon with a vintage heat sink as at least an end of the road back up should all else fail. So I do appreciate the flexibility.

I wonder if I can recreate my ME1 guns that never overheated, allowing literally infinite shots without stopping.

I wonder if I can recreate my ME1 guns that never overheated, allowing literally infinite shots without stopping. My gf was so shocked when I was running through Feros and just moving down Creepers as they came up to me. Still, though, I wonder how they will do it with the ME 1 experienc,e or the ME 3 experience. The ME 1 experience made it so your weapons were, under certain circumstances, basically firing plastic bullets. The enemies health would not go down no matter how much you shot them. But in the ME 3 experience the Lancer pretty much tore through all the things on Insanity (from what I remember).

That was the case with ME1... until you got the right mods on the right weapon and then you could hold fire for 30+ seconds with absolutely no recoil and destroy anything. The ME3 Lancer was fantastic though, it tore through things but punished you a fair amount for holding down fire too long. I'd hope and expect for Vintage Heat Sinks to work in that way on Andromeda too, which would be fantastic.

This is great news! Now I wonder how this interacts with the special ammo mechanic, which is said to affect your next three magazines (or clips). Will it work for as many rounds as three magazines would contain?

Will it work for as many rounds as three magazines would contain? If a gun has, say, 30 shots before it overheats and you have modded ammo for 5 "clips", then things shouldn't change. The only difference is that you won't have a reload animation. I'd assume that however the ammo mods work, it's Cryo ammo for X amount of total shots. So, if it's for five clips and you have a shotgun, it'd be for 25 shots for example.

That deep throaty 'tatatata' My thrid favorite weapon sound from the trilogy.

yeah that's an interesting bi tof news thanks for this. Might come in handy if I struggle to make the powers work right due to the no pause to aim so that's good. It's one of the reasons why I like the prothean rifle you get with Javik in ME3 it dosen't run out of ammo.

I say weapons with a heat sink system are better to a place where there is next to none supply lines for thermal clips, like on a far away exploration mission to another galaxy. ps: Wouldn't be usefull to pin this thread to avoid it from going to the second page? To avoid people not knowing about this.

So, let's say that I craft a Mattock with some "full auto" mod and said vintage heat-sink, and basically get an infinite ammo Harrier?
Oh God, this cheese is sooooooooo delicious!

So, reaching and projecting here maybe, but with this whole thing going on, I wonder if they are gearing up to reveal more info on the crafting system soon, like a video or something...maybe?

This is why I'm hoping that MP test happens sooner rather than later, and has a decent selection of weapons/mods available. No matter how good Bioware's QA team is, the best way to see what needs to be fixed is to release a public demo, because there will be hundreds of people doing things that nobody over at Bioware even thought of.

I like it. Always thought it made more sense than enemies happening to drop the ammo/thermal clips I need. It'll make even more sense in Andromeda since the alien enemies shouldn't be using the same sort of thermal clip system.
